Hands down the absolute best hospitality, most thoughtful and gracious, go the extra mile considerate and generous service of any 5 star hotel I've ever stayed. Unbelievably personalized service I've ever had--it was our wedding anniversary, which because my husband had mentioned to them, they had strewn fresh deep scarlet rose petals in the shape of a heart, mini chocolates and champagne, flowers everywhere, anniversary wishes. When we thanked them and told them we don't drink alcohol, they genuinely looked disappointed, and asked us what else we'd like. I must confess: I was so touched and moved, I started crying, because come on, how often do we get treated with such absolute humble generosity? And from an establishment no less? The room itself was gorgeous, with a river view, pristine white with touches of red everywhere, romantic and then some. I wish I'd taken photos, because no hotel has ever gone to such lengths for us. The bed linens . . . I've no idea how many thousands of thread count in those sheets, and did I mention the pillow menu, all types of densities and sizes, To pick us up from the airport, they'd sent over an S Class -, allowed us to check out a bit late and held onto to our luggage for several hours while we did some errands. Their breakfast to swoon over: a massive fresh tray of honeycomb, personal silver coffee pots with hot cream, all manners of pastries and breads, eggs, fruits and the like. This was no simple continental breakfast, with all types of sausages, bacon, many types of cheese and yogurt, this was an all out full on banquet and feast. The dining room genteel and old world overlooking the lake, crystal chandeliers and white tablecloths. It felt like something out of a fairytale, an idyllic setting and beyond all this opulence, it was the warmth and sweetness of the staff, their genuine wish and desire to make our stay special--this is the true mark of a world class hotel. When we checked out, they gifted us with swiss chocolates and a complimentary little stuffed stork :-) The exterior of the hotel did not clue me into the riches to come, the facade is relatively simple, but the instant we walked in, and we breathed in their willingness to please, their excitement to have us stay with them--Wow wow wow--I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, centrally located, walking distance to everything and not farther than 20 minutes from the airport--though there are larger places to stay, I doubt there's a greater boutique hotel in Zurich, especially one offering a personalized and intimate feel. If I had to sum up the hallmark of the Storchen it would be: service. Who else and why else would an institution take the time to pluck dozens and dozens of rose petals so they can arrange them in a HEART shape on your bed upon arrival? There's no other word for this other than love. I felt loved, and never saw it coming. Thank-you, Storchen--keep up your astonishing work.
