Where to Taste Tasmania's Wine and Food From Launceston to Hobart
"A 56-room boutique hotel housed in a historic Hobart jam factory on the docks, notable for its extensive art collection, its own cocktail bar, café and restaurant, and waterfront location that complements stays focused on dining and culture." - Betsy Andrews
"Henry Jones Art Hotel Australia’s first dedicated art hotel is also a hotbed of history. Set within Hobart’s oldest waterfront warehouses, which served as a jam factory from the 1890s to the 1970s and helped pull the seedy Sullivan’s Cove district out of poverty, the Henry Jones is a stylish blend of existing sandstone walls, wood beams, and tin roofing balanced with modern stainless-steel fixtures, glass bathrooms, and silk accents. More than 500 original paintings, prints, photos, and sculptures by some of Tasmania’s leading contemporary artists fill the property. In keeping with the city’s reputation as a food destination, the hotel is home to two restaurants (one centered on a wood-fired Asado grill), an all-day café, and a rough-luxe cocktail bar that makes an ideal pit-stop after an afternoon spent exploring Hunter Street’s19th-century architecture and harbor views."

"Tasmania’s known for unspoiled nature, but the port city of Hobart is Australia’s second-oldest. And it’s this old industrial history that the Henry Jones Art Hotel trades on; the property consists of a series of historic row houses and an old jam factory that have been restored to house a cool contemporary hotel and art space displaying hundreds of sculptures, paintings, and installations by Tasmanian artists." - Tablet Hotels
The hotel provided an exceptional stay from start to finish. Its location is unbeatable, making it easy to explore Hobart’s attractions within walking distance. The front desk service was flawless, with staff always attentive and professional, ensuring every detail was handled perfectly. The restaurant exceeded expectations, offering meals of outstanding quality that highlighted both freshness and creativity. Beyond comfort, the hotel’s interior decoration was impressive, blending style with warmth, leaving a lasting impression. Every aspect of my experience was seamless and delightful. If you want to discover the best of Hobart, this hotel is the place to stay.

We stayed at Henry Jones Art Hotel for 7 days and did Hobart and surrounds really well. The staff were genuine, happy and always helpful. This beautiful and historic building has all the modern conveniences and amenities you expect in a higher-end hotel. As a bonus it's enveloped in artworks to enjoy, either at your own pace or in a free tour for in-house guests. Our Delux Spa room had an excellent view of the harbour, Mt Wellington and the city. Our room was a wonderful place to wake up in and return to exhausted after our day trips. Comfortable bed, excellent amenities, exceptionally clean - serviced daily. We didn't need a car as the hotel's location was so walk-able for us, supplemented by day trip transport or the Red-decker bus which gets you everywhere you want to go. We were spoilt for choice of excellent restaurants and eateries, both attached to the hotel and nearby. Highly recommend, and we will be back.

Absolutely lovely converted old building in a fantastic location. They've clearly taken great pains in their design aesthetic and decor. I literally wandered around the hotel for a while appreciating their art selection and numerous reading nooks and crannies and structural oddities. Never before while travelling for work have I sent my partner back a bunch of photos praising the hotel I was in, but I did this time. Staff were also lovely and the amenities were good, enjoyed having breakfast and afternoon tea in the large atrium.

Overall we had a great stay. The staff were very helpful, welcoming, friendly and professional. The hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring Hobart and surrounds. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed - occasionally a little noisy. For the price, I would have expected them to be very quiet, but there was a bit of street noise and also a lot of noise from a neighbouring room, but that was probably more due to the inconsiderate attitudes of the people staying there. After speaking with the staff, the following night was better. Valet parking was great - our car was always ready as soon as we asked for it. Except for our one night of noisy neighbours, our overall experience was exceptional.

Stayed here on our honeymoon. Service was above and beyond. Check in was smooth and the duty manager took care of us with lots of local recommendations and took us to our room where a little gift from the hotel was waiting to celebrate our wedding. Bar had delicious cocktails and both the cafe and restaurant would highly recommend. We will be back.

Fantastic accomodation and customer service is outstanding. Rooms are beautifully presented and the history that has been retained in the building is truely beautiful. Very well located to all attractions and tourist spots

We stayed for one night, the lovely Hayley at reception gave us the best experience, taking us to our room on arrival, moving our car to the valet parking, and placing our luggage in it while we were having breakfast, this alone made up for the price. Our room was nice but didn't seem to warrant the high price, everything apart from tea and coffee was to be paid for including the bottled water (which you don't want to drink for city tap water) so suggested they give bottled water to customers, also needs a milk frother for the coffee machine too please. It had a lovely view from the room, would be better for thicker glass to stop some of the city noise though. The included breakfast was amazing, we didn't go to the restaurant for dinner as there wasn't much of an option to eat. It was worth the one off stay for us, especially with the amazing service from Hayley.

Yelp
A stylish hotel in a refurbished old sandstone warehouse and jam factory down on the dock. We stayed for three nights at the end of January-a busy time in Tassie.
Pros:
-really liked the look and feel of the building and spaces-a cool mix of old and new.. our room on 2nd (really third) and top floor-213- had exposed ancient beams and a metal roof above the soaring ceiling
-location in the center of the harbor was a plus with lots of restaurants nearby
-I slept well in the firm comfortable bed with great pillows
-the quiet, powerful AC got the room nice and cool and was controlled by an intuitive, straightforward thermostat
-we had breakfast included in our rate and the buffet included a choice of hot items-my wife like the avo toast with poached eggs and the waffle with fresh seasonable raspberry was also nice
-the staff is very helpful and friendly
-on-site hotel restaurants and IXL bar were quite nice
Opportunities:
-our room included breakfast but the 7 am start was a bit late for us one morning
-power access by the bed for charging gadgets was limited in our room to a plug in the headboard of the bed-far from ideal spot
-Wi-Fi in our room and lobby was rather weak and slow
-room was quite dark overall
Bottom line: this is a unique and beautiful hotel in a great location with a great staff. While Wi-Fi was well below today's standards, the rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Yelp
Thank you to April and The Henry Jones Art Hotel for the amazing stay at your home in Hobart.
From the time we arrived and welcomed by the team, to a welcome letter in our room from the general manager, local homemade chocolates, teas, honey in our loft, we were fortunate to stay in one of their loft rooms, right off the courtyard. We enjoyed exploring the property - an old jam factory, to 500 pieces of art throughout the hotel. And then to April for everything she took care of seamlessly for our stay, coordinating a local winery tour, tickets and ferry to MONA - everything was perfect for our stay. Truly one of the best hotels I've stayed in the world!

Yelp
Bored of your average business hotel, this was the perfect antidote to start of our holiday.
Combining old world charm with modern facilities and excellent service. The hotel is ideally situated to be able to walk to many of the features of interest in Hobart. The concierge service is excellent and is reminiscent of American quality hotels.
Our room overlooked the Harbour which gave us the feeling of being in the heart of things.
While away in the lounge bar, sampling the local spirits and beers. And go an splurge on a steak in their hatted landscape restaurant.

Yelp
Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Every penny.
This place is gorgeous. The old sandstone building invites you in. The friendly staff greet you. The Sidney Nolan (and other pieces) that adorne the walls flirt with you, the beautiful rooms with their exposed beams and gorgeous plush beds, ultra modern bathrooms romance you.
This place really does have it all. IT is right on the water surrounded by the old IXL jam stores. It looks over the harbour to Salamanca which isabout a 10 minute walk away. Stroll along the waterside to Salamanca where you'll find lovely bars and restaurants and on Sundays, the markets.
Breakfast is a choice of a la cart or buffet ($15 pp) or if you're like me and can't make up your mind you can have both for $22 or $25 (can't quite remember but thereabouts).
IMHO this is the best hotel in Hobart. If you get the opportunity to stay here - do it.

Yelp
A really nice and imaginative renovation. The rooms are remarkable, huge and lovely and a little bit quirky and there is art everywhere!. The bathroom appears to be a pod sent down by aliens but it is remarkably efficient and fun to be in. And they have free wifi (unlike most Australia hostelries)!
Our only complaint was the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. The concierge never seemed to be at his/her post and the hotel operator never answered the phone so we had to go down to the front desk to request items.
With the exception of a quick breakfast before leaving we did not try the food. The location cannot be beat for access to the waterfront, MONA and Salamanca.

Yelp
Brilliant!
Wonderful, comfortable hotel, lovely rooms with beautiful views over the harbour. Lovely little restaurant and coffee shop in an inner courtyard setting. Staff friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
We recently stayed in one of the harbour view rooms and it was a perfect base to explore Hobart. The henry jones hotel is a very old jam factory and the renovation has been so perfectly achieved. The hotel has every modern comfort but hasn't sacrificed any of the wonderful history of the building. The staff here from the concierge, to the hotel cleaners, to the people in the gift shop are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. It really felt like a home away from home. I wish I could give you more than five stars, henry jones, you deserve a galaxy of them

Yelp
Oh Henry Jones... you and your art and your fancy stuff... I'm in love!
The Henry Jones Art Hotel is expensive, lets not mess about here but seriously it is worth it. Their attention to detail, the fantastic service and the gorgeous rooms are amazing.
We stayed for a few nights for my husband's birthday and we were treated to gorgeous cocktails in the bar as well as a total standout dinner in the restaurant. The access to the cute little cafes and coffee spaces makes staying here very, very easy.
Splurge out for a special weekend, Mr Jones will not disappoint!

Yelp
We really enjoyed the Henry Jones art hotel, which is located in a refurbished jam factory right on the waterfront. Our travel agent was able to get us a room on the second floor with a great view of the water. Oddly, our window looking out on the great view was dirty and could stand to be cleaned. The window also had a broken bar that had not been repaired. Despite those minor gripes, there were a lot of really good things about the hotel including interesting art pieces everywhere, a very generous shower and bathroom, and a comfortable bed.The location is excellent. We were able to walk to many of the restaurants and attractions that interested us. The front desk staff were helpful, although not entirely efficient or reliable (they told us they booked a reservation for us but the restaurant said we did not have a reservation). Breakfast was good though pricey, a statement that also captures our thoughts about the hotel.

Yelp
Taste of history in its architecture with the combination of a modern clean cut look. Extremely convenient and a walk away from great restaurants and museum.

Yelp
Ho hum coffee but super duper fast wi-fi....a balancing act... you can't always have both but the accommodation rocks.
