"Run with great dedication by two generations of the same family, this traditional inn is a real gem. Offering a choice of two set menus – one of which is vegetarian – and a small à la carte selection, the father-and-son team ensures that every diner is catered for. Jochen Helfesrieder and his father Fritz stick to seasonal produce when choosing ingredients for their classic-based cuisine, which is based on select regional as well as international produce. Some of it comes from their own farm garden, but the menu also includes excellent fish from France. This picture-perfect traditional Baden inn dating from 1764 has tastefully decorated dining areas – opt for rustic charm with an old tiled stove and wooden panelling, or more modern decor. There is also a pretty garden terrace with a pond. Cosy and comfortable guestrooms." - Michelin Inspector

The hotel has a great location. Breakfast is top quality. The rooms are well presented and I had a balcony. The roof top bar has lovely views. Sadly there is no priority for hotel guests on seating/tables. Majority of the staff are fantastic. There are electrical bikes that you can use complimentary. Encountered some issues, yet the Management were fantastic. Highly recommend this hotel.

From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive to every detail, making me feel welcome and valued. The check-in process was smooth, and I was personally escorted to my room.||My room was elegantly designed, blending classic décor with modern amenities. The highlight was the stunning view overlooking the river and Zurich’s charming cityscape. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was equipped with all the essentials for both leisure and business travel, including fast Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, and a spacious bathroom

We booked a stay here with our 2-year-old and were very disappointed. The room we were given was so small that the hotel’s own crib couldn’t even be opened inside. When we raised this with reception, they spoke to the manager who told us we could have a bigger room—only if we paid extra. It felt like we were being blamed for their mistake, which is unacceptable for a so-called five-star hotel. In the end, they managed to find a narrow crib, but as you can see in the attached picture, to cross the room we literally had to climb over the bed. Beyond this, the overall experience was poor: • Facilities: Only one elevator for the entire hotel - be prepared to waste your holiday waiting for it. • Rooftop bar: A really beautiful rooftop and one of the main advantages of the hotel, but it’s also open to the public. As paying guests, we could hardly ever get a table (managed only once during our stay, mid-week). And of course, to make more money, they allow cigar sales - so all it took is one person to smoke nearby to ruin the evening, and make our clothes smell like a cigarette lounge. • Design & comfort: Although recently refurbished, the interiors feel basic and not in line with 5 stars hotel standards. Overall, this was easily the lowest value for money hotel I have ever stayed in.

Google
Absolutely fantastic. At check in there was a small hiccup with the luggage (not a big deal at all). They apologized (when no apology was needed) with a handwritten card and a bottle of champagne. Top notch service. The river view room was fantastic

Google
Fantastic experience all around. Location is right in the heart of the old town. Rooms are well appointed and the staff will cater to whatever you need. Complementary breakfast at La Rotisserie is a five star experience by itself. Highly recommend.

A very nice luxury hotel in wonderful location. The rooms are quite pricey but it is a top notch establishment that includes a Michelin Star restaurant. Rooms are not large but very nice. This might sound a bit odd but the shower’s textured surface and its hardware were the best we ever experienced. You can be confident your stay will be memorable. Enjoy!

An Unforgettable Stay at the Storchen Hotel From the moment I arrived, the Storchen Hotel in Zurich exceeded every expectation. The service was impeccable, with a staff that was both attentive and genuinely welcoming, making me feel right at home. The entire hotel feels steeped in history and sophistication, yet it maintains a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The culinary experience was a true highlight of my stay. The food was nothing short of excellent, with each dish showcasing incredible skill and creativity. A standout was their brilliant twist on a Caesar salad, which featured smoked crumbled pork belly—a delicious, savory touch that elevated a classic dish to something truly memorable. I was also incredibly impressed by the charcuterie board, which offered a wonderful selection of expertly cured meats and complementary flavors. My experience at the Storchen Hotel was truly flawless. The combination of impeccable service, a beautiful setting, and absolutely outstanding food makes it a destination I can't wait to return to.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, beautiful room. Lake and church view, white marble bathroom. Great service, fast check in. Room upgrade, early check in and late checkout, free buffet breakfast, center of town. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Go to The Nest - rooftop bar. Gorgeous views of Lake Zurich and nearby buildings. Drink options for everyone, food was delish.

Yelp
AMAZING hotel. As an American, I felt a little insecure because of how I hear everyone in Europe hates Americans. I was proven wrong. They gave my little boy the cutest little stork and were so welcoming. Don't even get me started on their Michelin start restaurant and the VIEW from our room!!!! 10/10 recommend!!!!

Yelp
We stayed here during a long weekend and this hotel has a fantastic location in the middle of the city and on the river. That said, it was very tough to drive to the hotel. Essentially you have to drive down a pedestrian road. There is only one elevator for guests and it's shared with non-guests trying to get up to the rooftop bar. Breakfast was great, my wife and our boys really enjoyed it every morning. As for the restaurant, we attempted numerous times to get reservations and failed each time, even before our stay. To be honest, the boy reason we chose the hotel was for the restaurant.

Yelp
WOW! We stopped here along our stroll through Zurich. We indulged in drinks outside overlooking the Swiss Parliament, Grossmunster, and bustling city dwellers. It couldn't have been more wonderful. This was our first stop with my cousins I hadn't seen in 5 years. We ordered some beers and cheered to our lives, our time together, all while in a most spectacular bar overlooking the most amazing city in the world. Service was amazing and our time together was unforgettable. Stop here if you have time, it is superb.

Yelp
Beautiful old hotel in the heart of Zürich, right on the river. Close to everything. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were in a suite which was spacious and quiet. The rooftop bar has lovely views of Lake Zürich and is popular in the afternoons. The food at the hotel is excellent as well.

Yelp
Definitely one of my most favorite hotels in Zurich. Great location, amazing food and nice design of the hotel as well as the rooms. The views from the rooftop terrace as well as from the terrace downstairs are just stunning

Yelp
Really nice hotel with a very nice outdoor seating area. It's definitely on the more expensive side, but if you're okay with that it's 100% the place to go. We sat outside and had a refreshing ice coffee along with some little appetizers. The guacamole was really tasty, they don't bring a lot of chips with it, but the waitress was nice enough to bring us some more when we had extra guacamole leftover. The service was pretty good, they definitely get busy on a nice summer day. I haven't actually stayed at the hotel, but judging from the inside and the other reviews I'm sure it's a great experience. Also the location in Zurich is very nice being close to lots of other shops, restaurants and right on the river.

Yelp
This is a wonderful hotel, a short walking distance to everything, including the train station. We enjoyed our stay very much. The beds are just like home. I recommend the river view if possible. Breakfast buffet is included and it is wonderful. The servers are genuinely charming too.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in Zurich for a moment of contemplation and quietness in the hustle and bustle of downtown Zürich. The very beautiful view of the river Limmat and Zurich's landmark Grossmuenster creates a unique experience. The service is outstanding, the interiors of relaxed elegance, the quality of food and drinks superbe! It's a place for a special occasion or simply a poet

Yelp
Drink outside. Check. Drink outside on the Lake Zurich Canal. Check. Drink outside on the Lake Zurich Canal while taking in the views of the city and passers-by. Check. This spot is prime time for drinking and chillin while in town for a few beautiful sunny and warm days. Waiters are quick and friendly...and the fact that they hook you up with peanuts and olives with each drink is pretty nice. I'll be back. Be like Louis R, travel to Switzerland.

Yelp
Great location for walking Zurich. The service was good and the rooms had great views. The bar down stairs was lively and well serviced

Yelp
Fantastic stay! I stayed in room 321 and the view of the river was amazing! I loved the resident swans and enjoying my coffee along the railing watching the water taxi go by. The bed and pillows made for a perfect rest. The macaroons and Lindt chocolates left at turndown we're a sweet surprise. The concierge had great recommendations to see, do and eat. All around great staff.

Yelp
Amazing food! Beef tartar was delicious. Lobster bisque is a must have. I ordered the king clip with the prawn- cooked perfectly. My mom ordered the ravioli(filled pasta) with veal- also delicious. Pasta cooked perfectly! There were also very cute dessert chocolates and pastries at the end. Excellent service :] Definitely recommend this restaurant~
google avatar

Louis L.

Yelp
Expensive food that did not live up to the quality. I had the veal and it was salty. Nothing was memorable about it. Service was great but the food wasn't worth the price tag. There is much better selections down the road.

Yelp
Was on a whirlwind work trip over 5 days starting in Leipzig, to Düsseldorf to Susteren to Belgium then Bern and last night in Zurich. Passing by the Storchen hotel on canal side, observed the cigar bar sign and was sold. Was hoping for a quick bite to eat, adult beverages and cigar.... Sasha was there to fulfill our needs with pleasantries and great snacks, drinks (including one we did not order, but he insisted went with the cigars we had... Which it did!!!!) and conversation. Thank you Sasha and if I return to Zurich, I absolutely will visit again. Thank you Storchen!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch while walking around Zürich. Fabulous lunch with there version of an American Club Sandwich. Excellent. Came with fries. Hubby had a mixed green salad with olives, feta cheese, herbs frisée lettuce mix and creamy Greek/herb dressing. Must try ice cream. View of canal. Sat outside and enjoyed local enviable. A must try

Yelp
This hotel is a role model for what 5 star service and accommodation should look like. We stayed there over the holidays. From the time you get there, the staff absolutely treat you like gold. The rooms, the food, the atmosphere is exceptional. But it's the staff that make it special. And the location is just perfect. Great views and close to all major shopping. We are tough customers to please and this hotel out did themselves in making us completely satisfied. We will definitely go back there again.

Rex S.

Yelp
Hotel Storchen offers luxury, comfort and great customer service. My first time in Europe and am SO happy that we stayed here. It really made my trip really enjoyable. Centrally located in old town Zurich with a wide variety of choices for eating and shopping. It feels like anywhere you go leads you back to the hotel. The staff was really great from time of arrival to departure. Saw familiar faces at the front management and restaurant staff each day and night and enjoying getting to know them. The stay was just as great...the room was perfect size. It was a bit pricey, BUT it was really worth it. I am just sad we left this afternoon to see another part of Switzerland. And it just doesn't compare to Storchen and their wonderful staff.

Yelp
Hands down the absolute best hospitality, most thoughtful and gracious, go the extra mile considerate and generous service of any 5 star hotel I've ever stayed. Unbelievably personalized service I've ever had--it was our wedding anniversary, which because my husband had mentioned to them, they had strewn fresh deep scarlet rose petals in the shape of a heart, mini chocolates and champagne, flowers everywhere, anniversary wishes. When we thanked them and told them we don't drink alcohol, they genuinely looked disappointed, and asked us what else we'd like. I must confess: I was so touched and moved, I started crying, because come on, how often do we get treated with such absolute humble generosity? And from an establishment no less? The room itself was gorgeous, with a river view, pristine white with touches of red everywhere, romantic and then some. I wish I'd taken photos, because no hotel has ever gone to such lengths for us. The bed linens . . . I've no idea how many thousands of thread count in those sheets, and did I mention the pillow menu, all types of densities and sizes, To pick us up from the airport, they'd sent over an S Class -, allowed us to check out a bit late and held onto to our luggage for several hours while we did some errands. Their breakfast to swoon over: a massive fresh tray of honeycomb, personal silver coffee pots with hot cream, all manners of pastries and breads, eggs, fruits and the like. This was no simple continental breakfast, with all types of sausages, bacon, many types of cheese and yogurt, this was an all out full on banquet and feast. The dining room genteel and old world overlooking the lake, crystal chandeliers and white tablecloths. It felt like something out of a fairytale, an idyllic setting and beyond all this opulence, it was the warmth and sweetness of the staff, their genuine wish and desire to make our stay special--this is the true mark of a world class hotel. When we checked out, they gifted us with swiss chocolates and a complimentary little stuffed stork :-) The exterior of the hotel did not clue me into the riches to come, the facade is relatively simple, but the instant we walked in, and we breathed in their willingness to please, their excitement to have us stay with them--Wow wow wow--I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, centrally located, walking distance to everything and not farther than 20 minutes from the airport--though there are larger places to stay, I doubt there's a greater boutique hotel in Zurich, especially one offering a personalized and intimate feel. If I had to sum up the hallmark of the Storchen it would be: service. Who else and why else would an institution take the time to pluck dozens and dozens of rose petals so they can arrange them in a HEART shape on your bed upon arrival? There's no other word for this other than love. I felt loved, and never saw it coming. Thank-you, Storchen--keep up your astonishing work.

Yelp
I must eat gluten-free and Storchen was able to prepare a wonderful meal for me. They even had gluten free baguettes that were far better than is typical. The lobster soup/bisque was the best I've ever had. The ravioli my dining partner had was excellent, as was a gluten free avocado salad I had. The upstairs balcony overlooks the river with a beautiful view of Zurich. Our server was fairly brusque, but as we had wandered in a bit informally dressed, I'm not sure if that influenced her manner with us. The other staff was pleasant. I'd certainly return!

Yelp
The renovation is five star, as is the food & service. But the young women at reception and serving the morning meal require extensive training. They do not understand the concept of graciousness. Prepare to be treated as if you were in a 2-star. We had requested early check in (at 14.00 hours) and when we arrived, we were told by the reception girl, "Fifteen minutes," then, "Ten minutes," then, "Come in an hour." We were finally admitted after the normal time. There was no apology and no effort made to ring housekeeping and notify them that guests were waiting--"the customer comes last" seemed to be her motto. We were addressed as if we had asked for the moon--she really did not know how to effectively handle a routine request. The girls in the breakfast room did not want to be on duty. Sour & passive. There were only four seated guests, but we had to wave and wave to get any coffee. There was then much banging of china to show what an annoyance we were. We are Swiss, so this is no cultural misunderstanding. These women belong at Ibis.

Yelp
Excellent Hotel. We've stayed in some very elegant hotels around the world but this is definitely one of the most elegant. Very helpful and friendly staff. Outrageously clean. Absolutely excellent location in the middle of the "old town". It's walking distance from the train station with luggage, maybe 10 minutes if you stop and take photos (but make sure to walk down the opposite side of the river which has no stairs and the least cobblestones). We had room 519 top floor with river view. The sloped ceilings and dormer window on the top floor were charming. If you open the window it is noisy because there are people and cars on the riverside but if you keep the window shut there is no noise at all. Very quiet. The view is great. They left us fruit each day, nice touch. They have a makeup mirror which doubles as a nightlight which was really appreciated as, like most hotel bathrooms, this one had no windows. Other hotels in Switzerland gave us a free bus/tram pass. This one doesn't. But they do provide free breakfast which the others didn't and the breakfast is terrific. Food prices being astronomical in Switzerland, the free breakfast is worth more than the bus pass. I would definitely stay here again. We loved this hotel. Ask for the history of the hotel, it's a fun read.

Yelp
Hotel Storchen- I die! It's so wonderful in so many ways. It's perfect, but not pretentious; cozy and classy and chic- all at once. Service: fantastic. Location: center of luxury heaven. Our room was a huge corner joint opening up to the square and water. The beds- I'm still dreaming of those beds. In the good ol' USA we are not smart enough to realize that every bed should be a double-adjustable Tempurpedic. Then, the food may have been the best part: complimentary breakfast buffet (fresh fruits, cheeses, salmon, eggs, pancakes, honeycomb, belinis!! They really should have kicked me out after I tried to sneak some caviar and champagne back to my room, but no. They offered to help me. Damn, those Swiss are good!); upstairs upscale dining for dinner (get the potatoes and sausage), and a lovely bar with cocktails, couches and a roaring fireplace downstairs. Gutnagen, indeed! I will never stay anywhere else.
