"The Coolest Museum in Florence When people think of Florence , they usually think of Renaissance art and crowded museums filled with altarpieces and "Madonna and Child" images. While the Renaissance is the biggest draw of this historic city, there is a lot more to its art-museum scene. The Palazzo Strozzi is a fine example of a museum that doesn't just showcase great art but also plays an important role in the community. Inside this Renaissance palace—a work of art in itself—visitors will find temporary exhibitions that cover a variety of time periods and cultures. On Thursday evenings, the courtyard is transformed into a social hub with hip Florentines having drinks and coffee at the café and on outdoor couches. The museum also offers free entrance to the downstairs exhibition spaceon select evenings and, in summer, hosts movie and music nights. Palazzo Strozzi has also gotten on board with making art an interactive experience, especially for children. Parentscan purchase afamily ticket which includes kid-friendly activities including workshops, sketching in the galleries, storytelling, and “stroller tours.”"

"One of Florence’s best kept secrets, Palazzo Strozzi is a beautiful, freestanding Renaissance palazzo with an ambitious contemporary art program. Whether its Carsten Holler’s latest experimental piece or an Marina Abramovic retrospective, Palazzo Strozzi constantly amazes through innovative, often interactive, exhibitions. Although the historic structure remains intact, the gallery space inside the museum is thoroughly modern and aptly renovated for art shows. Most exhibitions require advanced reservations, and the shop sells wonderful made-in-Florence gifts." - Erica Firpo

"Start from the top. What's this museum best for? Palazzo Strozzi, right in the heart of the city, is the best place in Florence to see contemporary art and traveling international exhibitions. It’s ever-changing and always has interesting artists like Bill Viola and Peggy Guggenheim. Who else can we expect to see here? Rotating exhibitions, events, and concerts host the likes of Marina Abramović, Bill Viola, and Ai Weiwei. And are there any interesting special exhibits we should check out? The 15th-century Renaissance mansion, originally built for and by Filippo Strozzi, one of the Medici's major political and commercial rivals, today the building houses seasonal, non-permanent exhibits. How's the crowd—crowded, or not so crowded? This museum is less crowded than others in Florence. But it's still a cultural institution—with an impressive roster of concerts, events, talks, workshops, and theatrical performances—that draws a crowd of in-the-know aesthetes. Check the website to see what's happening. On a more practical note, how are the facilities? The museum is fully accessible; there's an elevator and you can reserve a wheelchair in advance. Say we're feeling a bit overwhelmed by the art—is there a guide to help us out? You can pre-book guided tours (offered in multiple languages). There are also audio guides that change with the exhibits. Is the gift shop worth a stop? A popular gift shop, which is a favorite even among locals, sells postcards and exhibition memorabilia alongside locally made jewelry, decor, and cookbooks. And the café? Strozzi Café, open to gallery visitors and passersby alike, serves coffee, cocktails, pasta, and more in an atmospheric, wifi-enabled setting. The large menu ranges from antipasti starters and pastas to fish and burgers; it's also perfect for a coffee and pastry. How long would you estimate we should allot for a visit to the Palazzo Strozzi? With a supremely manageable size and setup, this museum is definitely doable in under 90 minutes. The guided tours also last an hour and a half." - Bridget Arsenault

I really like this gallery. This was the second time I’ve been and I thoroughly enjoy how they utilize the old building for contemporary displays. Well curated.

Palazzo Strozzi is a magnificent 15th Century (Renaissance) residence in central Florence. Today it is a hub of culture hosting concerts, exhibitions and installations. An exhibition of the work of Helen Frankenthaler, an American abstract artist, runs until January 26. It’s well worth visiting. Allow about 90 minutes but you may want more time if you really enjoy this type of art. It certainly makes a change from the Renaissance works which proliferate in the churches and museums of Florence. No line ups. Magnificent spaces to hang these very large works of art. Well curated by Douglas Dreishpoon. There are also works by her contemporaries Jackson Pollack, David Smith, Anne Truitt, Mark Rothko, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland and Anthony Caro. Don’t miss. An exhibition of DRIFT opens this week. I’ll comment on it in November on my next visit to Florence. I saw their work already in Amsterdam. Looks interesting

I visited the museum because of the photos presented here on google maps. I knew they had temporary exhibitions (which aren’t always to taste). But was looking forward to some fine art as well. But nothing! Only one floor with « art » by Helen Frankenthaler, which looked like child paintings and paint poured on canvas. I felt so scammed, that I asked for a refund - which of course they didn’t give. DONT COME HERE, if you are looking for actual art and a meaningful way to spend your money.

Had a memorable breakfast here whilst browsing the city. A wonderful, calm space with great cafe.

Having a sizeable collection of Renaissance art, strozzi palace is located near the piazza del repubblica. It's a large striking structure with plenty of iron rings on it's facade which I heard is for tying your horse at in olden times.

Visited the Anish Kapoor exhibition. While some of his ideas and methods are quite interesting, I just don’t „get“ most of his ideas and philosophy behind his artworks. Also visitors are supposed to wandern around some of the artworks but in this museum you cannot which is a pity.
