"A rustic property along the road up to Mt Igueldo with a classic-contemporary interior that comes as a pleasant surprise. Basque cooking with a focus on the highest-quality ingredients plus a superb cellar featuring some of the world’s best wines!" - Michelin Inspector

"A Wine List That Goes On and On Rekondo is a little hidden treasure of a restaurant, started by an aficionado of wine. A real aficionado. His varied collection means the restaurant has a wine list of hundreds of pages. These are wines critics dream about, at prices that are a fraction of the cost in other parts of the world. They are so well-priced, in fact, that the restaurant only allows bottles to be taken off the premises if they are opened. On the outskirts of town, it is rarely completely booked and has a spacious terrace that is absolutely perfect for having a bottle of wine at sunset."

An unforgettable experience! This restaurant has the best winery I have ever seen in any restaurant worldwide – truly breathtaking. The quality of the food is beyond amazing: the ravioli de morcilla was rich and perfectly balanced, the carpaccio was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the txangurro (spider crab) was simply sublime. To finish, the apple tart paired with their typical dessert was absolutely spectacular. The wine list is nothing short of impressive, offering an incredible selection that perfectly complements the dishes. A must-visit for anyone looking for world-class cuisine and an extraordinary wine experience.

Google
It was the best meal so far of our holiday, the chef is amazing..so wonderful to try things we haven’t ever tried before and loving everything. Service was exceptional, the details from the plates to the bread and butter 😜. Feel very lucky to have got a table. 😁highly recommend, if you love good food❤️

We were so fortunate to dine at the premiere restaurant in San Sebastian! The appetizers and service were absolutely incredible. The wine and entrees were astounding! I had the Venison and it is now clear that this is the best I have ever had. We also received a tour of the wine cellar which boggled my mind with the magnitude of the collection. We all reeled from this experience in every way!

Walked into Rekondo feeling underdressed — left feeling underwhelmed. The place is gorgeous and the service was spot-on, but the food? A plot twist we didn’t see coming. The prawn carpaccio had less flavor than plain ice, the grilled artichokes were so bad we actually sent them back (a first for us), and the much-hyped baked crab looked great in its shell… and tasted like nothing. For these prices, we expected fireworks — we got a fizzle.

Google
We came here because of the recommendation of an excellent wine list and that part certainly delivered. The food was delicious. They have no background music so it was oddly silent the entire time aka weird ambiance. There was one particular worker, not a server necessarily, who was working really hard and it seemed like all the other employees were not. Overall, great food, great wine, low on hospitality and vibe.

Just don’t see what all the fuss is about - some of the food was good, some was fine, all of it was expensive and the vibes were not good. Service was occasionally excellent and sometimes unbearably slow. Overall wouldn't recommend.

Google
An outstanding dining experience at Rekondo for lunch. It is well worth the short trip from the centre of town. The atmosphere, food, wine, and service were excellent. Every dish was special, and the sommelier suggestions were perfect. We understood why afterwards when we were fortunate enough to peek at their spectacular cellar. Very highly recommended. Reservations required.

Google
On the traditional old school side ingredients are of a very good quality but not that refined, if you are normal foot lovers it will be all right. But the wine list is very good and a beautiful wine cellar.

Yelp
Great service, relaxed quiet ambiance and delicious food. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is because I ordered my filet mignon well done and got it medium at best, second time round they got it right.

Yelp
Beautiful meal dining on the patio under the trees at Rekondo. It was busy, and tough to get a reservation (they were booked out a week - we reserved through our hotel). The food was high quality, not overly expensive, great seafood forward menu. We started with bread and butter, and they serve you croquettes as an appetizer. Then we had a plate of iberico which was pretty good, the prawn carpaccio which was amazing, mushrooms, egg and foie which was good but a bit rich/heavy, the baked txangurro which was delicious - a crab gratin. And finally, the star of the show was the cochinillo, which had a delicious thin layer of skin and tender meat, with a slightly sweet sauce and we ordered a side salad as well. As you probably know, their wine list is incredible, and we asked for a cellar tour after which blew us away - highly recommend even if you're not huge into wines. Fantastic experience and would return.

Yelp
Wow! If you are a wine lover, like I am and I work in the wine industry, you have to go to Rekondo. 250 page wine list and a wine cellar with Bordeaux wines over 100 years old. The food and service are superb, but the wine service and offerings will completely blow you away!

Yelp
Food elevated to a whole new level. Spectacular meal. Highly recommend getting a reservation ahead of your visit.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant because we wanted our first melons has a passion to be great. This was the perfect start. It was beautiful inside and outside, with a great deal of San Sebastian. Even though we had two small kids, the service was fantastic. The apple tart was the best I have ever had in my life, and the rice and clams dish was great.

Yelp
Totally great meal and perfect wine pairing. Wine list is crazy. The Lobster "ensaladilla" on kabratxo pudding, Tartar and mackerel gel, white piquillo garlic and caviar, and Red prawn carpaccio, guacamole and pistachio vinaigrette were great appetizers. We went whole hog on main courses with Glazed suckling pig and Pig Trotters. Knock outs. This place deserves a Michelin star. Service was excellent, contrary to some other reviews. They are just quite busy.

Yelp
If there were "half" stars, I'd give Rekondo a 3.5. We were there for the first time in 2015 and loved it, mostly for the ambiance but also for the carpaccio dish, which was delicious. The rest of the food was not memorable, as I can't remember what else we ordered on that visit. We mostly enjoyed the atmosphere. The terrace is stunning and it's an amazing place for people watching, especially if you enjoy three hour lunches with multigenerational Spanish families. Also an amazing wine list, as others have noted. We returned to San Sebastian exactly eight years later and were looking forward to going back to the terrace at Rekondo. This time around, we were disappointed. We ordered fish soup, grilled turbot, salad, and a dessert with puff pastries, cream, and hazelnut ice cream. The fish soup was honestly flavorless. It was like a puree. Don't bother. The turbot was also not nearly as good as turbot we'd had for half the price at the port. The dessert was good but nothing to rave about. The service was the most disappointing part. It was perfunctory, did not feel personal or welcoming in the least, and at the end we waited maybe half an hour for the bill after requesting it (and the place had cleared out by that point so it wasn't because they were busy). All that said, it is just such a lovely atmosphere. It did not live up to our initial memory unfortunately, and the food is definitely overpriced compared to better Michelin star restaurants in town (this was our most expensive meal in San Sebastian and far from our best), but it is a nice place to get away from the crowds in town and take in the view. I am not sure we would go back again, but if we did, I would stick to the carpaccio and maybe clams and rice. Sunday is the best day to come to sit among Spanish families and get the feeling of the place, but you need to book early. Also, dress nicely! It's a bit dressy.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant located on a top hill overlooking La Concha beach and town of San Sebastian. Staff is extremely friendly and willing to accommodate everyone's requests. We had several plates all to share, local wine, champagne and red wine with our meals. Strongly recommend the Chuleton and cod fish. Chipirones en su tinta is another must. We were invited to see the winery which has been described as one of the best wineries in the world, which based on the quality, one should agree. You'd be pleased to find anything you might dream of as a wine lover. How to get there: a taxi ride would be short from any point in town, or call the restaurant for pick up;

Yelp
This place is absolutely stunning. Only a few problems, bad manners, overpriced food and average service. Granted, we did not have a reservation, but my wife and I just went here, the place was half full at best and they sat us outside on the deck because we "didn't have a reservation". There were at least 12-15 open tables inside. Food was very good, but entirely overpriced for what we ordered. During the end of the evening, we pretty much got ignored. I don't like to give bad reviews, but this was not a good a experience for us. We made the best of it because it was late and we did not want to walk down the hill from our Hotel.

Yelp
So good we went back twice I'd been to San Sebastian before and with much regret, wasn't able to visit Rekondo. Luckily that mistake was rectified this past July when my wife and I were joined by two friends on a long overdue trip to the Basque Country. We headed to Rekondo our first evening and the experience was so special, my wife and I went back just a few days later. Nestled halfway up the Monte Igueldo you could easily pass this restaurant without thinking twice of what you would miss. Rekondo is known for it's epic wine list and while yes, the availability and accessibility to some of the top wines of the world do indeed make the experience quite unique, Rekondo is so much more. We'd booked in advance and were seated outside on a beautiful patio with partial views of San Sebastian in the distance. Dining al fresco underneath the local trees on warm summer evening was quite a treat. Our meal began with a look at Rekondo's epic wine list and it did not disappoint. Owner Txomin Rekondo clearly loves his wine and the current wine director Martin Flea has done an amazing job of safeguarding and curating this evolving list and cellar. All the trophy wines of the world are on display yet Martin was happy to recommend a spectacular 1982 Rioja at a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere. Gems from Bordeaux and Italy were also enjoyed in great company. It's a restaurant for wine lovers yet being in San Sebastian the kitchen is no slouch. Highlights of our meals included the Gambas from Huelva, Prawn Carpaccio, an off menu half portion of fried squid and a fantastic Txuleton or Txuleta as the Basque would say. There is an elegance to the simplicity and purity of these dishes that showcases the ingredients and lets them speak for themselves. The service was friendly and courteous. Txomin's daughter and owner Lourdes was a pleasure to speak with and helped us secure a second reservation just a few days later. Rekondo was a highlight of our trip and I look forward to visiting again

Yelp
So, this was a really hard decision to make on stars - I think I'd be a 4.5 but as it wasn't quite 5, I had to lean towards 4. Here's why. Pros: -Environment: B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Wow. Like you're walking into the perfect secret garden cottage, posh style Tons of windows and the restaurant is sectioned in rooms, giving it the feel of sitting in a home with fine dining. -Food: Overall, good. Details below. -Service: Perfection. Very accommodating, polite, and the manager person had perfect English. Was able to communicate with waiters in my chopped up Spanish/English. Also, as we were in our taxi up to the restaurant (5-7 minute drive from old town), realized we weren't sure how to get a taxi back. Talked to the manager and they have their own taxi that they will add to your bill for 15 euros! 5 euros more than what we paid getting there, but so worth it for the convenience. Cons: -Food: I have to note that I'm from San Francisco and just feel like a spoiled brat about food at times. Also, I'm American and we just have different palettes - I'll admit that! While it was definitely good, it missed the mark on a couple places and it was much bigger than expected, so I wish we hadn't done 3-courses. -I'm a big dummy and didn't go ask to see the wine cellar that has been rated by Wine Spectator as one of the top 5 in the world (and the only on that list in Europe). My fault, not theirs. Wished they'd offered, but again, all on me for not asking. (1) Prawn Carpaccio: What a beautiful plate. Seriously. Slightly torn up prawns scattered around a plate with pieces of various fruit (pineapple, peaches, strawberry, pomegranate seeds) and a bit of avocado. Light, refreshing, just way too large of a portion. (2) Stuffed Peppers with Oxtail: Not the prettiest plate (it was largely brown with the red of the sweet peppers). This was my preferred appetizer. The oxtail had wonderful flavor that was perfectly balanced with teh sweet peppers. (3) Stuffed Crab: Divine but rich. Holy richness - I couldn't actually finish it and they thought I didn't like it, I felt awful because it was good! Pretty presentation literally baked in a crab shell. Definitely worth the try (4) Hake with Clams (fresh pea sauce): Tableside plating of the boiled fish in a pretty butter and fresh pea sauce. You could tell everything was farm-to-table. (5) Apple Cake: My favorite item of the night - amazing! I think there was a translation issue here, it was more of an apple tart. Perfect small puff pastry with the thinnest slices of apples on top that I've ever seen - it felt very elevated! The spices were perfect and complemented by the vanilla ice cream. (6) Caramelized Bread with Mango Ice Cream: Mango ice cream was wonderful. The bread's texture was a bit odd - felt like when you're making french toast and drench it in liquids. Had a carmelized sugar top. Overall, definitely a good experience getting you out of the downtown San Sebastian area.

Yelp
Outstanding, charming delight of a restaurant. Later during this visit we ate at Arzak, and I'd say we had just as wonderful of a time here, just with less heavy-staffing hospitality and simpler traditional Basque preparations. * Carpaccio of tiger prawn * Foie gras * Cuttlefish in blank ink sauce ... and a few other items, all magnificent. And the wine list is incredible. 5000 wines, ~250 pages. We opened up with cava glasses and had the sommelier steer us towards a 2001 Ribera del Duero, much happiness for EUR 50. Well-behaved kids very welcome. Taxi here, and have them call you a cab home. It's halfway up a hill.

Yelp
One of my best meals ever on the planet. The jamon is incredible. The 1970 wine was over the top for almost nothing and the stuffed crab was sinful. Don't miss it. It's a real treat and an experience to have some top notch basque cuisine.

Yelp
This place will receive a Michelin star. Amazing preparation and creative dishes. Highlight is the tuna carpaccio and the suckling pig. The owner, Lourdes runs an amazing restaurant and was very gracious. Dining on the deck is recommended.

Yelp
Had lunch at the terrace, that is so beautiful with huge trees shading and nice temperature. The food is great. My favorite chipirones en su tinta. Saw Arzak having lunch there.... so thats a clue.

Yelp
One of the best meals I had in San Sebastián! They don't have a Michelin star but certainly should! Lourdes de owner helped my husband and I to pick great local unique dishes. We really loved the shrimp carpaccio, the pork, fish soup, baked crab, and the baked apple for dessert. They have an amazing wine selection as well. The local sparkling white wine and the Rioja are really good. I 100% recommend this place!

Yelp
Good traditional Basque restaurant a bit off the beaten path in San Sebastián. Most of the high rating is due to the great service they provided. I was dining alone and they created a nice tasting menu for me to try of smaller portions of their more popular dishes including rice with clams, shrimp carpaccio, stuffed crab, and suckling pig. The shrimp and the crab were the highlights, but I must admit that I was a bit too stuffed by the time the suckling pig came around to fully enjoy the beautiful dish. Good place to bring others to enjoy many dishes over a slow meal.

Yelp
Spectacular service, gorgeous preparation and presentation. A classic. Oh yeah: and the wine list...epic.

Yelp
We visited Rekondo in October of 2013 and had a great experience. We took a cab from downtown San Sebastian and arrived on a dark evening. While I knew the wine list would be spectacular, I was a bit concerned about how the food would be. I was surprised at how great the food was. We had an amazing seafood salad and roasted vegetable for two with fresh farm egg to start and this was one of the only restaurants in Spain that served fresh asparagus. Both dishes were outstanding. Our entree was a Chuleta de Buey ( grilled ribsteak for two). The steak was really flavorful and rich in flavor (as good as the famous steak at Extebarri) and was very reasonably priced. It was cooked perfectly medium rare. Finished with a pretty amazing cheese course. The wine list of course was incredible. We had a 1970 Rioja for around $40 US that was drinking very well. I had gone in with a list of wines I was interested in and planned on the 1975 but the sommelier suggested the 1970. Service was a little odd at first and the lights were too bright. We actually had them turn the lights down which helped quite a bit, which they happily obliged. Service warmed up considerably as the night wore on. We walked back from the restaurant to the Westin in San Sebastian which was quite a haul but it was a beautiful walk along Playa de la Concha. The restaurant offered to call us a cab but we preferred to walk off the meal. Highly recommended.

Yelp
nice seafood. good rice and clams. carpaccio/prawns dish could be served in a michelin starred restaurant wine list is ridiculous/extensive.
