If you’re considering Tam Tam Café, do yourself a favour and steer clear. We went there as part of a guided tour. This was by far the worst dining experience we’ve had in Vietnam. The staff have absolutely no personality, they respond in a cold, morbid, and unfriendly manner, and even start cleaning your table and removing condiments while you’re still eating, clearly trying to rush you out so they can fill the seats with the next wave of tourists.
To make things worse, they actually place “reserved” signs on tables marked “TOURIST,” which is both disrespectful and discriminatory. The atmosphere feels mechanical and profit-driven, with zero hospitality or care for customers.
What truly crossed the line, however, was that the restaurant allowed street vendors to walk in and harass diners at their tables. When we politely asked one vendor to leave, he became aggressive and yelled “go back to your country”, unfortunately with minimal intervention from the staff.
It’s a real pity, because the food itself is genuinely tasty and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the service and overall experience completely overshadow it.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Hoi An that treat guests with genuine warmth and respect, Tam Tam Café should not be one of them. Avoid at all costs.
