Snæfellsnes

This was nice but not one of my Iceland highlights. It’s a day trip from Reykjavik and is a prime destination for tourist buses. The biggest problem is there are so many people dumped into a quiet and serene spot. The bus riders are often oblivious to things around them, doing stupid stuff like grabbing photos in the middle of the highway or congregating in the middle of access to a site. The area is pretty but I’d skip it and continue Dow The ring road. In retrospect I wish I’d spent time on the west fjords

A beautiful, stunning, national park. From the mountains to the ocean, it's all beautiful. If it's clear out you can see the snow-capped mountains and the glaciers. Go for a drive in the park and stop occasionally, it has some absolutely beautiful photography moments and it's very scenic. I'd love to go back during the winter and see how different it is than the summer.

Worth a full days trip from Reykjavik, for example with Reykjavik Excursions. The land is house to many birds and geological formations. Beautiful cliffs, rigid sea shores, black beaches, seals and so on. I strongly recommend to drive around the peninsula and dive into Icelands mind-blowing nature.

Oh! What can I say about this beauty! We went there after fresh snow and it was an absolute delight. There are acoustic caves which we hoped to visit but couldn’t because of the snow, but the sound of the fresh snow being crunched under our boots and the chill weather with beautiful scenery just filled our hearts with delight. Take your dslr cameras along, drive an awd and eat at the nearby arnarstapi eateries, you can check out my reviews for that separately.

Beautiful place to visit but if the weather isn’t working in your favor it will reduce your experience a lot. Cloud coverage and wind were a huge problem the day that I went. I don’t mind the rain but when your going to see mountains cloud coverage is not ideal. Also trying to view the coast of a peninsula is very hard in extreme wind. Still lots of pretty views though.

Great day out, amazing scenery and saw seals too. Windy day but worth it for the fantastic views and black beach.

The entire peninsula of Snaefellsnes is an amazing attraction requiring at least a full day. It's located some 2 hours drive northwest from Reykjavik, however, I suggest lodging somewhere on the peninsula in order not to waist time driving from/to capital. We stayed in a countryside lodge (Kirkjufell Guesthouse - very good) close to town of Grundarfjordur and started our day before dawn at 7.30 PM. Snaefellsnes is nicknamed "Small Iceland" as around it you'll see all main features of this amazing country: waterfalls, mountain peaks, glaciers, lighthouses, black sand beaches, isolated churches in the middle of nowhere, volcanoes,... Get up early and start your drive. Main attractions are: - Snaefellsjokul NP with its volcano and glacier, - Kirkjufell Mountain (one of the most photographed on entire island), - Kirkjufellfoss waterfalls, - Saxholl Crater, - Djupalonssandur black sand beach, - Londranga basalt stones emerging from the ocean, - Hellnar and Arnarstapi villages, - Gatklettur and Stone Bridge cliffside formations, - Budakirkja black Church, - Bjarnarfoss waterfall, - in between the above many amazing nature scenery and small villages

Grand and diverse nature scenery. Can see horse. Hard to find bathroom. There’s one at the tourist info.
