Absolutely STUNNING and I have been to quite a few other churches/cathedrals in Puebla and Oaxaca and this one tops them all. I was only able to spend about 20 minutes looking around since we had gone to other local attractions but this was the highlight and so worth it. If you only have a short time in Oaxaca do yourself a favor and see this church.

The exterior is highly deceiving! Within the cathedral is a vast area with highly ornamental ceilings as well as a mini museum which provided an insight into the history of Oaxaca, the arrival of the Spaniards and the Mesoamerican culture.

Absolutely stunning! It would be so easy to spend an hour plus here absorbing all the details that make this cathedral extraordinary. The tree on the ceiling of the antechamber is amazing—don’t miss that. Loved all the beautiful chapels with their unique looks—especially the chapel of silence.
