The Rio Cafe

The Rio has recently come under new management, and the improvements to the menu have been immediate. The recipes for the burgers have been changed, and they are good! We had the Rio Burger, It was a good size, and tasted fantastic. It looked and tasted like a top-notch home-made burger. The chips were excellent too. They have some fantastic milkshakes as well. My daughter loved the Kinder Milkshake. More improvements to the menu are in the pipeline. I am looking forward to trying the new menu out. And you can take your dog in!

A well-loved feature in the west end of Glasgow. The Rio has a relaxed slightly vintage diner atmosphere and a decent menu that includes good options for vegetarians and vegans. Their breakfasts are particularly good! The many live events that they host are also worth investigating.

Terrible service. Walked in, kindly asked if we order at the till and the waitress advised us to take a seat. Sat down and waited almost 10mins. Meanwhile a group of three women came in long after us and they were served immediately. Doesn't deserve our business and will NOT be coming back.

The pub quiz on a Tuesday is great fun, different and doesn't drag on. Well worth going out on a school night. Oh and £5 burgers while you're there. Value.

I come here evey week for one reason or another. Great atmosphere with lovely people. Decent for food & drink & always has good music on too.

Nice place but you do have a wait for food so don't go if your in a rush to see a band. They have a quiz night once a week & other entertainment

The place smells, draft beer was awful (flat and tasteless) and food was really cheap, low quality and greasy. One of those places you just know you'll never walk in again.

thoroughly pleasant. whether it's for a well stacked tower of black pudding and poached eggs or a few well placed pints of beer with jazz, this place is pretty much spot on

Food was ok. Service was ok. Ambience mall setting. Food was nothing special and pricey. We were expecting a much better experience.

Well, what to say about the new Rio? It used to be one of my favourite hangouts for morning coffee and a read of the papers, but I'd avoided it since it changed hands from some sense of misplaced loyalty or whatever. However, my misgivings were unfounded. It's a lot smarter looking, but essentially it still has the same 'feel' as the old place, but the menu is much better. They still do the same good brunches though, and on this visit I had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg, which used to be one of my favourites. It still is, even though the prices are now much more in line with Delizique up the road - perhaps not surprising, as it is two ex-waiters from there who took this place over. The evening menu is very good, although a bit lacking on the veggie options apart from a curry. As you might expect from the name, there are a couple of duck dishes on offer as well as some fishy stuff. I think they are doing wonders with the menu, given how small the kitchen area is. Although it's still a good place to hang out during the day, the evening focus is now more on the dining front instead of the pub atmosphere that used to prevail. It's like a more upmarket Rio, really - and that's not a bad thing.

Dismissive and inattentive service. Once arriving we were told to wait and they didn't know how long it would be. For the next 45 minutes we were ignored by staff after promising an update on when we would be seated. Diners were paying their bills then continuing to sit at their tables for a further 20 minutes. Once finally seated we voiced our concerns over level of service so far and were met with a very cold attitude from staff saying it's got nothing to do with them. My concerns have nothing to do with waiting, as that is understandable, but rather the rude service. Particularly in response to when we complained. We left without ordering

We went for brunch in Partick Duck Club recently, having usually favoured Cafezique up the road for breakfast/brunch outings - we left very impressed and probably favouring it over Cafezique! The coffee and food were both fantastic - having scrambled eggs and toast, and a few extras. The service was also excellent, with the waitress always making sure we weren't waiting for anything without being overbearing. The price is also probably a tad cheaper than Cafezique, with better service! We will definitely be back!
