"A Gorgeous Church and Fountain Combination Built in the Gothic Revival style, many locals feel that this is Copenhagen 's most elegant church. With its multi-hued design, sharp lines, and picturesque location overlooking Kastellet's moat the "English Church" can be quite enchanting. Situated immediately next to the church is the Gefion fountain which depicts the Gefjun (Norse mythology) riding in a chariot pulled by giant animals. Designed by Anders Bundgaard, the fountain is dramatic and features spraying water which leaves you feeling as though Gefjun is in motion while in the midst of a raging stream."

Yelp
"Every man's life is a fairy tale, written by God's fingers..." - Hans Christian Andersen The "English Church" is what Dane's call St Alban's Anglican Church in København, Denmark. On my way to a photo shoot near Den lille Havfrue (the Little Mermaid Statue) I stumbled across this charming old church built in Gothic Revival style. The "English Church" was not on my A-list on this visit to the ancient city built by the mighty Vikings. As I approached it became even more surreal as the giant Gefion Fountain in honor of a Viking Goddess greeted me. The courtyard also displayed many prominent figures from mythology. Grasp this for a second... a Christian Church seemingly protected by Norse folklore and mythology? Simply breathtaking! Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to attend Church service or explore the interior (which I tend to do) due to my schedule. However, I did manage to soak in the ambiance and spirituality of the surroundings. Danish windmills and old military barracks scatter. And of course, the surreal scene of the giant Gefion Fountain with the "English Church" as a backdrop will live in my memories forever. In the end, I highly recommend a visit to St Alban's Anglican Church if in København. Discover it on the way to Den lille Havfrue! You don't have to be versed in the Anglican Order to appreciate the rich history of the "English Church". The Christian and Pagan contradictions in it's symbiotic architecture was such a beautiful site to me. One of the more unusual grounds I have been blessed to walk...

Yelp
St. Alban's (aka the English) Church, was built from 1885 to 1887 for the benefit of the growing English congregation within Copenhagen. Gayle and I took good and admiring look at this Gothic Revival-style English parish church (both inside and out) during our walking tour on the day that we were in the City. Also enjoyable was it's peaceful park setting and on the way to seeing the Little Mermaid and the Polar Bear with Cubs statues.

Yelp
Beautiful church with lots of character and great service. There were women at the door handing us information about the church, a place for you to pay for you to light a candle and pray, and beautiful information about the intricate designs in the church. I loved the outside of it, but the inside is what made it so different from any other church. I felt at peace here and I stayed for almost an hour, just praying and being in the house of God.

Yelp
I'm not sure whether the church is open during winter, the doors were open but I was quickly kicked out due to a mass commencing. The outside of the church was pretty though.

Yelp
A cute church on your way to the little mermaid. You can't really miss it! It's been always closed when I ve been passing by making me very curious to visit it. Today it was open and I had the pleasure to see the interior. The church has been dedicated to Alban, an English martyr and has been built for the English community in Copenhagen. In the church there was a lovely lady who asked us where we were from and gave us a description in our own language (Greek) to read! Wow! After our little visit we left few coins for the church and the lady gave us a postcard. So cute! She said to us the church is usually always open in summer time. So keep that in mind! There is also an internet site to keep track on events and services if you re interested. What made an impression on me was that the ceiling was wooden. I had never seen before a wooden ceiling in a church.
