Skálakot Hotel

Absolutely wonderful hotel! Cosy and intimate - it was the perfect Icelandic stay! The hosts were so welcoming and it was warm and cosy. The food was wonderful - the breads were a nice touch. Rooms were immaculately clean, really comfy bed, and lovely toiletries. Breakfast is continental with no cooked option - but pastries are fresh and delicious and pancakes are available. The only pointer would be … please do not charge extra for the sauna and hot tub - it’s not worth the extra but would be a nice added touch! Maybe just up your prices by £10. Charging for this cheapens a wonderful place.

An incredible place! The staff was accommodating and kind. The food was delicious… highly recommend the French onion soup! Kids menu was perfect too! The horseback riding was lovely and the views were incredible! The drive to Vik, while about 40 min in length never felt long because the landscape was so beautiful! The spa was lovely and the massage with Jakub was excellent! The rooms are beautiful and cozy and the upstairs area was lovely to play some games with a creative cocktail or tasty Icelandic beer! The Aurora came out in full force on our final night too! All around amazing! Shout out to Juli who made my children feel so welcomed and greeted us with a huge smile at every turn!

This hotel was wonderful!! Wish we stayed here multiple nights during our stay on the south coast! Dinner was a bit fancy for us but really good. Our daughter enjoyed the kids Alfredo. Breakfast was amazing as well! Room was super comfy.||We stayed Oct 31st & we got to see the northern lights when we were here & our daughter experienced her first horseback ride, which I’m very thankful they offered this experience for her. I used the Aurora app for the lights & warned me when it was going to happen within the hour & it did. The dogs on the property were so nice as well!

A Perfect Stay at Skálakot Hotel! We had an amazing time at Skálakot Hotel. The establishment is impeccably clean and exudes a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is incredibly professional, always smiling, and attentive to every need. The facilities are top-notch: the sauna and hot tub are perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The food is another highlight, with delicious and well-prepared dishes. Additionally, the hotel’s location, far from any light pollution, makes it an ideal spot to witness the breathtaking Northern Lights. A magical experience in every way. We’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful location, amazing staff! Very friendly, accommodating and over all an amazing experience! The chef Andrey deserves a separate mention! Each one of his creations was delicious, beautiful and made with love. He was even able to made custom made cake for us! 😍

We had a great horse ride down to the beach, the guide was so helpful and the scenery was amazing! I wish we had spent more time on the beach, but it was still a wonderful time!

We had a wonderful one night stay here in July during our travels around the island. It was so charming, warm and welcoming, I would have liked to stay longer to be able to fully enjoy all it has to offer (we did not use the spa). We did a horseback ride in the afternoon, which was magical. Only thing that could have made it better would be if it wasn’t drizzling the entire time, but, we had rain gear and that did not hamper our experience. The horses were very mild and we crossed the river on our way back, which was a treat. Our guide was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were superb. Service was very good.

We stayed for 4 nights 5 days at Skálakot hotel. The staff was so incredibly friendly and fun to talk too. By the end of our stay we felt like we’d made new life long friends. Checking in and out was a breeze. There is virtually no ambient light in the area so it made for amazing star gazing and aurora watching. The atmosphere is still an active Icelandic horse ranch and the ranchers would come ever morning to work with the horses. They actively encouraged people to interact and pet the horses but not feed them since their diets are very strictly monitored. The hotel puts you a very reasonable drive to multiple waterfalls, the town of Vik, and things like the black sand beach and glaciers. The entire area is a visual experience and if you are inclined, has a plethora of hiking opportunities. Can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is simply amazing due to the staff there.
