"Breathtaking Skógafoss Waterfall On our way from Selfoss to Vik, we passed this gorgeous waterfall called Skógafoss cascading over towering cliffs that used to make up Iceland 's coastline. Long ago the coastline receded towards the sea about 3.1 miles but the former sea cliffs remained, combining with the mountains around them to form a natural dividing line between the coastal lowlands below and the rural highlands above. Skógafoss Waterfall is one of Iceland 's largest, over 80 feet wide and 200 feet tall. If you look closely, you can see from this photo how large the falls are by how tiny the people in the foreground look. Because of its size, the waterfall produces a lot of spray, and on sunny days you're often treated to at least a single rainbow, often a double one. But that same spray can be a shocking surprise when it hits your face on a frigid winter day. If you feel like an added adventure, you can hike a trail up the eastern side of the waterfall all the way to the top for a different perspective of the falls, although that's not recommended during the winter months when the trail is icy and slick. Although I've never seen Skógafoss Waterfall in the summer and imagine it's stunning when surrounded by lush green grass, it's absolutely amazing during the winter when snow and ice adds to its drama. I definitely recommend a trip to Skógafoss Waterfall, a convenient stop just off the road if you're heading to Vik from Selfoss."
"The Skógarfoss waterfall is mentioned as a place where you can imagine your recorded scream echoing. Known for its natural beauty, this iconic Icelandic site offers a stunning location that can help individuals envision future travels once the pandemic restrictions are lifted."
The waterfall itself is stunning, and there's a beautiful, long hike along the river for those who want to explore further. It's definitely a tourist hot spot, but surprisingly, few people go past the initial waterfall, leaving a wonderful, secluded area to enjoy.

Easily accessible from a parking lot. One of the most beautiful and most popular places in Iceland. Nice view of the waterfall from upstairs only accessible in the summer, very slippery and dangerous in the winter.

Skógafoss tumbles majestically 60 m down into a misty plunge pool, spanning 25 m of sheer basalt cliff. Hiker‑friendly stairs lead above for panoramic views, and sunlight often dances as rainbows in the spray.

Absolutely stunning, gorgeous waterfall, most amazing waterfall I have ever been to. Walking under it was an unreal experience I will never forget! You'll get wet, be sure to bring a raincoat! Highly recommend going here, it'll be a life changing experience. If you're a nature lover, be sure to add this to your bucket list!

Although it’s not as grand and dramatic as Gullfoss, Skógafoss is still a powerful and stunning waterfall that deserves a visit. The 15-minute climb up to the top is aerobically challenging, but the panoramic view is breathtakingly beautiful and worthy of every step. Due to its immense popularity, the parking lot fills up fast, and you will have to navigate patiently through the throngs of tourist groups to capture photos and videos without people.

One of the greatest waterfalls for me. Can be visited in 10pm in the summer days. A little windy. Waterproof clothes are good to have when you visit it. Heard about this waterfall from the History channel's series Vikings and was in my to do list from a long time 😀.

Must visit. Bring water proof clothes. May be another set to change. My ‘waterproof’ pants gave in and it was moist, luckily was carrying my backpack to change.
The waterproof boots worked fine, but water does sip in from the top.

Skógafoss is a stunning waterfall. The path to the top is steep but fun, and from above the views are incredibly bright and green. It feels almost unreal. I even randomly saw some Norwegian bloggers filming there, which made the moment even more surreal.
