Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles

I was in the area with my husband and thought it would be a good idea to have breakfast at Roscoe’s since I have not been here in years. Although I have eaten here before, I am disappointed in today’s visit since I wanted my husband to love it as much as I did. The mac and cheese was white like a ghost and extremely bland NOTHING like before. The candied yams were not good-all I could see was the butter floating at the top of the bowl which seemed pretty thick. Again, I’ve been here plenty of times in the past which is why I am disappointed in seeing the quality of the food has gone downhill. The waffles were okay-definitely the taste was different but okay. You know when you’ve tasted something before and you try it again and normally it brings back memories. Well this didn’t. Now, the only thing that we were okay with was the fried chicken, and the biscuit w/ gravy-that was good. I am glad at least one or two things were good. Our server was kind and I truly appreciate her help this morning.

On Christmas Eve, my daughter and I visited the Roscoe’s location on West Manchester in Inglewood shortly after landing at LAX that afternoon. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by everyone especially a server named Roy who quickly seated us. The ambiance was wonderful, nice old school music playing, not overly crowded due to the last-minute shoppers being out (they said) and just a down-home type of vibe. We ordered our food and Roy brought it out promptly piping hot! The chicken was EXCELLENT, crispy and nicely seasoned. The waffle was okay, just a nice touch of sweetness. We also had the collard greens and macaroni and cheese (why not, it’s Christmas 😂)…the Mac and cheese was okay, but the greens were AWESOME!! The lemonade/sweet tea combo beverage known as “Lisa’s Delight” was absolutely DELICIOUS!! Roy was so helpful, pleasant and funny…we truly enjoyed him!! It was kinda pricey for the additional sides, but oh well, we enjoyed everything overall. We will definitely come back and visit again!

It's one of my favorite breakfast places in SoCal. The homemade gravy is delicious when you combine it with the chicken and waffle. If you are afraid to try this combination, you have to try it. It is delicious. If I have to say something "negative" about this place, it is that they regularly do not have everything ready for opening time. (800am) Sometimes, the gravy is ready 30-45 minutes after opening, and several times, they don't even have sodas until around 9am. The service is usually very good and they always check tables to make sure you're good or need anything

We waited in a line but not very long. The process seems very well organized. Once we were seated, we were greeted promptly by our server. Our food followed shortly after. The chicken was amazing, the waffle and mac and cheese, not so much. I would return just for the chicken.

Great waffles and chicken is pan fried, something different. Packed, and you have to wait about 20-30 minutes for food. Our server was friendly and polite.

If you've lived in the south, you'll find this to be "ok" chicken and waffles. But it's one of those LA things you should try. Got a 1/4 chicken (breast and thigh) with 2 waffles and a fried egg. Food came out quickly but was not hot, as if it had been made for someone else and sat for a while. Chicken was good, nice size portions. Waffles were fine, very thin, good consistency but not much flavor. Service was friendly if a little slow. They were busy so I don't fault her on that, and did a lot of takeout orders too. Total came to $35 with tip (no drink) which didn't feel like a great deal but I was full when I left and have paid more for less..

You better have an appetite, the portions are large ! The wait staff were friendly and engaging. Great family atmosphere. The food was delicious ! Highly recommend eating here.
