Nestled in a Victorian building, this vibrant art gallery in South London showcases cutting-edge exhibitions and features a bustling café and eclectic bookshop.
"SLG is internationally renowned gallery. In 1995 it was host to the Minky Manky art show featuring Tracey Emin’s Everybody I’ve Ever Slept With alongside work by Sarah Lucas, Damien Hirst and Gilbert & George. More recently SLG have featured solo shows by renowned artists including Ellen Gallagher, Gabriel Kuri and Oscar Murillo. In addition to the main gallery space, SLG also has an ongoing artists residency programme and is in the process of fundraising to transform the old Peckham Road Fire Station building (across the road) into a cultural centre. Check out the bookshop on the ground floor which has a great selection of art, design books and independent magazines." - Studio A4 E+F
"As somewhat cultured pervs we’re generally on board with any exhibition that states ‘please note, these paintings contain nudity’. But in the case of the Christina Quarles: In Likeness exhibition at the South London Gallery we can merrily state that her collection of abstract, large-scale nudes are genuinely empowering and packed full of bright colours that will make you feel all the feelings. Once you’ve done some proficient head-tilting and intrigued arm-folding in Camberwell, head for Brixton Village’s Best Bites of Brixton food festival for everything from jerk chicken to big burgers. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"Somewhat off the beaten path, the South London Gallery is in a stretch of South London—straddling Camberwell and Peckham—that is known for pushing the envelope. It’s a multifunctional space that has created a community with its interactive programs (for adults and kids), a garden, and an excellent café that’s reliably packed with creative types and local mums tucking into baked eggs. After coffee, wander into the shop for a great selection of books, magazines, jewelry, and ceramics from local artisans. "
