Rudy's Seafood

Rudy’s Seafood came as a complete surprise on an unplanned little side quest. We knew it was a San Antonio staple, but hadn’t ever tried it before—we’re so glad we did! The first thing we noticed was all of the signature Spurs mural work by my friend, Nik Soupè of Los Otros Murals. That in and of itself makes the place totally iconic. Walking in, we realized the love for our Spurs continues on, wall to wall. The menu is impressive with tons of options, essentially every favorite fried seafood item you can imagine. All the classics, and the prices are decent. The food came out fast and was delicious. Just as expected. And the neighborhood folks are friendly and great for conversation. All in all a wonderful time. My personal favorite part is the main sign over the building. Bearing its founder’s portrait in memoriam, it reads “What began just a dream became a Southside tradition.” Thanks for giving this to us, Rudy, and thanks for sharing your dream.

Nice pricing and tasty treats. Stopped in for lunch with my coworker and was overall impressed by my meal. Things were both plentiful and flavourful

Where do I start... The place has the ambiance of the COVID pandemic. The quality of the food has deteriorated drastically. We paid over $45 for 3 entrees and each one was a disappointment. The shrimp is advertised as jumbo and the oysters as juicy, let me say that neither one hit their mark. The shrimp are medium maybe large at best but that's pushing it. The oyster was a sad display for an entree. The fish's batter was soggy as if the temperature of the oil they used to fry the fish in was on the low side. I don't know if the family that owns the restaurant knows how bad their quality of food has gotten or if they are just turning a blind eye but after that experience I would rather spend my hard earned money at La Playa from now on because I was made to feel as if I was given scraps instead of the type of food that's advertised on their bill boards. Rudy's has lost my confidence and unfortunately my business as well. Potential customers beware and be aware of the other places that serve high quality seafood within a 10 minute drive from Rudy's.

Outstanding service. Greeted and welcomed immediately. Pleasant atmosphere with awesome San Antonio Spurs memorabilia. Cashier/order taker took the time to explain the menu as this was our first visit. Prices are very reasonable. Food was served in a timely fashion. Great fried mushrooms prior to meal. Delicious and plentiful plate of delicious hot fish, fried oysters, stuffed crab, fries and scrumptious homemade hush puppies. Will definitely return. Highly recommend. My wife had the pleasure of taking me to this awesome place on the south side and we enjoyed it together! Man as we were leaving the line was out the door, and I was wondering why? Well, the proof is in the pudding like Grandpa used to say. The fish is great the fries are great all the condiments are available there right at the counter even all the to go things you need are available to the customer. The portions are exceptional especially for two people, heck we even brought leftovers home it was that much. Pricing is reasonable and we definitely will return because I didn't get a chance to have the shrimp! Thanks for this awesome experience!

Love this place, been coming to Rudy’s Seafood for over 40 years since Rudy Ramirez was alive. I love the improvements. Rudy’s Seafood is managed by the wife of the owner which is very nice and very professional. Good job Roland 👏👏👏👏👏 best decision you could ever made. First off they try to hard too sale u as they are South side it's written everywhere. When your real everything speaks for itself. DoesBud Jones ever have too use a south side sales pitch? Truth is that's South town which just south of downtown. The rudeness the works give u is the proof u are not in the south side. Just another restaurant that has forgotten that food is love . They are rude, prices are why too high and small portions.But the hardest is the fake south side sales pitch. No thank you my family will not return. If u want real south side charm go too Bud Jones!!

This place once was so great. The food was amazing, prices were great and customer service was awsome. Now, prices have gone up and are now outrageous. The portion size decreased and the rude cashier lady could use a smile and a hi welcome. 1 piece fish and fries $11! 3 teas $9, Wow. We bought 3 plates all came out to $60. Please do better!

A two-filet dinner comes with cole slaw, fries, tartar sauce, white bread and (the best part) hush puppies! My partner and I could have shared this meal if we had gotten a larger plate. Rudy's is unpretentious: order at the counter, and they'll make your food fresh. A lot of people were getting orders to go, but we sat down and ate there. We had leftovers. I would not recommend the lunch specials because for just a couple dollars more you'll get way more food.

My friends and I recently dined at Rudy's Seafood, and it was a delightful experience. In summary, Rudy's Seafood exceeded our expectations with its delicious food, generous portions, reasonable pricing, and friendly service. We will definitely be returning for another enjoyable meal in the future.

This is my go-to spot after finishing a round of golf at Riverside but since Riverside has been closed for renovations, I decided to stop by anyway to get my fried fish fix (nice use of alliteration there). I picked a good time to stop by as a dinner rush has just finished so there was no wait time to order. I kept it simple with a two-piece fish dinner with fries. The order was ready in about 15 minutes. I decided to dine in so I could enjoy the meal more quality it was still hot and crunchy. The fish was fried a golden brown with a crunchy outside but also moist and tender on the inside the fries were the same. With a little lemon juice and tartar sauce I was elbows deep in the food. Overall, I have never had a bad experience here and now that the golf course is about to reopen, I'll be here more often. Salud!

31 Jan 2014 My first review was written eleven years ago! Damn, where has the time gone? Anyway, we go today. Get there about 3:15pm. Lunch ends at 3pm, so we just missed those deals. Pretty good deals, too. All deals about $12, includes your drink. We ordered : me, the two filet, three oyster and two shrimp plate. Still served with fries, hush puppies, two slices of white bread and the 'sample cup' of Cole slaw. The husband ordered the two filet and two shrimp plate. The food doesn't change and that's a good thing. The shrimp are large and splayed. The filets are a generous size. Tartar sauce and cocktails sauce are available, as are hot sauce, ketchup and lemon juice packets. One lady was taking care of orders and bussing the tables. Doing a great job, while remaining friendly and joking around. We admired each other's short haircuts and how easy they are to maintain. Ha, ha. The outside walls still honor the Spurs. Several TVs on the inside walls. This was a good visit. Go there.

We wanted catfish and saw the good ratings for Rudy's came in and went up to the counter and was looking at the menu as this was my first time here. They did not have any catfish so we decided to give them a try. The lady at the register just said what do we want to order, no greeting I let here know it was our first time and wanted to look at the menu. She walked away. We order the number 2 special, when we got our plate all the food was hot, but the fish was not crispy and very light and had a very funny taste to it. They had Pepsi product but I was okay as I say in the menu they had big red, they were out of big red so was disappointed as I did not like the other drinks, the bread was very soft. The decoration outside are very nice.

SA native and I've never been here before. I was on the southside so I decided to try it and see what the hype was all about. No hype- the fish was bland and had no flavor. The fries and coleslaw were mediocre. The onion rings were good. Will I be back?? Probably not. Was not impressed and it's a little pricey

The fish fries and shrimp are standard and good but I would not recommend their mushrooms or oysters. What got to me was the smell. Not sure if it was the oil but unfortunately I lost my appetite when I took a bite of each.

There is a reason why, a business can survive in hard Covid shutdown times. I recommend this Southside Seafood restaurant for a delicious hot meal. Rudy's has never disappointed any of my visits. You might think it's a little pricey but don't we pay more to seat closer at a Spurs event? My extra few pennies were well spent for this great Seafood.

All of the food I've tried has been served hot, fresh, and delicious. They still follow covid protocols with lines and spacing. Staff wear masks. The to-go plates are packed nicely in paper bags with plenty of tartar sauce and lemon wedges. Each plate is full and leave you feeling full and happy. Bonus, Spurs murals on the building work great for a selfie moment.

A local's fried fish and seafood restaurant that is delicious! Atmosphere is clean, safe, laid back and full of locals that know about this hidden gem. Staff are attentive and great! I first tried Rudy's Seafood as my husband brought me here as he said he enjoyed Rudy's Seafood when he was younger. It has become our local treat when we decide to eat out, ordering the family fish platter with extra tartar sauce! Yum!

I'm looking at the prices and they're 3 years old out of date. Who updates this kind of stuff???

I always went to Rudy's when graving for good fish but not anymore. At my last visit, the fish and shrimp daily special had no flavor and the pieces were much smaller. The servings did not look the same as the pictures on their website. Also the prices were too high for fish at a fast food restaurant. I can pay the same price for a seafood platter at a place that recently moved to Goliad Road.

Food was what I expected. Lots of fried everything. Your order at the counter and they call your name when ready. I had the fish sandwich with onion rings, a side of hush puppies and a side of coleslaw. I had the regular fish sandwich and it was crazy big. I can imagine what the large one looks like. I didn't really think it was anything special. It was a fish sandwich. I had to add tartar sauce for a little flavor. The hush puppies were ok. The coleslaw was probably the best thing I had there. It was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. The onion rings were huge and nicely breaded. When you order, you may definitely believe it's pricy, but keep in mind that the servings are large and can be shared. Looks like they can get real busy. Seating is first come first serve. They have onsite parking and I had no trouble finding a spot on a Saturday night.

Short review. Absolutely the WORST food I've ever eaten! All things that make great fried fish...this place missed...ZERO seasoning, ZERO crisp and dry! Definitely wouldn't recommend or eat! You can't just throw unseasoned food in unseasoned flour and fry in old grease. Oh wait...I guess you can, huh Rudy's! Sorry...

Went there for lunch today to see what the hype was about. The lady behind the counter, Barbara, took my order and said it would take 25 minutes. It looked like they only had one cook! I paid $17 for a shrimp burger and fries and a drink, or so I thought. I looked at my receipt and noticed that it did not include a drink! I paid an additional $3.24 for a drink. After 25 minutes my food was ready. Fries were limp and not fresh. The shrimp burger had no taste. I asked for cocktail sauce and was told I'd have to pay for it. No thank you! They give you tartar sauce but you don't eat shrimp with tartar sauce! This place is all hype! I won't go back. I can get a better meal for lunch at Sea Island and not have to pay for cocktail sauce!

A hole in the wall seafood restaurant but definitely very tasty. The fish and shrimp are always fresh and the prices aren't that bad. Definitely recommend trying this place

This was my first time trying Rudy's seafood and I've always heard so much about it being really good and it was they weren't wrong I got the fish and shrimp daily lunch special for $10.99 and it was pretty good the only thing I think I would have an issue with is the tartar sauce it was a little bit too watery for me I like thicker tartar sauce but other than that everything was pretty good I give it an 8 out of 10

Horrible,fish burger sucked, soggy couldn't find the fish it was so small no flavor, had to throw it away prices to high.

First time going and the older lady wasn't pleasant, must've had a bad day especially after she gave someone the wrong food. I wasn't impressed with the fish and shrimps, it was bland and over priced.

Ordered twice from this place clam chowder is too much flour all i taste is flour also ordered a bread bowls but they just cut up the bread... Also Both times clam chowder is too much flour had to throw it away. Clam chowder from a can is better. Advice i would say just put less flour because you can literally see the chunks its not even soup. Also everything feels like is unseasoned. Taste ur food chef!

Not as good as it use to be, so much plain taste of frozen food. The prices have increased like crazy which is understandable, but quantity has also decreased at same time. Some time old school size plates with higher prices is a easier pill for customers to swallow.

So they will get a four because the staff was super friendly. The fried shrimp was very light in color and bland. The onion rings were pretty good. The rice was well seasoned. There was a steady pace of customers, so it was apparent this is a popular location. The artwork paying homage to the San Antonio Spurs is a great way to represent this restaurant's geographic location. Overall cool experience. The place is clean and organized. They have systems that complement stellar customer service. Would I go back again? Sure, for the onion rings, and perhaps I'll try something different next time.

I recently purchase fish for the funeral gathering of my sister in law , I purchase for 42 , the owner donated for 100 people witch help me a lot, the fish was super good all the family and friends were, so pleased with the food , she gave me extras like 3 bottles of ketchup I mean she went above and beyond, at the end of the day nothing leftover all I heard was compliments and questions where did you get the fish of course I told them Rudy's sea food on " Flores" ,I recommend this place 100% we had over 100 family members and everyone was so happy with the food , June 15 2022 Margarita Esparza Thank you ! Weren't there at 3 o'clock this afternoon I order and nine piece fish And I started eating it and it tastes fishy and smell fishy. There was a lady in back of us had the same problem her fish smell fishy and it tastes fishy.

Use to love this places I don't know if it's still the same but they were sooooooooo good

Real good I love the police they need to keep selling good food. They have very good security. The week wasn't too long the food very good just basis parking though and I can get past it. I would recommend this to everybody.

Rudy's is not only a south San Antonio icon it's a San Antonio staple for good seafood. Loved it as a child and continue to go as an adult. Try it it once and see what you think

I came here to check the DeMar DeRozan's murals on their wall, it was beautifully done, even the little scar near his left eye (I didn't even know he had one) There are other Spurs players on the wall as well, Including Robinson (in the back of the restaurant) If you are a fan of mural arts and is a basketball fan, this is the place to be

Ordered Lunch Special 1 Fish and 2 Shrimp Fish Was Not what I Remembered I did not Like it but Shrimp was Perfect and Coleslaw was Very Good. No Substitute for Coleslaw instead had to eat Limp un tasteful Fries. Older Lady Taking my Order was Not The Most Happy person probably needs To Do Something Else.,

Let's start by saying that Rudy's gets high marks for a clean and tidy facility with an updated interior. They obviously spent time making the place feel well-put-together. The food: I was thoroughly excited, as I'd heard nothing but good things. The fish was lukewarm and under-seasoned. It tasted and smelled healthy, just no seasoning. The fries were unimpressive, yet warm and crunchy. They too needed salt. The shrimp was flayed so it was wide, which is a fine strategy for ensuring it's not over cooked. It was seasoned well. The okra was a 6/10, not mushy, yet not crunchy or crispy enough for the adequate bite and also lacked seasoning. The hush puppies were on the dry side and lacked flavor. I want a seafood-packed hush puppy that's light, moist, and flavorful. The coleslaw was a disappointment: it was old. Yes, old. Mind you, we were there at lunch rush on a weekend. It was obviously from the day before or older. It started to develop that limp look, soggy bite, and slightly unfresh flavor. It sat for long enough for the moisture to escape the cabbage and water down the dressing. I want to give Rudy's another chance because the word-of-mouth praise was high enough to induce salivation at the thought of "delicious, authentic Gulf seafood." Afterthought: Get rid of the styrofoam! Give us some reusable plates, sheets of newspaper-like paper, or anything that's less harmful to the environment, please.

The fish is good, not greasy even when reheated. Proportions are good for the price. Everything tastes fresh.

I had not been in a couple years till today. Unfortunately it was just ok, not the bountiful most delectable fish of yesteryear. I'm ok with paying more but you got to deliver. If I wanted J Anthony food I would have gone to J Anthony. Fries just ok, fish needed that pow that the cod used to deliver.. . I wonder if top quality cod if ant is still used. But willing to give a second chance, we all have a off day.

Ate here for lunch today. We were surprised to see people waiting outside before they even opened. Food was amazing. Only downside is that they no longer offer dine in. All the tables are outdoors.

I recently ordered some seafood from Rudy's, order fish fillets with fries! The food was good, the wait was a bit long and restaurant was a bit small for the number of patrons!

Never been here before. Was recommended by my instructor and classmates. The food was excellent! Batter not too heavy or light, and definitely not greasy. Their stuffed crab was excellent! Will definitely be going back!

Food is always very delicious here. I love shrimp and they are large size shrimp. I call my order in, so I don't have to wait in line, order and wait some more time to get my food. It usually takes from 15-25 minutes to get it ready. By the time I arrive, I just pick up and go. Depending on how busy they get.

The old original rudy's seafood that made it great in the first place is dead and gone and the new but not improved is here to stay. this food is not worth the asking price anymore, the portions are cheap and they charge for extra condiments. dont come here. it is not worth anything anymore. My family just picked up an order, and this review is about the service, not the food, which I'm sure is excellent, only I have to accept the fears associated with the fact that one of the cooks didn't have a mask on and at the same time our mayor is on the radio saying we need to all wear masks in order to help fight the spread of COVID 19. One cook was, the other one right next to him was not and his role was putting the food on the counter - same level as his face. Props to the owners for good signage about requiring masks from guests and respecting social distance, but the staff needs to be on top of that more than the guests.

Dropped by last night and I don't know why this place has gotten such great reviews for its food. In my opinion it's not worth the money. Wife ordered the fried fish, I ordered the chicken fried steak, the fish seemed as if it had freezer burn (looked gray) and it had a bitter almost rancid taste. The chicken fried steak was nothing to brag about, regular chicken fried steak you get at fast food place. Again in my opinion with so many great restaurants in San Antonio to pick from you can do a lot better than this place.

A south side staple that has been around since before I was born. The fish may not be the best in town, but it's the best around. This place is perfect for feeding your whole family. I've seen the line wrap around the corner on Friday during lent. Not too much of a variety but that's what makes this place good at what it does, fried fish.

Big portions. Served immediately so nice and hot. Not a lot of breading on the moist fish filets. Big shrimp and plump oysters. Courteous service with a tip jar. No alcohol. Order at the counter. I'd go back.

We stopped by this real hidden gem of the Southside a few months back. This place has delicious fried fish, shrimp and oysters and the portions are generous as well. It is a menu board style restaurant where you order at a counter and pick up your food when called but the staff is very friendly and helpful if you need anything. This is truly a place to visit if you want tasty seafood. This establishment only displays a 30.07 sign so diners can feel safe while dining.

My first time!! Very impressed with this place. Great customer service, very clean, friendly environment. I liked how the cashier was communicating with us about todays special... which we got. Very filing. 2 pieces of bread, 2 pieces of fish, fries, Serrano pepper, and a drink. I'm definitely gonna have to bring my mom. Delicious food, can't wait to try the fish sandwich next time. They're definitely spur fans & that's a plus!! Go Spurs Go!
