Scofflaw is a cozy Logan Square hideaway with a gin-heavy cocktail menu, upscale pub fare, and the irresistible perk of free chocolate chip cookies at midnight.
"Scofflaw’s fireplaces (yes they have two) and living room-esque design is perfect if you don't want to stay home and drink in your living room, but still want to feel like you’re in one. The cocktail list rotates every three months, with a particular focus on gin, like the flowery and herbaceous Heliotrope with gin, lavender, rosemary, and arak. The food menu has an eclectic mix of dishes like pea curry dip and Korean rice cakes, but the cheesy smashburger is the best thing here. Plus, they have free freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies after midnight." - adrian kane, john ringor
"Open until 2am (food until 1am) Friday and Saturday Scofflaw combines two things we love—Happy Hour and late night—to solve the highly specific need for a reasonably priced dinner with drinks in Logan Square after 11pm. Their $26 burger-fries-drink combo is a great deal, considering that the cheesy smashburger arrives on a flowery plate that looks like it came from a Victorian-era estate sale. And contrary to the popular belief that nothing good happens after midnight, Scofflaw offers free fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies if you manage to stick around past 12am." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru
"For being a gin-focused bar, Scofflaw in Logan Square is a damn good place to grab a burger and beer. And the chairs next to one of their two fireplaces are particularly useful for looking enigmatic and moody, and perfect for deterring anyone from interrupting your alone time. They have one burger on the menu (a double cheeseburger) which, as it happens, is delicious. The draft list only has eight beers (again, it’s a gin bar), but they’re usually all from excellent local breweries, or you can always get a classic blue ribbon prize winner for just $3. Plus, the burger is only $15, making this one of the most affordable burger-beer combos on the list. " - john ringor, veda kilaru
"One of Chicago’s most beloved cocktail bars has beefed up its menu with a host of food, from cheesesteaks to scallion pancakes that skew pan-Asian and also serve as ideal drinking food. A butter chicken katsu mixes Anglo-Indian and Japanese flavors, for example." - Eater Staff, Ashok Selvam
"You have questions, Scofflaw has answers, and those answers are cucumber-pureed ice cubes and late night, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Sink into the Victorian armchairs and velvet settees and sip your way through their exquisitely-crafted, gin-focused cocktail menu. Though partial to gin (Old Tom Scofflaw is distilled in house), they do not discriminate against any libation. If bonded bourbon and absinthe is more your speed, try the Plausible Deniability—just treat lightly. The streamlined, rotating food menu features seasonal favorites and beloved standbys: killer meat and cheese plates for carnivores, a veggie-friendly po'boy, and the aforementioned midnight cookie that will perk you up in time for the next round." - Firebelly Design
