"The owners of La Mercerie, a French restaurant in Soho, have a new bar. The tiny Guild Bar opens today, November 14, in the design store Roman and Williams Guild; it’s owned by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, the same team behind La Mercerie (who also designed Le Coucou). The five-seat bar serves cocktails made with salted pineapple, Sichuan peppercorns, and Madras curry." - Luke Fortney

"COVID-19 update: Open for browsing. Roman and Williams's first brick-and-mortar location spotlights its Founding Collection—furniture, lighting, and accessories created by the husband and wife duo Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch—and collaborations with global artisans, found objects, and antiques. From the glossy custom grey paint to the open shelving showcasing French and Japanese artisan glassware, every detail in the space is considered and exudes the signature striking-meets-livable Roman and Williams style, as seen in spaces like New York's Ace Hotel, San Antonio's Hotel Emma, and Freehand Chicago (Roman and Williams are also the geniuses behind goop Lab's design). Standefer and Alesch wanted the space to reflect the way they live, so they incorporated La Mercerie, an all-day Parisian café and bakery (open until 11 p.m.), and flower shop from "local muse of botany" Emily Thompson. The result is a gorgeously luxurious, utterly authentic space we never want to leave. COVID-19 disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations."

"Roman and Williams Guild, a furniture showroom, café, florist, and home decor shop in one, is the first retail outpost from architecture firm Roman and Williams (the team behind oft-instagrammed restaurant and hotel interiors like Le Coucou and the Freehand). Basically, if you've ever eaten or spent the night in one of the firm's spaces and thought to yourself, "I'd like my house to be more like this," this is the store for you. If you stop in, take a moment to run your hands over the sheepskins draped over the display beds in the back, and to smell the in-house scented candles." - Andrea Whittle

"This was the whole idea behind Roman and Williams Guild, their much buzzed-about concept shop in downtown Manhattan. To curate the selection, they traveled to Copenhagen and Stockholm."

This place is one of the most unique artisan shop/galleries combined with a sophisticated and elegant French restaurant set at the front of the store. The select designer pieces for purchase are exquisite, however, quite pricey. Also, it was curious that all of the showroom tables had many water marks on them as if they hosted a lot of private parties in the showroom.

Absolutely beautiful! Like walking into a museum! The items all hand crafted by the most skilled artist and designers. Chantel, (I'm sorry if I forgot your name) and Kevin are 2 of my new favorite people EVER! Incredible vibe, textures, plants, lighting. I didn't exactly know what to expect when I first went in but it was well above and beyond what i sort of was thinking. The restaurant is a whole other story. I envy those that can afford to shop here! It may be expensive but the quality, the story, is worth it.

The best way to describe this store is as follows. Your aunt from Cote de Provence met your friend from Bali, and they made a life in Madagascar. Each piece is very unique and tells its own story. A story of elegance, culture, and a healthy portfolio. Perfect place to purchase a signature piece or pieces that bring you joy to splurge on.

Absolutely stunning space. I live the dining and retail experience! Gorgeous dining room with a full menu and so much to shop from.

We ordered 6 beautiful Ovo chairs – unfortunately one of them came with some imperfections in the finish (a sharp edge that should be smooth), but RWGuild was not willing to look at or fix the issue we reported upon delivery. It's a shame because the chairs are really well made and beautiful, but it's not the quality control one would expect at furniture at this price point. We were considering ordering more, but are now unlikely to.

Stopped for drinks at this beautiful establishment. Carlos really took care of us and we had great conversation. The pastries taste like they are straight out of a boulangerie from Paris.

Elegant! Great tea! Great little deserts. Pricey. But really cool concept and vibe. The design is incredibly inviting and open. Really love this spot

Yelp
Cute little spot, good small eats, great service, beautiful decor. Quiche was very tasty!

Yelp
This is my favorite place in New York. Ever. When you've been busy frolicking around the city and have been on the move all day, this is the place you can go to drink some tea and just find some time to relax. I can go on and on about their teas, pastries, and furnishings, but I'm here to simply here to say "you must stop by." Every time we are in the city, I try to make time for this place. It's a vibe.

Yelp
This review is for the shop only and not the restaurant side. Beautiful pieces and collection of home decor. I've been eyeing on the Rinka collection for the longest time and wanted to get my hands on some of the ceramics as this is the only place that sold this collection in stores in the US. My friend secretly worked with a worker there to purchase the mugs and saucer and she play along the entire time. We even bumped into her in the street and needless to say she was the sweetest!

Yelp
Loved this chic French housewares place. A bit over priced. But houses special artisan handmade work. Beautiful presentation and lovely restaurant.

Yelp
Beautiful environment, soft music, sitting in it, I feel very happy, the food is delicious, but it is a little expensive, and I will try it next time

Yelp
I always pass this place when I left stadium goods. It reminded me of some restaurants in Paris so I stopped by for lunch. I was seated immediately, but they sat me outside literally with no one else around. After 10 minutes I had to ask someone to get me a waiter. The waiter finally came and also seemed confused as to why I was seated out the way. Felt a little weird, but whatever. I order a bunch of shit and it all lacked flavor. The display was Instagram worthy...but I definitely went to get a slice of pizza after this $200 meal. If you tryna flex definitely go here, if you hungry don't do it unfortunately. No seasoning, no personality, no culture.

Yelp
Sumptuous spot newly opened that's transportative. Both a posh furniture and design store with gorgeous curated items. Beautiful fresh flowers fill the entrance with a lush welcome and soon to open La Mercerie a Parisian feeling day cafe with charming and elegant velvet banquettes serving a little known in the states torteau from age or French cheesecake. Design store open now, cage will serve food mid- January.

Yelp
If you're looking for dining, it's called La Mercerie - Cafe at the Guild. Also this place is awesome, inspired and worth a visit. So much lovely attention to detail!

Yelp
Such a beautiful shop and restaurant. Our server Derek was absolutely amazing with his bright smile and bubbly attitude. The food was superb. The decor and vibe was incredible. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
This review is for the FURNITURE. It's beautiful, but it arrives packaged in the most styrofoam you've ever seen. Much messier home cleanup than purchasing items from the typical Italian manufacturers.

Yelp
How cute is this place? Came in for a latte on a cold morning to start my day with a couple of friends and we couldn't help but wander around the area to see what they had to offer. From flowers to unique home decor, it is definitely worth checking out. The latte was yummy too! Definitely worthy of stopping in to catch a break from the cold winds.

Yelp
I have been following this place on Instagram for quite some time. This place is stunning. Gorgeous home furnishings AND an adorable cafe. A must see! The glassware is beautiful. Very pricey but beautiful.

Yelp
I ordered five pillows and one was defective. I did not notice it for awhile because I was waiting on new furniture that was delayed due to covid. I requested to exchange the one defective pillow, but, the company would not give me an answer. I eventually gave up. Poor customer service for a high end store. I will not do business with companies who don't stand behind their products and don't provide good customer service.

Yelp
I headed to this place after googling a cute inrerior that promised coffee and a relaxing environment. Upon arriving with my friend we quickly realized it was much more of a restaurant environment that was overcrowded. The hostess was very brisk upon seeing us and told us it would be a 45 minute wait. Feeling uncomfortable with her attitude we decided not to stay there and we were not asked if we would like to put our names down. After about 5 minutes of deliberation outside, however, my friend and I decided that if we trekked all the way there, we might as well wait a bit. We went back inside and the hostess asked what we wanted though it should have been obvious. We told we could stand the wait and she "excused"herself to speak with another employee. She came back and claimed that the time had extended until over an hour and ahe still refused to take our names. Perhaps it was the fact that we were wearing casual clothes, I have no idea. But the uninviting atmosphere as well as the hostess's aggression on the matter would assure that I will never return with the way they treat their diners.

Yelp
Aside from a beautiful product, I must commend Roman and Williams Guild for exceptional customer service. Through no fault of their own, the carriers used for delivery, i.e., UPS and FedEx, seriously dropped the ball on delivering an item chosen as a gift. The sales and customer service personnel at the Guild leaned over backward to make this right. I appreciated their efforts and am now a dedicated fan and follower of Roman and Williams Guild. You can shop with them knowing they stand behind their products and service.

Yelp
If I could give them 6 stars I would and the foods not even on the table. This lovely place is impeccably decorated with attention to detail. Very warm and cozy considering the large space it occupies. The bench in which I sat upon was a cozy blue very soft and comphy crushed velvet. I have been following this café since I discovered that they're a café now open to the public! I want to say the lacquered walls are a soft sage but will be back in the day time to appreciate their full color scheme. I had the Rooibos tea, and it was divine. One needs to get here early as most of the pastry was already absorbed by the daily hustle and bustle. Never the less, in a week or so, I was told they will be ready to serve the world their best! I'll be back to make sketches and snap shots for paintings. Their service is wonderful. I immediately felt welcome and waited upon as soon as I was seated! The back room has a vase that carries various twigs and florals leaveing you feeling romantically intertwined in a moment engulfed with NYC!

Yelp
Amazing food! Stunning atmosphere in a design shop in Soho. My grey linen napkin was rendered of such beautiful fabric that I wanted to eat it or take it home.
