"Stravros Niarchos Foundation The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC)—new home for both the National Library and National Opera, designed by Renzo Piano and financed to the tune of €630 million—is a wonder to look at, walk through, and relax in. The library and opera are state of the art; the 42-acre grounds include a salt-water canal where you can learn to sail or kayak, fantastic playgrounds and fountains to keep kids entertained, and the Great Lawn where free concerts, open-air screenings and festivals are staged year-round. Take advantage of the center's location and drink in the 360-degree views of the city and sea from the Lighthouse, a glass-walled lookout and terrace shaded by a vast solar panel that powers most of the sustainably minded complex. This neighborhood is, after all, called Kallithea, which means "wonderful view."

3 Days in Athens, Greece

"Alternatively, dedicate your final day to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center near the Bay of Faliro, where you can do pilates on the Versailles-inspired Great Lawn of Stavros Niarchos Park, watch a ballet in the 1,400-seat main hall, catch the Greek National Opera, or even hole up in the brand new National Library of Greece—all within a sleek, Renzo Piano–designed modernist building. (Just this month, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center became the first U.S. group to perform there.) Bonus: Visitors can rent bikes to ride around the cultural center’s massive park between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m."

A great addition to the Athens cultural scene - and the coastline too. Marvelous park, stunning architecture. The National Library space is very welcoming, with plenty of natural light, and it was so wonderful to see it very busy. The 'living room' upstairs offers a great relaxing space with a variety of interesting books and amazing views of the city and the sea. Absolutely worth a visit!

The most amazing place with dazzling views of the city. Don't miss this stop in Athens. Love the beautiful architecture and library, fascinating exhibits, gorgeous garden, and stunning performances in the piano room. The music, fountain, and light show is a real treat. It's a delight to spend time there.

An architectural milestone located in Faliron, Athens. The planted olive trees match the environment of Greece and from this location one has view of the sea. This area is used for events, book reading or simply walking. It is recommended also in summer months especially at night. What makes the building special is the modern architecture and the coherence of the design something rare in modern Greek buildings.

Best Panoramic Views in Athens? Modern Athens & Breathtaking Views – A Must-See! Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is one of the most impressive places in Athens – a modern cultural hub that combines stunning architecture, green spaces, and some of the best panoramic views over the city and the sea. Designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano, this space brings together the National Library of Greece, the Greek National Opera, and an expansive public park. It’s perfect for a quiet walk, enjoying the view from the rooftop terrace, or just relaxing with friends and family. The project also focuses on sustainability, with solar panels, natural ventilation, and water-saving systems. Whether you’re a culture lover, nature seeker, or view-chaser – this place is a must-visit in Athens!

We had such a memorable day at the SNFCC — truly one of the best spots in Athens for families, culture lovers, and anyone who appreciates beautiful spaces. My kids were thrilled with the wide open park areas, interactive fountains, and bike paths. There’s plenty of space to run around and play safely, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. One of the absolute highlights for me was the National Library of Greece. The space is stunning — especially the “Book Castle,” a massive glass tower filled with books that feels like something out of a movie. The reading areas are quiet, modern, and full of natural light, with panoramic views of the sea from the top floor. I could’ve spent hours there just reading or taking in the view. We ended our visit with a coffee by the canal and watched the sunset — it was the perfect end to a perfect day. Whether you’re with kids, on your own, or visiting Athens for the first time, this place is a must. It offers nature, culture, and peace all in one. We’ll definitely be back!

I love the events this foundation organizes and how it brings people together. There is always something interesting and creative happening. It's a beautiful area, spacious, modern, pleasant and friendly. This time I visited the Opera House which is beautiful with comfortable seats and...very red, to my liking! Great sound as expected. Food: the salad at the Opera House restaurant was a good portion, a nice idea but kind of a poor execution, as it was dry, so 3/5; the drinks however, great! 5/5. There were people around the canal taking out their dogs for a walk, friendly and ready to socialize, because this place brings joy, entertainment and relaxation to the people of our busy, overcrowded city. It's unique! One last thing, for such a beautiful, forward entertainment center, the street signs for the drivers to get there are either too small and hard to read or too close to the relevant turn; it gets confusing closer to the establishment. Big clear signs should indicate the route especially around the Center. It sounds relatively unimportant, but to me, it's indicative of a few irresponsible locals being negative and unprofessional towards such a beautiful establishment. To finish on a good note, this is a fantastic place to visit all year round, with its ever enriching, creative, interesting and entertaining cultural program.
