Alex caught my eye on YouTube and I've been daydreaming about these donuts since. Unfortunately, I live in New Orleans and I'm not crazy enough to fly for donuts.... Or am I? Turns out I am.
I ordered ahead and got here early on a Wednesday morning, 11/20/24, and was the only one in line. They opened right at 10, had my order ready early and were very friendly. Selena was the best! The place is cute, clean, stylish, and has outlets all over with comfy seating. I saw the fresh hot pizza and got a slice of cheese and pepperoni, absolutely delicious. I'm originally from New Jersey and this pizza slaps. I also had the ice creme latte which was truly delightful!!
Onto the donuts, I tried Dubai, Birthday Cake, Pumpkin Spice, Apple, Maple Pecan, Hazelnut Nutella, Creme Brûlée, and Cannoli. Before I start with the individual reviews I'm going to say they were all delicious!
I like to consider myself a donut connoisseur and you don't go to a donut shop to be treated like royalty, you're buying a donut. They're more expensive because their customer base is growing and they're still hand making their donuts unlike some places. Eventually they may have to get more automated so enjoy the hand made while you can. The time that goes into the creation of these donuts and the creativity is what I appreciate. They're unique, custom, and use authentic ingredients, I can see tons of vanilla bean all throughout. I guess people want the red carpet and $1 donuts that just come out of the fryer and give them a mouth orgasm while someone smiles from ear to ear to be graced by their presence. I get their point in a way, high price for a donut but they're anything but basic and I know I can't get these in my town because I have tried every donut spot. I have good donuts don't get me wrong but what they offer here is just different, it's a unique experience and something most of us won't get every Saturday because we can't. I appreciate the small business, the passion, the love of great donuts, and someone who dares to be different. I don't know them but I know I like them. Alex seems authentic and a hard worker along with her whole team. They make donuts not kiss butt. Go to Philly or NYC and complain about their customer service/attitude and see how that ends for you. Anywho, I'm a nobody and that's my $2 opinion (inflation). If you still care to keep reading onto the donuts:
Pumpkin spice: the real reason I came, it's seasonal. The dough is light, airy, moist, and a pumpkin spice flavor which surprised me. The frosting is sweet and delicious with the pumpkin spice on top very flavorful but a lighter airier texture which is a very nice balance. I love this donut and so glad I ordered two.
Maple Pecan: I am in a maple donut phase and this one is very good and the pecan really nice notch up the flavor. I wanted the maple mummy but I didn't get here in time. I was very satisfied with this donut and it hit my spot. Again a light, airy, moist dough filled with vanilla bean with a slight crisp on the outside.
Birthday Cake: ring donut with same texture and consistency but what surprised me is the icing topping was way lighter than I thought it would be. I expected buttercream cake icing and what I experienced was a less sweet whipped cream consistency. I enjoyed it but I also would have been good with the heavy icing because I have a major sweet tooth. I think it's a good balance for people who don't like overly sweet.
Apple: at first I cut the top off and there was barely any filling but Selena saved the day with bringing some filling to put in there and WOW! I didn't even plan on trying this donut because it's not necessarily my thing but oh my gosh that compote was delicious and the icing and light whipped cream topping was such a delicious balanced flavorful donut.
Dubai donut: I wasn't sure I was going to love this donut but I felt I needed to try it while I was here. It is very good but the pistachio just is never my favorite unless I'm eating them out of the shell. Still a very good donut just not my fav.
Ok I have to admit this is where I was in pain and couldn't eat anymore so I can't honestly give good assessments of the cannoli, creme brûlée, or Nutella. They seemed good but I was not good haha!!!
If you can, try it for yourself. For me, I'm so glad I came!
Update: I brought a big box back to New Orleans for my brother and coworkers and even the next day everyone said they were amazing. I had to put a pizza box inside and fit the donuts all around then ran 2 miles carrying them and flew over 3 hours back, so they didn't look as pretty. I had several half eaten donuts that I couldn't finish and everything is now gone. I'm so glad I got to visit and even share my delicious experience with others.
