Nestled in a cozy, industrial nook of Nashville, Rice Vice is a chic sake bar and brewery offering an impressive selection of local and imported sakes, complemented by a welcoming vibe and occasional food pop-ups.
"Rice Vice, the home base of Proper Sake, is a tasting experience worth sharing with anyone even remotely interested in Japanese rice wine. The cheeky menu has scary-accurate flavor profile descriptions to help you choose (“slightly effervescent bubblegum funk”). If it’s your first time, try the Cloud Palace Nigori, a citrusy-but-not-sweet sake, and know they also have earthier options like the Rice Father #2. Don’t bank on it for dinner since they mainly have snacks, although they do occasionally host pop-ups out front from places like Two Ten Jack and the Fox Den Izakaya. But with sake this good, we can forgive the lack of real food. " - bailey freeman, ann walczak

"Byron Stithem, founder and master brewer of local sake brewery Proper Sake Co., opened up this cozy, 70s-inspired wood-paneled spot in East Nashville where he pours up a robust selection of the sakes he makes on-site. If sake doesn’t strike your fancy, Rice Vice also features Asian lagers, perfectly chilled highballs, and a curated selection of small bites made in collaboration with local restaurants. Be sure to check the Instagram page for upcoming events." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Eater Staff
"Nashville loves a good drink and duly celebrated when Byron Stithem of Proper Sake Co. opened Rice Vice, the city's first sake establishment, which features a '70s-style Japanese bar Stithem hand-built with his father-in-law."
"After five years running his Proper Sake Co., Byron Stithem has opened his first bar at 3109 Ambrose Avenue. A gorgeous East Nashville space serving a revolving selection of sakes brewed onsite, koji beers, highballs, ferments, and food from hot pop-ups like Fox Den Izakaya, Alebrije, and Kisser. Eventually, dumplings will be available on nights when there isn’t a chef pop-up. It’s now open Wednesday through Sunday, 4 to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 1 to 10 p.m. on weekends, with plans to expand hours soon." - Eater Staff
