I am very happy with this painting and how it looks in my wife's she-shed. She loves it!

Carefully curated pieces by an owner who has made his business his passion. Store has turned into an excellent catalog of mid century modern and fine art. Owner has a vast knowledge base and happy to share history of pieces.

This gallery knowingly passed off a FAKE pastel by a famous artist and then asked me to get proof that is wasn't by the artist (which i did and actually got 4 opinions that said it was not by the artist). Not even the signature was right. If you don't know much about the art world, which i didn't until this incident, they have lots of ways to squirm out of having sold you a fake painting. This gallery was well versed in how to get around the fact that they had NO proof and did not check any information about a work before they "authenticated" it and sold it for more than even an original was worth. They provided NO proof that it was by the artist and it was kind of unbelievable how little they cared about their reputation. It was very obvious to me that they knew the work was a fake when they sold it. Fortunately I bought through 1stDibs who got me my money back after months of stalling. Hannah acted like I was rude for even questioning them as if they were above it all. She was extremely dismissive and unprofessional. I would NEVER buy from them !! DO NOT !! EVER !!!! And if they are trying to resell you this pastel, RUN!!

Really enjoyed the gallery show of women artists. Could have some better refreshments though.

Yelp
I love the Reeves; coolest museum in downtown. They're always having an exhibition or some sort of event where people can come and not only look at and buy art, but also to meet the artists; like how neat is that?? There's nothing more heartwarming and clarifying than listening to the creator explain what their piece really means. The Reeves is such a special art gallery with pieces rotating every month. It's great to come by and look, buy art, and maybe even make a friend!

Kaila S.

Yelp
I came in with my husband because his friend is one of the artists that was showing that day. This place was so cute, we got to see our friend's work which was awesome but we were also introduced to other artists. The owner was there too and he was super friendly! They had a complimentary bar the day we visited and made us much more eager to purchase artwork. It's in a cute area too. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
I love this place - I highly recommend. There is a wide variety of art and furniture. Prices vary depending on your budget but overall I felt prices were reasonable. Staff is knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I purchased 2 pieces last weekend. Their staff helped me load it into my truck and helped with getting it tied down. Every time I've been into their gallery I've been greeted kindly and felted welcomed and not rushed. It's easy to lose track of time as there's so much to see. I will buy again here.

Yelp
a great location for all of your furniture niches; matt and his father own a pretty well versed shop here in houston specifically the montrose area - i already have my eye on a few things

Lance D.

Yelp
This gentleman is a true artist that will cut to the chase and tell you exactly what you want to know about a particular piece of art. I'm absolutely elated that I found this studio and was able to meet, Paul. I try not to make a trip without stopping by and saying hello.

Jamie H.

Yelp
So excited about the furniture we just bought! This is our favorite place to shop in Houston. The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful and the owner is always available to assist and provide the details and history of each piece. The selection of original midcentury furniture is outstanding and the custom made items are beautiful.

Yelp
Stopped in over the weekend to look for a few different pieces. They only have mid-century modern style which I didn't realize going in. That's not my personal style but I like browsing for antiques so I decided to walk around anyway. There were no prices on anything which was very confusing. I also noticed some of the pieces had new paint or new fabric so it wasn't clear which pieces were true antiques vs restored/refinished. But all of the pieces looked like they were in good condition and the store layout was good - not too much digging through piles like some stores although you will have to dig for art. From the outside, it looks like the space is a lot bigger but I think one side may be the storage facility as it was not accessible to shoppers. The woman working was friendly. My main issue is a lack of pricing. I don't like surprises and guessing games when shopping.

Yelp
I just bought a house in the neighborhood and went in to look at furniture. They actually asked me to leave because they were closing (it was exactly 4:55pm and they close at 5pm). I was literally just confused. Obviously not the best service. From when I could see during my 30 second visit, the furniture was great but expensive.

Yelp
This place preys on the uneducated and ill-informed. It is rare to find a piece in what I would consider "excellent" condition and the price point for the stuff they have is ridiculously over-inflated. To add to the mix, the pieces that they do have aren't even the cream of the crop. If you have a lot of money and want to tell your friends how much you paid for something at such and such antique store, go for it. 10 minutes on the internet could find you pieces in better condition, and with shipping ($200 - $400) can have it delivered to your door for less than you would pay in this place. After a disappointing visit to both here and their sister store, went to an antique market and found a much more rare mid-century 50's Riviera Bar made for Harrods of London AND a 1933 Garrard art deco antique clock (1933) for about 2/5th's the price that these guys were trying to sell a small credenza for. Prices are just not even close to reasonable for the quality and rarity of the pieces. All Hype.

Tracy L.

Yelp
My husband and I love frequenting Reeves, the inventory is always changing with new and interesting pieces. This father/son combo are always helpful and very nice. Looking for something you won't see in anyone else's house stop by Reeves there is something unique for everyone.

Raffi M.

Yelp
We had been looking for reasonably priced mid-century modern antiques since we got to Houston, and somehow had missed Reeves Antiques. This is just a great find; a family run store with a wide range of furniture in good shape. All of the prices are negotiable. Just an an example, we got a wonderful dining table and six chairs for about $1,000 below what we had been quoted for commodity stuff. I mean, where else can you get European made semi-antiques in almost mint condition for prices considerably below Pottery Barn?

Yelp
A great selection of vintage and period furniture and artwork. I am a big fan of the eye they have created. Everyone is friendly, personable and knowledgeable. They have helped with repairs and refurbishing as well. It's really worth checking out. They have gone out of their way to accommodate me in my quests.

Erica S.

Yelp
If you are looking to find some classic modern pieces including artwork, this is the place to come. Not overwhelming, the space and the owner invite you in to check out the 9 month old newest modern space which holds classics like herman miller and eames chairs to miro art work. A trip here is worth it if you're in the area. The prices were not advertised, but were to be solicited. (Via other reviews, I hear you can barter a tad. Also, this review is only rating the modern side as the traditional side was not visited.)

Jim P.

Yelp
Hmmm...Not as good as I thought. After expecting my delivery on our agreed shipping price of $50, I come home to a phone message, saying they need another $100? Come on! That's just not cool to make a deal and then hold my painting hostage. Bad business practices. BEWARE.

Sooze L.

Yelp
This is a wonderful family business run by folks who really are caring and passionate about their furniture and their customers. Although we didn't buy, we appreciated the low pressure time that we spent talking to the owner about his business. Apparently, it was his [business-savvy] son that decided to focus on mid century vintage items in the bigger show room, while the traditional and true antiques may be seen by appointment next door. The couches are splendid and gorgeous. They are willing to work with their customers in terms of pricing. Very good service!

David S.

Yelp
Mr. Reeves is sooo helpful and friendly. He has some really super pieces of 50s and 60s "ultra modern" stuff. Straight out "Mad Men" and my memory of the time. Not exactly cheap, but when are antiques ever cheap? Definitely a place to put on your antiquing list!!

Martha W.

Yelp
I stopped on an impulse on my way to The Met, my gym. I wanted to see what they had in stock, since it had been years since I'd been in the store. It's really amazing. The furniture is mostly mid-century modern, with older antiques mixed in. All of the pieces looked well-designed and in good condition, and the prices seemed reasonable. I was interested in the art, having seen their exhibit at the modern art expo at the Geo. R. Brown a few months ago. The website has a ton of pieces, more than are on display I was told, and that's true, and almost overwhelming, but it's well-presented at the brick and mortar store , and not at all overwhelming. There are some true jewels there, even in the "stacks," at very reasonable prices. If you are looking for any of these things, you do yourself a disservice not to check them out.

Yelp
This is my favorite furniture shop in Houston. Their selection of mid century, fine art and antiques are beyond anything I've seen elsewhere including their fabric choices. Make sure you come Monday-Saturday to check out their warehouse next door as well. You can find some real treasures! I find it difficult to not leave with something. In fact, I've purchased my dining set, living room rug, and several pieces of art from them. The owner and employees are incredibly friendly and helpful with excellent taste and design suggestions. I always appreciate their feedback and extensive knowledge on design history. I feel their pricing is fair compared to other places I've looked in Houston and elsewhere. You're given a perfectly curated selection to choose from with some pieces you couldn't find anywhere else!

Marcus D.

Yelp
I've bought a couple of pieces from Matthew including a rosewood credenza and a 70s vintage Eames lounge chair. The quality of the merchandise and store layout are excellent. I get the feeling that some of the reviews complaining about price are from those that don't understand the value of the items that Reeve's carries. You're not going to pay bottom dollar, but you're buying lifetime pieces.

Dustin C.

Yelp
By far, the best (and only) antique store that has a niche in the retro genre. Matt and Paul know what the people like and have everything set nicely.

Haley B.

Yelp
One of my favorite art / mid century modern shops! If you're looking for great quality, family-heirloom worthy pieces, Reeves is the best place to go. They get in new items weekly, masterfully refinish or reupholster them and are also willing to work with customers on pricing. You can also hang out with their puppies while you shop!

Mr C.

Yelp
I've purchased several things from Matthew over the years and have always found him to be very easy to deal with and friendly and knowledgeable. My last purchase was a 1950's Dunbar buffet in great condition that was 1/3 of what it was on 1st Dibs. Reeves has a good selection of Mid Century Modern from buffets to chests to art and lighting. Most of their upholstery has been recovered (otherwise everyone would bitch that it's so dirty.....). My only complaint is that there are no visible prices and I haven't been able to crack their code. It's also an interesting place just just knock around and browse. I have to laugh at these people who bitch about finding things on the internet cheaper, etc.....Of course prices will be higher in a store. You pay for the privilege of seeing something in person, inspecting it and getting immediate gratification. You are also paying for the shop owners time to select, ship, clean , etc.....in order to get to the salesfloor. If you can't understand this, shop at IKEA or buy a bunch of other generic Chinese junk on Overstock.com.

Yelp
mr. reeves is very knowledgeable of his antiques and you can tell he enjoys it too. he has antique rugs, furniture, artwork... anything you need as a filler for your home.. he has! swing on by to say hi to his dog named corky. he's super playful and CUTE!!

Yelp
We were looking for a cabinet that we could place just outside the entrance to our condo unit to store shoes in. We were restricted in options, because we needed something that wouldn't clash with the furniture that is already in our building. We found a couple of pieces that we were interested in here. The store's staff quickly did some extra finishing on the piece we were most interested in, and we're delighted with our purchase. When we asked for a matching chair, I was impressed with how well the staff knew the store's inventory. The owners are willing to negotiate on price for some items compared to what they post on the internet. Don't be afraid to ask. We had a much better experience with this store than the first one we tried. They also loaded the piece into the back of our SUV for us.

Kylie R.

Yelp
You should really know who you are talking to when you pull, "I am the expert at this, and I do it for a living, therefore you should just trust me." SERIOUSLY. Just because the "internet" says "so and so" is the designer of a piece doesn't make it so. When you say "it will be on the invoice, and that is your proof, or "it's in books," and you talking to someone who actually knows that you are wrong and has documentation to prove it, you prove that you don't know what you are talking about. You give people who are actually genuinely care about what they are doing a bad name. Cute dogs though.

Yelp
Great experience and good customer service. Loved all the design objection. Will go back to buy more!

kyle d.

Yelp
I would love to keep this place secert but to cool to keep to myself. Awesome father son biz. Has a great vibe and Matt knows his stuff. Will work with you to get you into a great peice of art or whatever you find. Check it out, worth stopping in.

Tracey G.

Yelp
I can't believe this place was around the corner from me and I had never been inside! The furniture was fun and unique, but the hanging art work was my favorite! :) The people were super nice and the dog was a cutie! I'll definetly be back ;)

Fred H.

Yelp
One of the coolest spots in town and one of the most unique furniture stores you will ever visit. If you enjoy art and furniture, I highly recommend checking out their mid century and vintage collection. They have a lot of classic mid century designs by Dunbar, Eames, George Nelson, etc along with more reasonably priced stuff. A lot of what they sell would go for five or six times in LA or NYC. The owner Matt knows what's he doing style wise and will go out of his way to help you find the right piece. A truly exceptional, interesting and cool place to visit.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Mid-century modern fans, rejoice! You've found your Mecca! The father-son duo and cutie-patootie dogs-in-tow have a great spread of art, furniture, and rugs in a humble warehouse-looking store in the Montrose area. They are always friendly and welcoming and will try to help you find what you're looking for. We have been in many times and finally settled on a 1950s MCM re-upholstered couch. Everybody comments on the couch and it is definitely a statement piece in our home. The prices are a bit steep if you're a regular person like us (hence, the 4-star rating), but if you appreciate art and a hand-made furniture that's built to last (and already has lasted more than half a century), you'll do well to make a purchase here. The prices are not posted on the furniture, so you have to ask, but they are opening to bartering a bit. And you may want to inquire as to the return policy - I don't think there is one - so make sure you're happy with the purchase. But, I promise, you will be!
