"If you’re new to omakase sushi experiences, we always recommend Sushi By M as a starter spot - especially now that they’ve recreated their entire sushi bar in a covered structure on East 9th Street. The $50, 12-piece menu is less expensive than the set price at other incredible sushi places in NYC, but you’ll still get high-quality pieces like yellowtail, seared albacore, and slightly creamy-tasting shrimp. Not to mention, you have the option to add on combinations involving uni and wagyu. The liveliness at Sushi By M is just as important as the sushi, which can partly be attributed to the fact that the servers walk around pouring complimentary sake. Expect pop music, excellent fish, and possible drunkenness." - hannah albertine
"You can think of Sushi By M in the East Village as an omakase party with a $50 cover charge. While you’re here, it’s likely that the chefs will give out sake (and also have some themselves) as Top 40 plays in the background. If you want things to feel even more celebratory, add the $18 Big Mac piece at the end of the 10-piece sushi tasting. It involves chopped toro, seared toro, two kinds of uni, and wagyu all wrapped up together in a piece of seaweed." - hannah albertine
