I had to laugh at those uneducated ignorants complaining that it’s not like Soi 38!! Umm this is Southern Thai cuisine which is completely different to Soi 38 which is Northeastern Thai (Esaan). I’m from the South of Thailand and am thrilled to finally have restaurants specialised in Southern cuisine!! Quality ingredients, flavour and fragrance that is as good as home and very well priced for the quality. Not quite a cheap eat, more on the casual dining. What not to love!!?

Let's address the elephant in the room. This is not Soi38. If you are looking for Soi38, this is not the thai restaurant you're looking for.
If you're still with me, then listen up. This spot being slept on. Hard. Very rarely do I go to a restaurant every week for a month straight, but here we are 💁🏻♂️
Not every dish is a banger, but there are some absolute gems on the menu if you know where to look.
Top picks:
1) Crispy Morning Glory
Definitely the best example of this dish in the CBD. The sauce is lively, rich, zesty, and utterly mouth watering. Thing thai style buffalo sauce with shrimp and fried shallots
2) Stir-Fried Minced Pork Curry
Rice Killer. No filler. Deeply complex and moreish with a great balance of spice.
Bring some friends and go on a culinary adventure. Try some dishes you've never heard of.
Give them a reason to lean into boldness and spice, instead of being a bit timid as to not alienate the basic whiteys.

First day opening today. I come here because been following from Soi38. It’s not many Southern Thai food in the city. I really enjoy the real taste of the curry paste here, spicy and yum. Also beautiful decoration and service. Highly recommend. Will be back soonnnn!!

R.harn is a hidden gem in Melbourne! The homemade shrimp cake was crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. The green curry with beef was rich, aromatic, and paired perfectly with roti. Every dish was well-balanced and delicious. A must-visit for Thai food lovers!

I don’t usually write reviews, but after visiting this restaurant, I felt like I had to share my experience. I’ve traveled to southern Thailand and absolutely love the bold, distinct flavors of the region, so I was curious to see how this place measured up—especially since southern Thai cuisine has been gaining so much popularity lately.
Honestly, I was blown away! The dishes are packed with flavor—rich, spicy, and perfectly balanced. This isn’t the usual Thai food you’ll find in Melbourne, and I’m so glad the Soi 38 team was brave enough to bring something this unique to the city. That said, I think it might take some time for locals to really appreciate and understand these bold southern flavors, but it’s absolutely worth it.
The restaurant’s design is just as striking as the food. The vibrant colors and atmosphere reflect the deep cultural roots of southern Thailand. If you’ve ever been to the far south—where the culture and food share similarities with Malaysia—you’ll feel a connection here.
If you’re craving something authentic and different, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. It’s a real gem, and I’ll definitely be coming back for more!!

Sad writing this but came here because of Soi 38’s team. Soi 38 was authentic, grubby and vibrant and unfortunately this new place completely misses the mark. The food has been dialled back in flavour, i imagine to suit the western palette, they have attempted to modernise the dishes with flashy crockery and tables but just makes it the same as every other Thai restaurant in the suburbs of melbourne. A real shame and no real stand out or wow factor like Soi 38 once pioneered for Thai food in melbourne.
