"Choosing your taqueria chain in Mexico City is kind of like choosing your soccer team: It's likely to cause some debate and is a marker of age, social standing, tastes, and politics. The main divide seems to be between El Farolito and El Califa, so much so, that there is one street in the Condesa where the two warring factions are directly across from one another. Both serve great tacos, whether its steak, nopal, chicken, pork belly, or the standard al pastor (spit-fired, marinated pork), but each has its own specialties. Farolito, which is slightly more old-school has its own salsa especial recipe, a mix of all their salsas thrown together on the grill—dangerously spicy and addictive. Meanwhile, the Califa, the hipster's taqueria of choice, offers "the Costra" which was invented in a taco stand outside one of the upscale nightclubs in the 90's and became legendary: it's a tortilla topped with an abundant amount of crisped cheese and then filled with a meat topping. Try both: We try to be non-partisan when it comes to tacos (though we're starting to lean toward El Califa)."

Is this a chain taco joint? Yes. Are there hundreds of taco stands all around on street corners and elsewhere? Also yes. Does that make what El Califa doing any less delicious? A resounding no. We've been several times and just... from the costras, to the nopales, to my new favorite, the cebollas, the guac... totones... every little thing was so absolutely delicious. And the sleeper hit for me, the chicharron de queso... my goodness, what a treat. Sit on the patio, watch the bicicletas roll by on a Sunday, or pop in at 2am on a Thursday because you missed your flight and didn't get in until nearly 1am. Absolutely loved everything I've tried here, and a great staff as well.

Everything about this place was fantastic. The taco options were endless, and they were all really good. My absolute favorite was the ribeye taco, it was incredibly delicious and satisfying. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. I highly recommend it!

Spacious modern ambiance restaurant with some outdoor seating. Very extensive menu. Even though know for their tacos, I chose a pita. It was tasty grilled and not greasy. Very attentive service.

Pros: - Quick service - great food (sauces were great) - ordered 6 tacos and a chicken soup. All delicious. Cons: - a little on the pricier side. Other cheaper alternatives available in the area. Would go back!

The tacos here are a little more expensive compared to some other taquerias but in my opinion it is worth it. The meat seems like it is higher quality and the flavors are wonderful! We enjoyed the costras with arrachera (grilled cheese wrapped around grilled skirt steak in a flour tortilla), and the prime sirloin on a crispy corn tortilla with cheese. Guacamole is also very good. They are open super late so it is a great option for late night food!

The tacos were plain but full of flavor. I ordered three different ones…the steak with cheese, the beef Al pastore and the Gaona. Someone recommended the steak with cheese, but they must not have taste buds…that was by far the most underwhelming. HOWEVER, the beef al pastor and Gaona were amazing! I ended up ordering a second Gaona bc it was that good! The fried cheese is ::chefs kiss:: I enjoyed the array of sauces too. The green sauce was my fave! I’m not sure what it is, but i need the recipe! The flavors were def on point and since this place doesn’t close until 4 am, it’s a perfect late night snack.
