Where to Find the Best Food in Cartagena, Colombia

"This intimate, must-book restaurant alternates between romantic and lively, with soft lighting, exposed brick, and striking murals that set the stage for a tasting-driven meal celebrating Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The inventive menu showcases the freshest local ingredients; highlights include a shared Caribbean crab that layers bright, coastal flavors and a vividly presented flower salad that’s as much visual art as food. For an authentic local touch, try any drink featuring corozo, a tart regional berry." - Ksenia Prints

"Rank: #49 "Chefs Jaime Rodríguez and Sebastián Pinzón spent years exploring the Caribbean coast of Colombia to perfect their proposition before opening, meeting indigenous people and discovering flavours and ingredients they had no idea existed. They researched techniques and documented recipes that were in danger of being lost in a bid to capture the authentic identity of the region – the research initiative was dubbed Proyecto Caribe Lab."

The 35 Best Restaurants in Cartagena, Colombia | Eater

"Open just over a year, Celele is one of the most successful restaurants in town, earning the Miele One to Watch Award for 2019 on the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Star chefs Jaime Rodríguez and Sebastián Pinzón researched the area for four years before opening their restaurant, using the business as an opportunity to showcase handicrafts from local indigenous and rural communities. They serve a contemporary tasting menu and daily a la carte options, including traditional stew with slices of cured duck, pineapple vinegar, sweet ají peppers, and sour oranges over casabe. For dessert, try the traditional mingui, a puree of cooked plantain and pumpkin served with whipped coconut cream, granola made with local seeds and nuts, and coconut lemonade sorbet. Celele – Cartagena From start to finish, an unforgettable dining experience. The team at Celele is deeply skilled in fermentation and crafting innovative dishes bursting with vibrant, complex flavors — many using local, seasonal ingredients I’d never even encountered before. The plating is a true work of art, but it’s not just about looks — every dish tastes just as incredible as it appears. The service team was outstanding — kind, attentive, and patient, taking time to explain every ingredient, where it was sourced, and how it was prepared. Their passion really shines through and elevates the entire experience. It’s clear why Celele has earned a well-deserved spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for several years in a row. A must-visit in Cartagena.

Extremely enjoyable fine dining experience. I had the pricey taster menu at $145 usd, but as a solo traveler it enabled me to try a bit of all the special dishes. I would recommend Celele as a special treat at the end of your holiday to Cartagena. It’s hard to get a spot so book a couple weeks in advance to not be disappointed.

Wow—Celele absolutely deserves its reputation as one of the best restaurants in the world. We enjoyed the 8-course tasting menu with the drink/wine pairing and it was UNBELIEVABLE from start to finish. Every course was unique, creative, and beautifully presented. My personal favorite was the salad with edible flowers and cashew butter—such an unexpected and delicious combination. The fish dishes, especially the ceviche-style preparations, were outstanding, and the courses featuring crab and chicken were equally impressive. The mix of flavors throughout the night was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Our server, Maria, was wonderful—knowledgeable, attentive, and made the evening feel extra special. To close, we were treated to two amazing desserts and an espresso martini, which was the perfect ending to a truly world-class meal. It’s easy to see why Celele is ranked #48 in the world and #6 in Latin America. And the price? Incredibly reasonable given the quality, creativity, and service—it felt like a bargain for such a top-tier dining experience. Also worth noting: there’s no formal dress code, so you can come as you are and still enjoy a five-star experience without any pretension. Highly, highly recommend Celele when in Cartagena. This is a dining experience you will remember forever.

We had an excellent meal at Celele, the dishes were creative and delicious. Also the cocktails were amazing! We want to drop by another place for drinks but we decided to stay back and try more of their creative concoctions. The only feedback would be that the portion was rather large. Since we were only 2 people, we were not able to try many dishes during our visit. It would be cool if they make a tapas/smaller version of their dishes. But other than that, a superb dinner experience!

One of the most flavorful, beautiful and delicious meals you will ever have. Every dish at Celele is a delight to the senses. I enjoyed every minute of my experience from walking into the cozy space to the beautiful surprise of seeing every dish placed on the table and feeling its symphony of flavors and textures on my tongue. The vegetarian version of their hummus starter was incredible. As was the vegetarian main that includes plantain, pita bread, and various small pickled fruits and vegetables. The arepa is also not to be missed—it might have been my favorite thing. However, I recommend over indexing on the savory and skipping dessert. Neither the goat milk cheesecake nor the tiramisu style cake were particularly pleasant. Interesting and unique flavors for sure. And beautiful plating, but I personally found the rest of what I tried to be significantly better. Service was very friendly if a bit slow. Remember to book in advance

Had an amazing late lunch at Celele. The service was fantastic and the food was excellent. Started with the crab and the flower salad as well as the corn bread with sour cream. Then we had the squid and pork. Possibly the best cooked squid and pork I’ve ever had. Can’t recommend enough. Pricey for the area but actually quite a good deal when compared to spots of similar quality back home.

How good can a salad be? Go to Celele and try the flower salad and find out. Reasonable price for the quality of the food. Only but, we had to wait almost 1h between the starter and the main dish.

Probably the most famous restaurant in Cartagena… and one of the top 50 restaurants in Latin America! Food - 4.5/5 Caribbean Flower Salad - 4.5/5 - This was excellent and one of the most unique and the most beautifully presented dishes I’ve ever seen. It was also very tasty; the dressing was a nice and creamy cashew dressing, and went so well with the whole salad. Loved it. Creamy Sorghum with prawns, lobster, and “pala” snail - 4/5 - I will say this is probably the most interesting dish I’ve ever had. It’s got popcorn in it and it’s a type of stew like consistency underneath. It was pretty flavourful and definitely worth trying once, though not sure I’d necessarily get it again. Very cool though. Atmosphere - 5/5 - beautiful Latin American restaurant and a nice vibe to the place. Service - 5/5 - my waitress was very sweet and well versed with the menu, so she knew exactly what to recommend.
