Ryuko South - Japanese Kitchen + Bar

Ryuko in South Calgary completely exceeded my expectations, even as someone with a shellfish allergy and a tendency to be picky about seafood-heavy restaurants. From the moment I arrived, the experience was unique—the house-like exterior added a warm and inviting touch to the drive-up. Once inside, I was welcomed with genuine hospitality and seated comfortably. Despite my reservations about seafood-focused menus, the food was absolutely amazing. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, accommodating my allergy without compromising on flavor. The attention to detail and quality ingredients really stood out, making it a dining experience I thoroughly enjoyed. Whether you have dietary concerns or not, I highly recommend Ryuko for its incredible food, welcoming atmosphere, and distinctive charm.

We (group of 3) went to Ryuko the first time today during lunch and had the most memorable & amazing experience! The atmosphere, quality of the food, and exceptional customer service was ALL amazing. Dobby is so friendly, kind, and very thoughtful - we strongly recommend trying the cocktails he makes! 🍹 He is definitely an artist!! All of us had so much fun & really enjoyed our time there. Can't wait to go back to try different menus. 😊

Best omakase we've ever had! Chef Jay is such a talented, personable and attentive chef and each dish was thoughtfully curated with amazing presentation. We felt like friends the staff. The flavours in every dish were delicious. Stacey is such an attentive server and created a friendly atmosphere in the restaurant. We have already come back multiple times in a month because of the high quality food, service, and energy of the restaurant. Highly highly recommend the omakase, especially sitting by the sushi counter!

I had been curious about this restaurant near my home, and I finally visited with friends. It was truly the best lunch experience! Every dish was delicious, but the cocktails were absolutely exceptional. Dobby’s cocktail was incredibly impressive and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be back on Valentine’s Day to try the seasonal cocktails. Thank you so much :)))

As soon as you walk in the atmosphere will blow you away. Ryuko feels like a luxury dining experience but with modest pricing. Service was amazing and of food was top notch. Great for dates and families.

Fantastic experience from the moment we entered. The decor was minimalist and gorgeous. We made a last minute reservation and were seated at the bar which was fab because we got to see the plating of our gorgeous dishes. We had the salmon & hamachi carpaccio, salmon sashimi, spicy goma ramen, tobiko bibimbap, chopped scallop rolls, aburi brant lake wagyu oshizushi and finally, the yuzu pavlova. We enjoyed all the tasty dishes and will return to try the others. My only critique is that the spicy goma ramen needed more punch ;)

It was my first visit to the restaurant, All the food that I tried was so perfect by look also by taste. It taste so fresh. Quick service. Beautiful ambience. Definitely going there more often 😊

I don’t usually do reviews after dining at a restaurant but Ryuko exceeded my expectations and I had to let everyone know!!! The atmosphere when you walked in was very inviting with the most amazing and friendly staff! My friend and I didn’t have a reso but the staff were very accommodating on a busy Friday night. The drinks were amazing and the food came out exceptionally quick! I have nothing but great things to say about the food as well. I’ve been to numerous country with restaurants on the ocean and the freshness of all the ingredients were phenomenal!!! Will definitely be coming back!!
