The Novel Neighbor

Super cute shop with bookshelves that just keep going. I love the staff recommendations on the shelves. I think it really brings attention to books worth reading when it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the choices. They also have a ton of bookish gifts throughout the store that lend something extra to the experience. Definitely worth a visit, and we will for sure be returning.

Whenever I am in Webster I make it my excuse to stop by the Novel Neighbor. I cannot adequately express my love for this bookstore. Of course there are all kinds of books to choose from, but also great kids gifts ranging from activity books and kits to card and board games. The atmosphere is just what you would hope to find in a small, locally owned bookstore - bright, joyful, inspiring, and full of book enthusiasts (both the workers and the shoppers). I never seem to have enough time to spend there because I could probably get lost thumbing through books for an entire day day.

My daughter has been begging me to bring her here. I now know why. Great atmosphere, knowledgable and helpful staff. All wrapped with a bow around the love of reading.

The Novel Neighbor is AMAZING! For Christmas this year, I decided to buy a monthly subscription box for my wife. I had ordered it early December and was confused when it had not shown up by Christmas, but wasn't too worried considering I had already paid for it. On December 30th, I decided to call in and check on it just to see if there was something wrong. I talked to Kassie, and asked about my "mystery box" subscription (not realizing this was different from the monthly subscription box) On December 31st I called back to check in again, and we both realized that I flubbed up on my part and ordered a monthly subscription starting January through March, and this was why my gift had not come in. All good! Nothing to worry about since that is what I signed up for, though on New Years Eve, we got it figured out and that was more than enough. I was prepared to give my wife her gift mid-January, until we hear the doorbell ring, and I look outside and see a gift bag on our front porch. I open it up, and see 2 books and a handwritten note from The Novel Neighbor apologizing for the miscommunication and letting us know they wanted to make it up to us by giving us two free books separate from the subscription! I was more than elated to tell my wife and give her the first part of her gift. I cannot stress enough how amazing they are because, this was all clearly miscommunication on my part, and they did NOT need to give us these two free gifts at all! They clearly care about their customers and we plan on buying all of our books from her moving forward. This store is so cute and well stocked. I loved how large the romance and fantasy sections were and they had more than just the latest books. I found books that I’ve never found at big box stores. I wish we lived closer, cannot wait to come back!

Had a great time checking out The Novel Neighbor. They were utterly packed two days before Christmas, and the store is a narrow labyrinthine place, so it was a bit claustrophobic. Their selection is wonderful, and they have a ton of non-book items, from tea to dishtowels, board games to soaps. I picked up some enamel pins for my bookbag and an item for a white elephant gift exchange. The staff were just wonderful, so personable, taking the time to visit with each person and help anyone who needed it.

This book store is why I love bookstores. The Novel Neighbor makes buying a book an adventure. Each genre is separated with clear signage and every section is filled with employee reviews. I love that the kids section has reviews and written by age appropriate readers! I could waste an afternoon just basking in this ambiance. Excellent small book store!
