I'm now back in the US, but I shopped here for my Dadwhile visiting London. My Dad regularly wears suits to work and likes to wear bow ties with his suits. While visiting London, I wanted to get him a really, really nice bow tie as a souvenir. You would think this is not hard to do, but it was much harder than I thought it would be. Finally towards the end of my trip I walked into a store off Sloane Square which obviously sold men's clothes. I was directed upstairs and after describing what I wanted, the manager said I should go to Turnbull & Asser on Jermyn Street, where he used to work, and they would have what I wanted.
I received great service. As I walked into the store, I realized I was terribly underdressed (tshirt, sweater, yoga pants - I was a tourist, but seriously underdressed). I was greeted by a sales clerk who didn't react at all about my clothes, which relaxed me, and she directed me to the bow ties. She explained the pricing and the materials and left me alone to sort through them all to find the exact right pattern/material (great, I don't like hovering). I was left alone for about 15 minutes while I looked at every tie (about 30 or 40)
My Dad is thrilled with the tie and has since worn it many times. He usually gets complimented on it. It's the most I've ever paid for this particular type of item, but I think it is the best you could find. The bow tie (on sale) was I think 45 pounds, about $60-$70 when I purchased it, but he loves it and its mostly the only one he wears now.
