"The Peak A view of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak, or simply "the peak." It's a must to go here to see the city skyline and the harbour. There are shops, restaurants, and a Madame Tussaud's in the peak galleria. The best way to reach it is by the peak tram, but the bus ride to and from it is an experience in itself as well. The Peak Lookout restaurant — formerly the Old Peak Cafe — is located in a Grade II historic single-storey building. The site first housed a workshop and shelter for British engineers during construction of the Peak Tram in 1888. From 1902 onwards it provided a shelter for sedan chairs, before being converted in 1947 into an open-air garden cafe. The pitched-roof single-storey building features the architectural style of an English country cottage from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, with stone walls, arched windows and a prominent stone chimney stack. Located at 121 Peak Road, The Peak.

Good views from the restaurant. Food is okay, it came really quick - under 5 minutes. We had some Indian food - didn’t seem prepared there, esp chicken vindaloo. The Chilean sea bass and garlic naan was good. Drinks were decent. Our server was friendly.

Stopped by for a snack and ordered their calamari and tiramisu. Views and atmosphere were definitely better than the food but worth a visit if you’re looking to take a little break!

The Peak Lookout is a Hong Kong institution, but unfortunately, it gradually became rundown over the years, then closed during Covid years. So it was a pleasant surprise to see it had reopened and have been renovated. The outdoor patio had a big makeover, with new decking, much better quality tables and chairs, and colourful plants. It was very pleasant and relaxing to dine there surrounded by all the greenery. The menu remained substantially unchanged. All our favourites were still there, and prices were reasonable for the location. Portion sizes a little smaller than from memory. Service was efficient and friendly. There were even a few smiling young waitresses, so rare in Hong Kong. It is a must go restaurant for visitors to Hong Kong. Update December 2024 We revisited almost exactly a year later and ordered exactly the same dishes. Sadly, the quality of food had drastically gone down. Change in management ? Cook ? Cost saving ? The rice in Hainan chicken was clearly the leftover from the previous day. Even worse, the tandoori chicken was hard and dry, probably precooked many days earlier in bulk, slapped on with some fresh sauce, and grilled before servicing. It's not a place we will ever go back for the food, but maybe just a drink for the environment.

The food is decent but slightly overpriced. The venue is quite crowded, and our table is very small, making it difficult to fit a side dish alongside our main dishes, let alone additional drinks or dessert.

We love our experience at this restaurant, the view is beautiful. The food was delicious and the staffs are helpful and accommodating esp the server Ema Flores, she’s amazing. She went above and beyond in giving her great service. There’s 14 of us for lunch at The Peak Lookout and she was patient with us. She took our orders and repeated them back to us, she gave us great suggestions for the food and we all enjoyed and got the orders right. Thank you again for an amazing experience. We ordered the buttered chicken, Naan bread, Hainan chicken rice, and drinks were delicious. Some in our group ordered the Thai rice, ribs, spaghetti, etc, they loved it too. We ordered for our toddler the mini burger, he didn’t like it but he loves the fries and naan bread (lol).

We were here for a private event - a wedding. Weather wasn’t that great, temperatures dropped to 9 deg and it was cloudy. Wish that the restaurant could maintain their heaters. Some of them were not working so well and it was kinda cold to be seated outside (no choice). In terms of food, it was great. A wide spread of international and asian dishes, food replenished regularly. Drinks also topped up quite fast. Other than the limited alcohol items as part of the package, other premium drinks were chargeable. Overall we had a good time, the wedding set up and mic system worked perfectly.

It was quite busy at lunch time on weekends. The staff was helpful. food was ok not so special but with the view it's worth a try.

Yelp
Lots of places to take pictures. They have a tram you can take for around $12USD that takes about 10 minutes and shows VERY good views. We got there around 9PM so there was no line for it but I can imagine there is earlier in the evening. There's a shopping mall there too but it was closed when I went so I can't comment on that. It does get a bit crowded but everyone takes pics and let's you take your turn pretty fast. This is a must place to visit if you go to Hong Kong. I highly recommend to go at night so you can see all the buildings lit up. I'm sure the day time is nice too.

Yelp
We had the Pad Thai & a burger. Good choices, fresh, hot & very nice wait staff. Beautiful restaurant w/a view.

Yelp
So happy the Peak Lookout Café is open again. It was closed last November & I was afraid it was gone for ever. But happily. It's open and I was able to have a club sandwich here. If you haven't been, the Peak Lookout is beautifully situated with a view of the south side of Hong Kong Island if you sit outside. Inside will be cooler but still very open with all the glass. And the food is good too. Well worth the prices and at lease one visit on you each trip to HK.

Yelp
What a pity! This is a historical landmark at the Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. This is also a collective memory site for most Hong Kongers who grew up here during the 50's 60's 70's. With everything considered, the food here is really mediocre at best, even the iconic Club Sandwich was done horribly, bread was way too stale to be made into a sandwich, if they do not wish to waste food, they can use the stale bread for other purposes, but not for sandwich. Hainanese Chicken, also an iconic item from the old days, but that too was subpar to the max! Chicken was over cooked to the point of being dry and tasteless, the rice lacks any flavour as this is the reason people order this dish is to have the rice pilaff that has the richness of the chicken stock and the herbs. None of that was present. A true disappointment, I almost feel that the location was wasted by the current management & kitchen team, as an icon of this tourist destination, The Peak Lookout deserves better!! If you really wanted to enjoy the scenery and absorb the old charm of this building, come in for a coffee or tea at most! Have a meal somewhere you can really enjoy the food!

Yelp
The patio is falling apart. Sadly, the walls, windows, gutters, and floorboards are in poor condition. For such an iconic restaurant, the owners should take better care of it as the atmosphere outside is very unpleasant due to its dilapidated state. Very unfortunate. Service was acceptable. Our server forgot our waters but immediately got them after being reminded. Drinks were mediocre. The latte and iced coffee was diluted. I hear the food is good and a walk through of the interior of the restaurant showed some lovely and classy decor. Hopefully they renovate and maintain the patio.

Yelp
We decided to stop here for dinner after visiting Victoria Peak since it looked very cute from the outside and was decorated well with Christmas lights. We sat outside and the ambience was wonderful although it was a little cold and the heat lamps weren't very effective. The menu features sections of all types of cuisines including asian, Italian, burgers, curries, etc. We ordered the pear, spinach and gorgonzola salad with poppy seed dressing which was pleasant but definitely not worth $168 HKD (about $21 USD). We also ordered the mixed stir fry vegetables which came with rice and were tasty but also not overall impressive. We also got red curry with chicken, and we liked this dish. Lastly, we got the pad thai and this was also delicious. Although this restaurant was very nice with great ambience, we were not too impressed by the food and do not think it was worth the price.

Yelp
Located near the Galleria atop the Peak area. Traditional European/English style décor which by the way as very beautiful. Average food. I tried the Chicken Vindaloo. Really spicy! The menu covers selections from all over the world. It is hard to please everyone and excel at anything. The service was excellent and the wine selection was good. Touristy but much nicer than your other choices nearby. You are not going to want to drink if you drove because the ride back down will be challenging if not deadly. I would definitely go back on my net trip to the Peak.

Yelp
This rustic restaurant is a great spot to grab a delicious lunch if you're at Victoria Peak. We came as a group of 30, and service was efficient and friendly. I ordered the veggie curry, which came with fluffy jasmine rice. It was delicious, filling, and spicier than I expected. The curry sauce was thick enough to hold the rice together, making it easier to eat with chopsticks.

Yelp
Despite having read about this in a Visitors Guide on Hong Kong and also not expecting to eat at this restaurant during out probably one visit we took to the peak via the Peak Tram since moving to Hong Kong, we were shocked by how good this place was. It probably warrents at 3.5, but not sure I would put it at a 4 level in my head. Probably because it is in the area of the biggest tourist trap in all of Hong Kong and it was expensive, it gets a 3 versus a 4. Not only did we like the outdoor seating option and either casual or dressy atmosphere (we felt OK casually dressed, but clearly others were dressed up), we were overwhelmed by the wide variety of options on the menu. They have something for everyone. And yes, it is indeed expensive, but the fried fish and chips (a little doughy, but good fish), stir fried veggies (a touch on the small side, but were not drenched in butter and cooked clean) and the pineapple fried rice (this was the highlight to our dinner and was spectacular!!!!!!) If you find yourself at the peak and need a decent meal and a cocktail, have no hesitation to stop on in to this restaurant. In the sea of options avaialble up on the peak, this was indeed a gem. We would take a cab and venture back up to enjoy cooler weather and a special night.

Yelp
A good mix of everything from everywhere hanging on the side of the Peak. It can be hot in the sun and the crowds make the wait long but it really is ok to be a tourist. Or walk across the street and get Burger King but....

Yelp
We came here for a Christmas Eve dinner. It is located at the most touristy place in all of Hong Kong, the Peak. While it has been around for a long time, I have never been here as a local. Sometimes only tourists go to touristy places. I brought my tourist and his family here, thinking it will have a festive atmosphere. It is indeed quite festive -- Christmas poppers and funny hats for everyone at the table, with an Australian Santa coming around to take pictures with people. The food is quite good as well, much to my delight. They have a Christmas set menu, and while not cheap, it came with plenty of food. The food choices are rather traditional (Western style), but sometimes traditional is best for the holidays. It is also one of the few places in Hong Kong where sitting outside is viable. Outdoor heaters and fresher air since you're up a mountain makes it a perfect location for anyone who likes a view.

Yelp
The Peak Lookout is a "must do" restaurant in HK. Not because it is the best of the best, but because it is right up in The Peak, and has this great heritage and an effortless kitschy cool that visitors and locals alike should experience. First, to the food. The menu is huge, massive. It's the size of the Sunday Times, just with smaller print! The flavours go right around the world, with western (European and American), SE Asian, curries, Chinese. They even have an oyster bar with the seafood flown in from goodness knows where. This does make it ideal for a group, as there is sure to be something for everyone, but if you are a slow coach like me, it'll take you ages to decide. The food is well prepared, especially the grill items and the curries. These two are particularly good. The wine list is extensive, as are the other drinks options, but I think they keep fairly small stocks. During one Saturday session with a couple of friends, we drank their entire stock of rose, which did take them about 2 months to replace - we were thirsty! The service is sort of old school, and a bit formal (but not in a good way). It's also bit difficult to get service on the terrace at night, as it is really dark and the wait staff just don't see you. It's actually better of an afternoon anyway, as you may catch a bit of a view, and sitting outside on a cool day is so nice. The location is great. Right next to the Galleria and Peak Lookout, but across the road, so that you don't get that busy bustle of these tourist hot spots, but are close enough to jump in a cab or bus home. I could imagine that in the past it was the envy of the surroundings, and this can be seen in the many historic photos of the site dotted around the restaurant. However, since the Peak's shopping "monstrosities" have grown up, the views on one side are now non existent. The view from the opposite side terrace look south, but it is starting to get a bit overgrown, so many of the tables are losing this view. Top tip, if you are on the terrace, sit closer to the entrance and not the toilets. The toilets are far away, so this is not the issue, it is the clear area in between the toilets and the last few terrace tables. Diners inside tend to come out to this clear area to smoke, which means they are smoking right next to those end tables.

Yelp
While the Fish and chips were good, I cannot give this place more than two stars. The reason for this is the service (or the lack thereof). The place was full when we first arrived, but we only had to wait 25 minutes and were free to walk around, so that's not the problem. The problem is that after being seated, we waited 30 minutes without anyone returning to take our order. Our waiter and several others passed by without as much as looking at our table, even when we were clearly done looking at the menus. We had to go and find a waiter and ask for assistance. I could see this happening to several other guests as well. The food came rather quickly; about 15 minutes after we placed our order. However, no one came back to ask if everything was okay. They didn't even ask how the food was when we paid the bill, which we also had to ask for, after waiting almost another 30 minutes. Summary: The food was good, but unless you are really hungry, I suggest you find another place.

Yelp
Five star view and ambiance, three star food quality. We enjoyed our experience here and would probably go back, although the food was just average. The outdoor patio made for a wonderful dining experience. The epic view along with a very old Banyan tree made for quite a peaceful setting.

Yelp
This restaurant serves ordinary food for a premium price. It's quite busy like all other restaurants here

Yelp
The owners did well with this location it has an amazing view and is the only place on the peak that feels a little less touristy. That said -- it is extremely touristy still. Our server was disorganized and hard to track down. We had to ask multiple times for someone to find our waiter to: order our meals, get drink refills, and for the check. I think we may have continued to wait for an hour to be served if we hadn't track him down. No one seemed to be in a rush to help out their customers. Also halfway through our meal they started blaring music in the otherwise tranquil atmosphere until another patron finally complained. The food was decent but, not life changing. Our group each had a different sandwich or salad and tried each other's meals. Each were generally bland and heavy on the mayo (even when the menu didn't indicate mayo). The prices for the location were not outrageous but I would suggest going down the mountain and spending your money somewhere else.

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant situated at the top of the peak, adjacent the peak galleria. It looks beautiful at night with all the lights in the garden. Perfect ambiance for date night Broad menu, lots of choices. Good food. Good service. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
With its prime location on the Peak and an old school charm to the venue, the Peak Lookout is actually very difficult to beat. They would win hands down for the location alone; but thank god their food is certainly worth the trek up here too! Peak Lookout has had a long history, previously it was known as Peak Café and it had been on this site since 1947 with a major refitting in 2001. The decoration both inside and outside would certainly leave you thinking whether you are in Hong Kong at all, especially on a breezy autumn day when you could see for miles around from the outdoor gardens. The food served here is of a mixed style- you could go for the traditional barbeque and grill items, the daily updated fresh seafood or- strange as it may sound- the tandoori oven. The huge range of Western and Asian items will mean that there will always be something right for everyone. On my visit I had ordered a seafood platter and the Hainan chicken rice; maybe unthinkable as a combination but it actually turned out to be very nice. Truth be told its not cheap; but what is cheap when you are on the peak?

Yelp
Food is mediocre, ambiance is rull nice on the other hand!! Just make sure you bring bug sprayy

Yelp
The French spring chicken dish with black pepper sauce was very good. Also enjoyed a frozen margarita. Easily got a table for three at 8pm on a Friday night. Service was good- staff very attentive.

Yelp
The views are amazing. The tram ride is interesting. Navigate the crowds waiting for Peak or Madame Tussaud's - bring your previously charged up Octopus card to bypass much of the line. Someone has built a mall at the peak: star restaurant is Bubba Gump and Burger King, if you like either of those. There is a Coach store and plenty of touristy artifact shops. Reminds me of Tennessee or Niagara Falls. Stars are for the view only. I was happier at a roof top bar in Central.

Janet L.

Yelp
If you have dogs, like my family does then the peak lookout is the perfect place for you to bring your dogs and enjoy a meal, on the peak nonetheless. One of Hong Kong's most beautiful places is the peak. Tourists often take the Peak Tram to go atop one of the highest points of Hong Kong. There is a magnificent view there. Many proposals have taken place at the Peak. I have witnessed one myself. Very romantic indeed. I usually go hiking on the weekends and one of the best hikes is the Peak. My auntie and I, whom I am very close to, takes me there with her dogs and we enjoy a good sweat. After our hike, we usually stay there and go to the Peak Lookout for lunch or a early dinner. The peak lookout is pretty famous for their Hainan Chicken rice. I've had this many times and my auntie loves to order their oysters which are always fresh. Our dogs, (two poodles) love coming here because the staff always brings water to them and they can lay out in the sun outdoors while we eat. It's a very enjoyable time for all of us. Not to mention they have a stunning view and an amazing outdoor area. At night this place has a live band sometimes and is a good romantic spot for couples. It's a nice restaurant but casual at the same time. Definitely a sandals and jeans kind of place but with an classy atmosphere.
