"When The Loaf opened nearly a decade ago, it was the San Sebastián bakery scene equivalent to Edison inventing the lightbulb. OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it was a real turning point for bread in San Sebastián. The Loaf is still one of the only places in town where you can find real, funky sourdough, heavy ryes, and wonderfully large country-style loaves. This is a mandatory stop for any cheese-and-wine picnics, especially since it’s right in front of the Zurriola beach. It’s also a great place to grab a to-go coffee, made from beans roasted by hand in Barcelona, with a side of ocean views." - Marti Buckley

"All Things Flour, Washed Down with Coffee or Craft Beer The Loaf is San Sebastián 's favorite bakery. One of the only to work with sourdough starters and natural fermentation (aka real bread), after its founding in 2014 it became a staple in the daily shopping of the local bread-obsessed culture. It only makes sense that a team so driven by details would also focus on their beverage service. That's why, at The Loaf, you'll find locally roasted coffee to go with those 100% butter palmeritas, served up by a dedicated barista on a state-of-the-art La Marzocco machine. Or grab one of their sourdough crust pizzas and pair it with a Dougall's beer, one of the most established local brews from nearby Cantabria."

Google
Delicious. The tostada and coffee in the morning was great - as is the basque cheesecake which is absolutely amazing - and you can get it in a box to takeaway

‘Nice vegan cakes. The orange cake is the best! Great jam’ Lovely service.

Google
Fantastic pastries, great espresso, super friendly multinational staff. We live just on the french side of the border but we always stop by for a banana bread (etc.) and a coffee when in Donostia. Cool spot right by Zurriola beach.

The Loaf has your perfect breakfast, brunch or coffee takeaway. 🍞🍰☕️🏖️ The first time was summer ‘22 and those brownies at the beach right in front were delicious!🤤 This time I enjoyed some delicious avocado and tomato toast 🥑🍅 and worked inside for awhile. Really lovely people and a place I love coming back to! ☺️🙏🏼 Eskerrik Asko / Thank you team!

Very underwhelming. The goods were cold like they've been out since the morning. Flavor was okay but super dry and dense. It was closer to the end of the day but the baker down the street which had a line had fresh warm goods that were much more flavorful and visually appealing, also not so overpriced.

The staff is super friendly! The coffee is decent, and croissant I had lovely and flaky. It might have been time of the day, or because there was a marathon on the day I visited, but the selection seems a bit limited, and nothing that really would stand out versus other coffee shops/cafes/bakeries... hence the 3 stars. In a nutshell - if you’re there, you won’t be too disappointed... but it’s not somewhere I think you should go out of your way to find.

Google
Not a typical San Sebastian foodie spot but decent coffee and excellent basque cheesecake. The 2nd part of the cafe serves as a sort of shared workspace, so don't come here expecting much atmosphere!

Yelp
This is the best bakery we found in San Sebastián. The staff is very friendly and they make great baked goods. They also serve Sakona coffee which was a big plus as it allowed us to get everything before we headed out for our morning adventure in one pass. We went here 3 times in a short stay. We tried the carrot bread, croissant, banana bread and brownie. All were very moist and left you wanting more. They also serve espresso drinks at the larger location.

Yelp
Give me all the carbs from The Loaf! I loved the look and feel of the shop; with all of the beautiful natural light that comes in, their beautiful assortment of pastries, and simple but straightforward menu. Located near the beach, enjoying a nice beach walk and having breakfast here was perfect! My husband and I opted for a chocolate croissant and a small piece of blueberry bread (which was more like a cake) and it was great. We skipped on coffee, but they had a great offering of that as well. Had we had more time here, I would have opted for a loaf of their bread to takeaway!

Yelp
We enjoyed a luscious, thick brick of matcha brownie. So delicious!! And an unexpected find here after we visited Flying Tiger. I'd get more matcha in the future if I could. They offer samples and had very inviting fresh loaves laid out

Yelp
Good pastry and coffee. Easy stop in the morning or throughout the day. Three stars as it is not outstanding, but just a good average coffee shop and bakery

Yelp
Nice view and good food, but too expensive on my opinion. The blondie was good but i was expecting a little bit more from the carrot cake.

Yelp
Their self-proclamation of "best brownie in San Sebastián" may well not be hyperbole: it was phenomenal. We are also big rye bread fans so we did a half loaf of that was well and it was excellent. I saw another reviewer mention their espresso was too acidic. I'm a former barista and can say our drink (americano) was very well prepared, albeit a simple drink to make. Very friendly, helpful staff and great location right off the beach.

Yelp
The smell of fresh bread baking is pretty irresistible, and they have different breads coming out at different times of the day. The coffee cakes and cupcakes didn't look as interesting as the fresh bread. They also have a bistro menu (all in English) if you want more food. 8am is when the classic is out of the oven, and we made it at 11:30 just in time for the "extreme", which is a sourdough. It was still warm and had a good crust. For €2.50, it was a big loaf of bread. We snacked on this with our coffee at one of the small tables outside, and wished I had some butter/salt or cheese to go with the bread. After a few bites, it needed a little something more? I had a cold brew for €2, which is cheaper than in the US. However, their coffee was really acidic and not really my style. My boyfriend's cappuccino was also pretty acidic even with the milk. The view from the tables outside looks into their bread making kitchen next door, which is really nice.

Yelp
They were awful to me here. The cashier was incompetent in general, but then I paid with a 50 euro note and he gave me change for a 20. I told him so, and then the entire staff acted like I was a liar. They finally gave me my change by basically throwing it at me. I would definitely not go here again.

Yelp
Solid place for third wave coffee in San Senastian. Fresh organic bread and good beans for sale here too.

Yelp
The Donosita pie is incredible. Caramelized onions made right on the spot for you.
