Sugar Ridge Resort Antigua

We loved our honeymoon stay at Sugar Ridge. When you first arrive, we were greeted with welcome drinks (our type of place) and they had our luggage brought to our room. The front desk was very helpful with getting taxi's/shuttles around the island and to the beach. They were also very helpful with setting up our excursions. We went during the slow season (Sept 2018) so there were not many other guests, upside is there was no kids - only adults! The food was always on point and we enjoyed the selection they offered. We are also athletes and the gym was very clean, and had plenty of equipment for a solid workout! The restaurant at the top of the hill has the BEST views on the island and the servers were seriously so nice. I highly recommend getting the all inclusive package. It's 100% worth it. We even had free drinks and food brought to our room when we felt like just chilling for the night. I have recommended this place to a few friends and I hope they consider staying here. One thing to consider, you are not on the beach, which is what we wanted. You are up in the hills and have a view of the beach AND the hills! OH YES, and the plunge/infinity pool at the top of the hill next to the restaurant was magical with plenty of places to sit. We are huge "VIEWS" people and this place had all of them.

Enjoyed my stay here but can't really support the "luxury hotel" categorization. Good: Rooms are decent size, gym is well equipped. Sunsets at Carmichael's are wonderful. Staff are polite and attentive. Bad: The two pools are rather small and the food at the restaurant is mediocre. I would have regretted an all inclusive here.

It has beautiful views and some members of the staff are absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, everything is ridiculously expensive, they charge 23% in taxes for everything. An extra 13% to guests of the resort... A shuttle to and from the airport is $90. One would think shuttle service would be provided but no. Do NOT do all inclusive here because the food is just not that good. Take a short walk down to Miracles for dinner, you wont regret it! Now the fashion show was a blast and the woman that runs the gift shop is a gem! The private pool is wonderful! I have not yet seen any guests in the big pool.

Sugar Ridge was wonderful. The staff was helpful and the room was clean. It’s on a mountain side so be ready for stairs. I’d say the all inclusive probably isn’t worth it but the breakfast plan is. You can easily walk to jolly beach or crows nest beach / bar from here and there are several restaurants within walking distance. If you get a room with a plunge pool make sure it’s in the lower numbers as the higher numbers don’t have good enough sun exposure to warm the pools. I will say they make really great french fries.

We spent a week at Sugar Ridge for our honeymoon. We wanted a romantic, quiet and unique hotel, which is exactly what we got at Sugar Ridge. Sugar Ridge is a lovely, small resort spread across a hillside that overlooks Jolly Harbour and the Caribbean Sea. We initially thought we would be spending every day at the beach, but we loved the resort so much we spent most of our time there. We asked for a room with a view and they gave us a room right at the top of the hill, next to Carmichael's (the fine dining restaurant) and the amazing infinity pool. The room itself was modest but very comfortable, and we loved the personal plunge pool. We were on the all-inclusive plan. On our first day, we thought that maybe the all-inclusive plan was a bit of a mistake because there are only two restaurants and two bars, but we quickly realized that the plan was far cheaper than going a la carte. The limited dining options didn't matter because the menus varied each day and we always found something new to try. The food was very good and the drinks were plentiful. The staff were exceptional, and went out of their way to help make our stay really special. One of the highlights of the trip was the hike up Mount Obama with Vorn (have you heard he's unmanageable?), which was not easy but very worth it. Just a couple of things to be aware of: The resort is built on a steep hill, and is not ideal for folks with limited mobility. The resort offers shuttles up and down the hill as needed, but if hills aren't your thing, we really recommend requesting a room at the lower part of the hill instead of relying on the shuttle. With respect to the beaches, the website says that there are shuttles to Turner's Beach and Valley Church Beach, and Sugar Ridge guests can get service at both locations. At the resort, we were told the shuttle service went to Castaways (in Jolly Habour) and Valley Church Beach, but not Turner's Beach. We found this conflicting information confusing and a bit annoying. HOWEVER, you can still ask the shuttle drivers to take you to Turner's Beach (we did) and you can enjoy service from the restaurant there (it was great).

Absolutely beautiful resort with all the amenities you could ever want or need including a full gym (there are daily hikes into town). The view of the mountainside, the Caribbean sea + the spa, courteous staff & divine rooms is all simply amazing. There is also a very nice upscale restaurant if that is what you want & there are daily trips to the beach. It is Quiet, Serene, Peaceful, Beautiful but yet there are so many things to do if you so choose. A++++

My partner and I booked this beautiful hotel after seeing the amazing views it provided. We loved how beautiful and clean everything was. The food was spectacular both at Sugar Club and Carmichael's. Very romantic and perfect for us. What lacked was the staff service. From the start, we would ask for minor things (info on nearby places, water bottles at 12am) and we would instantly get little to no help from reception or staff. I booked a spa day for us and the manager was extremely rude. Did not even ask us how our treatment was but was quick to ask another lady (i am hoping it wasn't because she was Caucasian and we aren't). My boyfriend is well off, we comport ourselves with manners anywhere we go but this lack of customer service was very disappointing. The waiters and waitresses were not too friendly. Even the hostess would give us issues when we asked to get a table for dinner, clearly seeing that there were about 10 tables empty. She would give us an excuse saying they were all reserved but when she asked her supervisor, voila! We got a table. We finally suggested to one the restaurant's managers and she agreed with us: she said she's seen the lack of correct service in the hotel. This is considered a luxury hotel and customer service should be top notch. I travel a lot and in many Caribbean islands what sticks with your memory is how wonderful you are treated. Overall, I would not stay here again but Antigua itself is a beautiful island with lots of culture.

Lovely resort with very friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. There are two restaurants to choose from:- Sugar Club has limited choices but there is something to suit most palates. This is where you have breakfast too.Carmichael's restaurant has views over Jolly Harbour to enjoy as you savour some delicious food and drinks. Shuttles take you to the most amazing beaches only 5 minutes away. Had an amazing holiday.
