How to Do Cartagena, Colombia, According to Fashion Designer Johanna Ortiz | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Cuban restaurant La Vitrola is an institution in Cartagena. There's always the most vibrant crowd and a band playing son cubano music. My go-to order is the yellowfin tuna and panko-breaded prawns accompanied by a mojito."

Romantic spot with live music! Pulp ceviche was delicious, the ropa vieja habanera was the highlight, and the coconut pie is a MUST try! Ravioli was just okay. The service was slow but added to the relaxing atmosphere.

Great ambiance and music, however I ordered the Jerk Chicken and it was literally RAW and PINK inside. 😳 I had them cook it some more and it was better… the other food was amazing though! Seemed to be overstaffed a bit too but overall great experience

Delicious and delightful vibe. I’ve been going here for years and it’s always on point. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. Definitely have the caramanolas or guava cheese to start. All the fish is fresh, be sure to ask for the coconut rice as your side. And for dessert, the coconut pie is everything!

La Vitrola Restaurante is one of the best restaurants in the world. Walking down the street you’d never knew it existed. You enter through a tiny door and suddenly are transported into a different era. It is the Cartagena experience one can only dream of, yet it’s real. The music, the decor, the food, and the drinks are all Impeccable. I especially enjoyed the lit candles, the old photographs, the green painted ceiling and the flower arrangements. For dinner, I had the Lobster Ravioli. They may also have the best sangria I’ve ever had. For anyone in Cartagena, La Vitrola Restaurante is a must.

Best dinner we had in Cartagena. Food was superb, staff was friendly, and the live music was the cherry on top. The band even played “happy birthday” as my husbands cake and candle was brought to him. I’d come here again and again.

This was one of the restaurants that really satisfied me to the core on my first ever visit to Cartagena. No other restaurant came close on my first round visit to Cartagena, not even slightly close. We went all in with starters, entrees and dessert — everything hit the spot! The service was excellent and our server was super friendly and helpful. All in all it was a memorable dining experience - chef kiss!

Lovely place, excellent service. Long pants required, but they allowed me with an apron supplied by the doorman. Once seated, we had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend having the postres, specifically the pie de coco...

This restaurant was highly recommended by the manager at my hotel with the warning that they have a dress code that doesn't allow shorts. I only brought shorts so I went to a mall and bought a pair of Colombian jeans. The restaurant is in a beautiful historic district in the walled section of the city. Our servers were very attentive. I selected the shrimp ravioli. Great dish! My partner a seafood risotto which was very tasty. We started with an octopus appetizer which was outstanding. The meal ended with flan for dessert. The place also has live music and the band was pretty good. I'd probably give them 5 stars if I didn't have to buy pants to eat there.
