"A Restaurant, Smørrebrød Shop and Snaps Bar These guys take a lot of pride in the food they prepare. Things are made from scratch daily, and they focus on sourcing high-quality ingredients based on taste and what's in season. Beyond just smørrebrød and the usual Danish lunch menu, Told and Snaps is a fully functional restaurant. They also have an assortment of traditional snaps, both purchased and homemade variations. As this is a traditional Danish lunch restaurant, it's not typically open for dinner."

Great place to try some traditional Danish dishes. The interior was very charming. The dining experience was enhanced by the lovely staff. Loved having lunch here and would definitely come back. Recommended 👍🏼

This is a great little gem with outstanding food and excellent service. I tried the traditional liver dish, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor—definitely a rare find these days. For dessert, I had the apple crisp, and it did not disappoint! It was warm, comforting, and just the right amount of sweetness. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and showcased thoughtful preparation and care. If you're looking for something unique that you don't come across every day, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend it!

Very elegant restaurant where you can taste the famous typical Swedish tarts. Price a little above the norm but you certainly pay for the location too. Good food and kind and polite waitresses.

Google
Perfect for authentic danish cuisine and homemade snaps. The staff are lovely and gave us great recommendations. The curried herring was a standout!

You gotta go to this place! Very traditional and classic cozy old world charm atmosphere. We loved it. Especially when our amazing waitress suggested some special Schnapps to have with each sandwich we had. The horseradish one was amazing as was the lemon. And when she poured it at the table it formed a perfect meniscus on the top of the glass! One of our best meals.

We loved Told & Snaps. We had fantastic herring with shots of homemade snaps—one with dill and the other with lemon and thyme. And we very much enjoyed the attentive service. Definitely an authentic spot to visit in Nyhavn, rather than ending up in some of the tourist traps in the area.

Yelp
This is a place that means somethig to us personally, so we go here each visit when we can It is one of my most favourite places...you have to book. Sil, roast beef, rodspatte, ablejage, Sancerre, Cote du Rhone, snaps x 2. Kr 1,074 And it was our favourite waiter, which made the day. Full as usual Just don't fall down - or up - the steps! Probably more dangerius in departure We won't be going there next week as we are going to try a place we went to in the summer to see what its winter Christmas menu is like - it has a lot to live up to compared to here! You will find out on due course

Yelp
What a neat experience! The pickled herring was so rich and delicious. I thought I would need to order multiple smorbrod but actually one was plenty. There were two herring filets on the one toast and combined with the egg I was a happy camper. I also tried one with a stinky cheese. It was enough that the server questioned me and asked me if I, obviously US American, was really ready for stinky. I said yes and was not disappointed. It was creamy on the front and then the aftertaste was definitely stinky. But not bad. The only thing that was rough for me was the snaps. The original one is like a whisky to me. Or at least it burns like one. So now I know, I'm not a snaps girl.

Yelp
If you're anything like me, then just one visit to Told og Snaps will instantly put it at the top of your list of favorite restaurants in Copenhagen.  While all aspects of the dining experience here are exceptional, the food stands head and shoulders above all elsel - everything is house-made from fresh, high-quality ingredients and it all tastes wonderful! Tip: To complement the delicious food, there's a broad cross-section of both house-made aquavits and excellent Danish brands to choose from.   Everything I've tried here thus far has been wonderful, but my favorite to date is the Jacob's Snapsemad.  This dish is made with marinated Baltic herring, fresh potatoes, and fried bacon; its served on a bed of house-made mayonnaise - my mouth waters just writing about it :-) I'm leaving this restaurant in my Yelp bookmarks to ensure that I have no trouble finding it the next time I'm in Copenhagen!

Yelp
A very charming restaurant where we wanted to try the traditional danish open sandwich experience. We didn't have a reservation but the staff were super kind and got us in to a restaurant that was super busy. It was a very cozy place where we got to have the full Smorgasbord meal. The Jacob was a great mix of herring, potatoes, bacon with remoulade on top of delicious rye bread. The chicken liver pate was very good. The fish with remoulade with fried bread was a hit!

Yelp
Honestly not impressed. Looking for a smørrebrød place to have a traditional meal with friends and found this one: We had literally 3 small smørrebrød(each for 88kr) and 3 snaps and the total bill was nearly 600kr. I would not come back and honestly would not recommend it to people. Even though the taste is ok, is unacceptable to pay this much for such simple and easy food.

Yelp
Had a fantastic late lunch here. We tried 6 different smorrebord here and they were all great. Especially enjoyed the basic herring (#1) and the liver pate (#24). Friendly staff and warm surroundings made it a very enjoyable break from our touring. Highly recommend if you are looking for the traditional Danish sandwiches served elegantly.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful! Our lunch met all of our expectations and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed our homemade schnapps and the herring was excellent. We will be back!

Yelp
I'm a woman that's hard to pleace. I loved the snaps, but wasn't really into the open sandwiches (despite growing up eating them). The waiter tried to convince us we need 2-3 each and one was more than enough for us. I mean I know they think Americans eat a lot, but we don't eat that much.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Copenhagen for the day on a cruise and we're recommended to go here by a local. They serve traditional open faced sandwiches. The kitchen closes at 3pm and we just made it. They were more than glad to serve us and the food was great. I would definitely recommend getting a coffee after just so you can sample the fresh daily made coconut macaroons.

Yelp
hand-shelled shrimps are really good! But the seat is narrowed and the leading lady is not really friendly.

Yelp
Visiting family and they recommended this place for traditional open face sandwiches. We were not disappointed. We tried the steak tartare, shrimp sandwich and liver pate sandwiches all were very delicious. We split 3 sandwiches between 2 of us and this was more than enough, we felt 2 sandwiches each would have been too filling. Also tried the schnapps recommended by the server and it nicely complimented the sandwiches. Prices were a little high (us$90 for 2 of us for lunch with a couple schnapps, and one beer/wine each) but this is expected being in Copenhagen. Overall highly recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
came here to try some touristy traditional Danish food. they have several types of open faced sandwiches. we tried two fish and one pot pie. everything was good!! especially yummy on a cold, rainy day.

Yelp
This place has a great reputation for Danish open sandwiches, so I was delighted to be invited there. My hostess insisted I order two, but it was quite a struggle to eat everything. By this time, the herrings were starting to pall, as you get offered them absolutely everywhere, so I started with the Greenland shrimps, which were delicious and moved on to a sandwich that was a mixture of mature cheese and brandy. Wonderful taste, but far too rich to finish. Good welcome and friendly service, but after a while it got worryingly slow so rather a nail-biting dash to the airport afterwards. I'd definitely recommend this place, though. It's very authentic and clearly the locals all love it.

Yelp
Super place! I was just in Copenhagen for a short time on a layover and wanted a beautiful local traditional meal. This didn't disappoint! Pickled herring with apple and horseradish. So wonderful! I truly enjoyed it.
