This lively bi-level spot serves up Detroit-style square pizzas with inventive toppings, along with tasty burgers and salads, all in a casual atmosphere.
"Holding a fundraiser at SPG in SoMa, featuring pizzas and a special dish, with all revenue going toward Slice Out Hunger." - Dianne de Guzman
"These guys are best known for their Detroit-style pizzas, now available on both sides of the bay. But they’re also big on fried chicken with an offering of solid wings, including Szechuan, Buffalo, lemon pepper, and plain. There’s something to be said for being able to order good pizza and wings together — what a beautiful bromance." - Dianne de Guzman, Paolo Bicchieri, Eater Staff
"Our favorite SF spot for Detroit-style pizza just opened its first location in the East Bay. You can find their crispy, cheesy square pizzas in Old Oakland, where they’re serving the same menu as their original location in SoMa. You can get your pies topped with everything from pepperoni to bacon and tomatoes to a mushroom medley - just be sure to get their trio of excellent dipping sauces (ranch, cilantro crema, and their special SPG sauce) on the side. If you’re still hungry, you can also order hot chicken sandwiches from Square Pie Guys’ virtual restaurant, Hetchy’s Hots." - team infatuation
"Square Pie Guys in SoMa (and Ghirardelli Square) is making some of the city’s best rectangular-shaped pizzas. Each one is small but mighty—8x10 and serves 1 to 2 people. The thick but light crust has cheddar baked on the outside giving a cheesy crunch to every bite. And the presentation of pepperoni cups and other toppings like garlic ricotta cream and hot honey is a work of art. Square Pie Guys is also very casual, which is why you’ll find chicken wings, salads, and fries, and a well-oiled takeout operation. " - julia chen 1, lani conway
"The Detroit-style pizzas from the Square Pie Guys are San Francisco royalty, and we'd do anything (including going up and down Mount Tam five times in a morning) to get The 6x8 with the curled-up pepperoni cups. But don't overlook the Szechuan dry-fried chicken wings. Well-spiced, salty, and spicy, these wings come with a creamy cilantro lime sauce you'll want to put on everything—including on top of the 6x8, obviously.
