"Books and Lattes at Elliott Bay Book Company in Capitol Hill The Elliott Bay Book Company is the Seattle bookstore and, thankfully, survived its move from Pioneer Square to Capitol Hill with soul and towering cedar bookcases intact. Elliott Bay lost a significant chunk of square footage during the move but gained a home right in the heart of Capitol Hill. Which makes it even easier to execute the ideal lazy Sunday afternoon combo: new novel + Fonte latte and one of the book-size housemade muffins from the on-site café (if it’s sunny, make a beeline for the grassy Cal Anderson park, just across the street). The food is northwest downhome—unpretentious salads with local greens, wholesome soups—but the abundant outlets and cozy café vibe make up for any food misses. Try it there: The lemon crepe Bring it home: Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice and tickets to a Neptune Theater reading"

Capitol Hill’s literary anchor since 1973, beloved for staff picks and near-nightly author events. Described as a literary landmark by the Seattle Times and once called the city’s bookish heart by The New York Times, it’s where the neighborhood reads itself.

Gorgeous bookstore. Stopped by Elliot Bay on a recent trip to Seattle and it was an absolutely lovely place. Very wide selection across genres (huge mystery section!!) and lots of staff recommendation notes everywhere. It was very busy, but not overwhelming. Just a lot of book lovers. Also random, but they had a massive assortment of cute greeting cards - wanted to buy them all. Highly recommend for all readers and non-readers (there’s a cute café in the back).

A treasure. This beautiful bookstore is idyllic, right out of every rom-com and meet-cute you’ve ever seen or imagined. My wife and I were allowed to do a photo shoot there when they opened and it was such a privilege to have been given the opportunity. The wood flooring, the assorted colors in all the books, and the smell of coffee sets you up to feel nice and cozy. Delicious coffee and pastries to enjoy in the little cafe. Will 1,000% be back. Thank you again.

A real bookstore, just like they used to be! If you remember the joy of browsing books and being pleasantly surprised by an unexpected find, you will enjoy this store. I don't know how they have stayed around, but they have. We saw a number of people on dates too. The kids' section is amaxing and full of adventure. Definitely worth a visit.

Bookstore has been opened since 1973 and it’s one of the largest one I’ve been to in Seattle. I spent a long time stuck in the graphic novels area and discovered books I’ve never heard of! They even have a section for gifts, calendars, journals. Tucked away in the back is a cafe. There are tables and seating on the second floor in the reading room as well. I’ll definitely be coming back!! Just a heads up that we saw at least 2 people slip on the stairs by the entrance on a rainy day. Please be careful when coming back down the stairs. The staff is aware and did put a sign out after.

This is a great independent bookstore. There's ample shelf space for a good selection of various titles and subjects. The staff, that I talked to about various topics, were very knowledgeable. The space is clean and is "a well-lighted place."

Google
Absolutely an amazing independent bookstore. If you can't find it, they will order it for you. A coffee shop and places to read in back of store. Go support this Seattle institution that deserves all the hype!

Went there for a book signing. Had heard of this store but had never had the opportunity to visit. It was very clean and all the books were well organized with each section clearly marked. Had a coffee at the cafe too which also had sandwiches and snacks too with plenty of chairs and tables to sit at. If you're in the area and have a craving for a physical book to purchase, don't pass on this historical little shop! You'll be glad you did!

Wow! This was definitely a highlight of our trip! We loved this book store! We will be going back every time we visit! There's a fun coffee shop in the back with spots to sit and read, plenty of books to choose from with fun little reviews of them, fun apparel & random things for gifts, vinyls & a fun kids section too! Definitely go check it out!
