Took me three tries, but *finally* got to the flower market in COVID times! This place is an old fave and it was lovely to walk around and look at the flowers for a while. I've been wanting some dried flowers for fall, and if you're into that sort of thing, I feel like the market has more now than ever before. I snagged some super pretty ones from Sunrise Wholesale Flowers and love how they look at my house! It ran me about $30 for a big handful of them--not the cheapest ever, but certainly less than at a boutique-y type place or even on Etsy.
If you don't read anything else in this review, read this: do NOT visit on the weekend. My first try here was on a Saturday which was absolutely a no-go. There was a line out the door and nowhere to park, so I peaced out and tried again the next week. That time I was too late (poor planning on my part, they close at noon each day). I finally made it in yesterday with an hour until close time. Be sure to bring $2 cash (preferably small bills as they weren't able to break my $20, but a very nice vendor was able to for me).
Masks and distancing were enforced for the most part, although there was a stubborn lady who wore her mask below her nose and pulled it down to talk and nothing was said to her. I'm sure it's a tricky situation as the vendors are there to sell and security can only do so much. It's essentially an open air market which did ease my concerns a bit, but thought I should mention it if you're nervous about that sort of thing.
The one major downside: parking is a total nightmare. It's mostly limited to street parking and you'll probably have to circle and/or park a ways away. Unfortunately due to the year we're having, DTLA has also seen a major increase in homelessness and encampments--everyone I interacted with was kind, just something to be mindful of when parking. The whole flower district is a very LA experience that everyone should have at least once, so don't let the parking deter you. Check it out!
