Skálakot Hotel

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to spend a night at the lovely Skalakot Manor Hotel. We went there as part of a bespoke tour with Iceland Luxury Tours. They booked us in this hotel, probably because we wanted to meet some Icelandic horses, which we had the chance to do at this hotel.||||We stayed in a very charming Grand Double room with a balcony. I wish we'd had better weather, so we could have enjoyed the views of grazing mares and foals in the pasture in front of us. We had everything we needed in our room, which was nicely decorated and comfortable. ||||As we only stayed one night, we didn't get a chance to try out the spa, but we did have dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The food was excellent and served with style. I especially remember enjoying the coffee at breakfast.||||But the highlight of our stay was, of course, the horses, who were very sweet and beautiful. It was such a treat to get to watch them and offer a few pets. It made me miss having a horse of my own. I wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe we'll have another chance to visit, and we'll bring the sun with us.

We stayed for 4 nights 5 days at Skálakot hotel. The staff was so incredibly friendly and fun to talk too. By the end of our stay we felt like we’d made new life long friends. Checking in and out was a breeze. There is virtually no ambient light in the area so it made for amazing star gazing and aurora watching. The atmosphere is still an active Icelandic horse ranch and the ranchers would come ever morning to work with the horses. They actively encouraged people to interact and pet the horses but not feed them since their diets are very strictly monitored. The hotel puts you a very reasonable drive to multiple waterfalls, the town of Vik, and things like the black sand beach and glaciers. The entire area is a visual experience and if you are inclined, has a plethora of hiking opportunities. Can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is simply amazing due to the staff there.

Charming inn with wonderful food and great service in a beautiful setting against the mountains. We had a large room on the second floor with a sitting area. It was very comfortable. The breakfast and dinners are served in the main areas downstairs and the food was terrific. Beautiful breakfast spread, plus eggs and other hot food made to order. Dinners were delicious as well and it was a lovely setting looking out over the fields and the Icelandic horses. Highly recommend!

Had a lovely wedding there. Wonderful people, nice rooms, food was amazing! We even saw some northern lights and they turned the outside lights off so we could see them better. Would love to visit again! Our favorite hotel in Iceland.

My son was married in Iceland and we all stayed at the Skalakot Manor. I have never seen a more beautiful hotel. The rooms were roomy and comfortable. The view from my balcony was amazing. And the staff was beyond helpful. Especially Alina! Wonderful experience!!

The Skalakot was our favorite stay during our Iceland travels. The manor is beautiful and we loved the food. We did a horseback riding tour during our stay and went to the spa - both were great! Shout out to Yietti who did our horseback tour and was wonderful! All of the staff at the hotel was very friendly, too. Our room was on the first floor, I would have preferred to be upstairs but no big deal, it was still a lovely room.

Beautifully set under the mountains and very close driving distance to some major viewing sites. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Had a nice supper here, and many guests were taking advantage of the sauna/hot tub in the evening (note: not included, must pay extra). The breakfast that was included with our stay was fantastic, nice assortment of cheeses, breads, fruits and even smoked salmon. Would highly recommend this as a stopping place for 1-2 nights. Our time here was short but well enjoyed.

We photographed a wonderful wedding here in 2023 and were very fortunate our lovely couple also booked us in to stay whilst photographing their wedding in Iceland. I feel compelled to leave a review as this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated, and the staff were wonderful. We brought my 12 year old son to explore with us and the staff could not have been more considerate towards him when we were photographing the wedding! My son was very much enjoying the robe and the room service whilst we worked nearby and the staff kept asking if they could take him anything, and making sure he was comfortable. The food here was exceptional and we would definitely stay again when in the area. We are fortunate to travel to Iceland to photograph weddings semi-regularly, and would definitely choose Skalakot for our next trip. The location is also perfect for those exploring the South of Iceland. Sadly we did not have time to use the Spa facilities but some wedding guests did and very much enjoyed them.
