This pains me to write, mainly because I've been to the Shelborne 3 times. The first two with my fiancé, were great. It has its flaws but we always had a great time.
Unfortunately- I took some girlfriends to Miami with me for a weekend and we had much less of a positive experience. I will say - the pool and service at said pool are great, same for the beach. We did see 2 cockroaches on the beach climbing up a different beach chair, which was spooky, but its a damp climate so it is what is.
Room service and cleaning staff also great and very attentive for the record - nothing but appreciation for them!
When we arrived, we were there 2 hours prior to check in. The front desk woman asked if we would pay $100 to check in early, we were going to decline (might as well Stowe our luggage and go to lunch, no need to blow $100 for no reason) but she stopped us in our tracks. She said if we wrote positive reviews on Trip advisor she'd let us check in early for free. I thought that was... odd. That's never happened to me at The Shelborne before and I was surprised. But since I've had positive experiences in the past, I did it.
Within the first few hours of the being at the hotel- We decided to change and go to the beach. We were literally changing and a random man came into our room. He was unhappy, upset, mumbling incoherent things to himself.
It was a Shelborne employee, we saw on his shirt, that's how he got into the room. We immediately told him to leave, at least until we changed, he did not. The more we told this man no the further into the room he walked. We were stunned. And extremely confused. He's honestly lucky I realized he was an employee bc I would've pepper sprayed him.
He was pissed saying "wow I can't believe you - I cannot believe it. This is ridiculous move out of my way" we had no idea wtf was happening.
Apparently, the folks prior to us had broken the closet door and a rung on the curtain for the window. He was apparently coming to inspect the room, according to the front desk later on.
He apologized once he realized we had just checked in and weren't the ppl who had "broken" the curtain. But still did not leave. It took 5 minutes to get him out of the room. It was honestly bullshit. We told the same front desk clerk what happened and she said the building needed to inspect our room - barely any apology. We felt violated and uncomfortable with the whole situation and they didn't seem to give a damn. It was so jarring and honestly a joke. The fact that a manager was inspecting a room - that was already checked into, a little sus. But to continually walk into a room of changing women who are saying GTFO and talking down to us - what was that ???? Even if we were the guests who damaged the room, this still would be insanely inappropriate. I wish we could've left.
We couldn't find another hotel last minute so we stayed the weekend, we spent most of our time out on the town or at the pool/beach, so it is what it is.
But because of that whole situation - we can confidently say none of us will return to the Shelborne. It's a pitty, pre covid I absolutely loved this place. So disappointed on how we were treated and the lack of care or concern for safety for a group of young women. Go elsewhere.
