This lively English pub redefines comfort with its authentic Indian dishes, perfectly blending flavors for a unique and unforgettable dining experience.
"The Tamil Crown, from the same people behind The Tamil Prince, is down the kind of leafy road in Angel that would get Richard Curtis going. It’s an excellent neighbourhood pub and Indian restaurant, pulling a great pint of Guinness downstairs and serving heaving platters of button-loosening Sunday roasts in the polished, upstairs dining room. Perfectly tender lamb shank or moist chicken with charred skin are the kind of plates you can eat in comfortable silence. Amber, deep-fried cauliflower, jade-green beans cooked in creamy coconut, and shimmering gravy surround the main event. " - jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley
"The Tamil Crown is on the sort of leafy street in Angel that gets Richard Curtis going. And if that doesn’t do it for you, the food at this polished, wood-clad pub-restaurant will make you wish you were a local. Like its sister spot, The Tamil Prince, there are crispy-edged bhajis and curries with meat more tender than a John Legend lyric—looking at you, chettinad lamb curry. The Tamil Crown does Sunday roasts too, which is our favourite thing to get here. These plates come heaving with spiced cauliflower and crispy-skin chicken, plus flaky roti which is essential for mopping up leftover gravy. "There is no meal more traditional than the Sunday roast, so when somewhere like The Tamil Crown starts playing around with it so deliciously, you should pay extra special attention. This low-key neighbourhood Indian restaurant in Angel makes flavour-packed, masala-roasted meats that come with gravy, roti, and roast potatoes. A whole chicken or tender lamb shank should be priority, but there’s a vegetarian sambar, potato, and peas masala option as well." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"The Tamil Crown is an excellent neighbourhood pub in Angel that also serves some of the best Indian food in London, and therefore it isn’t the easiest place to get a table. Unless of course, you beat the dinner crowd and head there at 5pm. Pros of coming at 5pm include: being able to see the aubergine curry that’s worth crossing London for (in the evening the lighting is non-existent), getting to sit in the cosy upstairs room, and being tucked in bed by 8pm. "Refined Indian dining in a pub setting, a follow-up to The Tamil Prince."
