Why I'll go back: A great way to feed your Hillstone fix without a reservation at neighboring Palm Beach Grill
You HAVE to order: The Emerald Kale Salad - maybe my favorite kale salad anywhere!
Tony's Tip: the sandwiches are pretty big. I think the play here is to pop in for a bite and do two apps plus a sandwich to share. You'll feel plenty full, and so will your wallet.
Having been a huge fan of Palm Beach Grill as well as its sister restaurants Hillstone and Houston's, we finally stopped into Honor Bar last night after a little window shopping in the Royal Poinciana Plaza. Pleased to see there was plenty of booth and bar seating at 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday evening. The atmosphere is quite loungey, with dark wood and leather booths, plus ample bar seating. They had classic crooner music piped in, which really completed the classy but relaxed vibe.
We chose bar seats, ordered drinks, and perused the abbreviated menu. While somewhat smaller than the PBG menu next door, many of the dishes are also offered here, plus a few unique items. My eyes immediately went to the deviled eggs (a bit of a culinary fetish of mine), and of course, that Kale salad. Deviled eggs were solid, though I'd warn that they had a pretty robust flavor - couldn't put my finger on it but sort of a spicy tomato (see pic). The kale salad is can't miss - my wife and I are addicted to the peanut vinaigrette dressing drizzled all over it, and the kale is not bitter (a failing of some salads using this leaf).
For dinner, we shared the crispy chicken sandwich, which they cut in two for us. Gotta say I was pretty glad we decided to share it, as one half was plenty for each of us. The kitchen did everything right with this: hot juicy chicken enveloped in a crispy batter-fried coating that held together, topped with a stacking of chilled tomato, provolone cheese, and slaw, and sandwiched by a melt-in-your-mouth sesame bun. Again, plenty for both of us. I'll note that the French Dip sandwich is very popular here - next visit for sure!
As for the bill, for two starters, the sandwich, a beer and side of fries, we got out of there for less than $80, including tip. Quite the bargain in the land of Palm Beach! All in all, The Honor Bar totally lived up to my expectations. You can set yours high, and I'm confident they'll do an "honorable" job meeting them.
