We come here every time we are in Alpine and it’s always top notch. I overdid it to myself tonite with the incredible chicken fried chicken but it’s always worth the suffering after. Diana was or server and was attentive and lovely. Can’t recommend enough.

Passing through on our way to Terlingua and we stopped for dinner. Very cute place and for the size of the town good food. We had the calf fries with cream gravy and the tortilla soup to start. Calf fries were good but not much flavor. The Tortilla soup was very good. For the main course we had the sour cream and chicken enchiladas and the avocado steak Caesar salad. Again both were good but no real flavor. Service was slow on the patio and we had to ask about a drink that ordered. Not a bad place just needs to take the food up a notch. I would stop in again if I’m in the area to see if this was an off night or the norm.

Started out great by getting seated at our reservation time, took a little long for waters and cocktails, appetizers came out about 20 minutes after ordering, but before the apps came out we ordered our entrees and well, they never came out. The GM came out with our dishes and gave them to someone else and didn't acknowledge what we said about those being our entrees bc we had been there before that party significantly longer, then the bartender/server asked the GM to talk to us and he said "so I guess he wanted me to talk to you, is there something you need" as I reply "yeah we've been here over an hour and still haven't received our entrees" and he walks off to check but only to see the bartender to tell him, "so are you not gonna tell them", he comes over and lets us know that our ticket had been "lost" and that it would be another 20 minutes before food would arrive. We left, but thankfully the bartender/server comp'ed what we had ordered. The bartender/server was our only semi decent experience.

Google
This place was so cute and the food was very good! We got the steak tacos and the alpine nachos. The steak tacos has a lot of meat making it very filling. The steak itself was super meaty and the sauce was very flavorful. Overall me and my friend really loved the experience we had here :)

Google
Our waiter did not seem to know the items that were on the menu.I was looking for a grilled chicken entree but she had a hard time finding one fore me. I ended up ordering the Tortilla soup, which was good after the owner brought out the broth that was hot.The waiter brought out broth that was luke warm.

Walking in for a last dinner place that was open. Town close early be aware. The food was great!! the Restaurant is very vintage and the photos inside very cool.

Google
Such a cute little place. Atmosphere is really comfortable, and the staff is extremely friendly. We felt welcomed right after walking through the door, and always had prompt service. Great selection of food and drinks, and everything was absolutely delicious. I have some dietary restrictions as well, and our server was really knowledgeable and helpful about the menu, which made browsing much easier. I only wish I was in the area longer to try more of the options. Perfect place for a date night, or for small groups. Definitely a must-go for the area.

Google
Fantastic first, second and third dining experience. Bart and Sergio were on point through the busy Christmas week. Great food, good cocktails and a busy staff. They did not slow down serving the guests while shorthanded. All was well in the end. The customers were happy, the staff was cheerful and a good meal was had by all. Happy New Year to all. I recommend and will return.

Yelp
Thank you Reata Restaurant, Bart Scherer (GM), and Carly (?) our server! Intending to eat at the Sports Bar next door, thinking this place was closed, as that's what Yelp said, we walked past the restaurant only to see patrons inside. We decided it looked more inviting and went in. Seated in the bar area we were perusing the menu and saw some good choices. Carly (?) our server was very friendly and took our order efficiently. The buttermilk pecan bread brought out was delicious. My wife had the asada enchiladas and I had the citrus chicken. Both were excellent! As we were completing our meal Bart Scherer, the GM asked how our experience was. We spoke for some time learning of the restaurant's history. Highly recommended for local, fresh, delicious food, great service, and great people?

Yelp
Yummy food and wonderful service! The nachos were delicious and the chicken fried steak is definitely a must! Reservations are highly encouraged!!!! There were several walk-ins turned away while we were there who didn't have reservations. Even parties of 2-3. Other than that, would definitely come back!

Yelp
I was honestly surprised to find such an amazing fancy restaurant in a small town! They serve the best tortilla soup I've ever had. And the ribeye steak was cooked perfectly! We also finished off the meal with a molten chocolate cake and it was beautifully rich. Delicious food! The service was great as well! Super nice and helpful staff! And of course the ambiance was on point as well! Such cool decorations, and the fireplace was so cozy! I also had a hot toddy drink and it was made perfectly! Well done! 10/10!

Tiffany V.

Yelp
Everything about this place is charming and delicious. My Ribeye was cooked perfectly, the jalapeño and cilantro soup was to die for and finished up with the molten chocolate cake, which was decedent and hit the spot.

Conery W.

Yelp
What a lovely experience. Great service, cool atmosphere (a living tree in the bar), tasty drinks and a delicious steak dinner. The jalapeño bacon Mac n cheese was excellent. The bar is dog friendly so that's where we ate. The manager reminded us a little of Stephen Root. Everyone was so warm and welcoming especially our server, Casey! Try the Alpine Old-fashioned.

Yelp
We have been going to Reata Alpine for years, and things have changed. The sour cream enchiladas used to be creamy, but now are filled with chicken and nothing else, no sauce or cheese, so they were dry and crispy and difficult to swallow. Calamari used to be big pieces as I've mentioned in my past reviews, but they are smaller now and are not as tasty. I've cooked many a meal out of the Reata cookbook, so I know most things are flavorful and enjoyable. Dinner service in the bar is not good the past two times. The bartender was not attentive in the least. I guess the blonde bartender that has been there for years is no longer there? She was a gem. We are going to take a break from Reata for a while, and hope they sort things out.

Heather J.

Yelp
The food was great. We ordered the tenderloin tamales as an appetizer. Then the carne asada w enchiladas which was cooked perfectly and a nice cut of steak with a huge portion as well as the chile relleno plate. The only thing we were disappointed in was the drinks. There wasn't really a cocktail list and the old fashioned we ordered with maraschino cherries in it was $15, for that price I'd expect a craft cube of ice and luxardos. Other than the drink quality to price, overall it was a nice meal, I'd just say up your cocktail game!

Heather D.

Yelp
Walked in to 6 tables seated, they said they were full at 5:30pm and only were taking reservations, no walk ins. People in town told us they would be like that and recommended we go somewhere else, should have listened.

Jen K.

Yelp
The food was amazing. The service was great and the ambiance was relaxing. It was my birthday and we decided to split the tortilla soup, the cheese and poblano grits and Carne Asada Topped with Reata's Cheese Enchiladas. The tortilla soup was great and we loved how it came out and they poured the broth over the contents in the bowl. It was a cool night and it warmed us up quickly. The broth was full of flavor and the chicken was tender and the cheese was gooey and wonderful. I have never really had grits before and these were not what I expected. They were great and I look forward to having them again. The peppers add a nice flavor and the cheese a smooth texture and both work great with the corn flavor of the grits. Our favorite dish of the night was Carne Asada Topped with Reata's Cheese Enchiladas. The carne asada was seasoned well and cooked a perfect medium rare. The enchalada added a great soft and salty element on top of the steak. The red enchalada sauce was dark and smoky. Even splitting we both had plates with so much food. Highly recommend but make reservations! They only have 13 tables and they fill up quickly. It's worth the time and planning to eat all of the wonderful food here. The staff were amazing and answered all of my questions and gave us clear direction as to what I could eat since I'm gluten free.

Kristina K.

Yelp
Novelty place overpriced. Food was not that great. My steak was overcooked. Potatoes were cold green beans over peppered.

Trina W.

Yelp
Will say service was pretty good. However I was expecting more of the food. Nothing we had was "bad" nothing was just great or stood out. I had the carne asada topped with enchiladas. I will say the carne asada was cooked well, pretty tender. The enchilada sauce was a bit sweet so it wasn't what I was expecting at all. Beans and rice were okay. Husband had the steak which came with potatoes and broccoli. Steak was a pretty thin ribeye so almost overcooked when ordered medium rare, for the price I wouldn't say it's the best option. I also had my eye on the bread pudding tamales with dulce de leche ice cream. Everything was overpowered by the caramel drizzle over the top. Id have to say the best part was the pecan rolls they brought out before our meal. Very good. Could even see them being eaten as a dessert with a cup of coffee. Reservations were highly recommended on the reviews I read so we made one even though the restaurant only looked to be half full when we were there. Inside was cute, very dimly it. Glad we tried it for ourselves, but a little sad expectations fell a bit short for the hype and price.

Yelp
Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Food just took a while to come out. After talking to the table next to us who seemed to be regulars, we decided to order the wedge salad, citrus crusted chicken, and bacon wrapped crab stuffed jalapeños over grits shared between the two of us. We were also greeted with complimentary bread. The stuffed jalapeños were delicious, especially if you're a cream cheese lover like me. I actually wasn't expecting the cheese but it was a pleasant surprise. The grits were also good, my mom enjoyed it when she usually doesn't love grits. The wedge salad was fresh. Pretty solid. Nothing to complain about. Citrus crusted chicken with honey mustard sauce was fresh and delicious as well. The only downside? It took almost 40 minutes to come out, we were practically full by then. We only ate half of everything and got the rest to go. My mom thought the mashed potatoes was the star of the night. Service was friendly, I suggested my mom get a beer since it was happy hour, but the waitress said the beer on tap was not included in the happy hour. She also didn't mention it was domestic beer only, but whatever. I believe the specials were $5 wine, $5 well drinks, $2.5 domestic beer before 6pm. Depending on where you're seated, the restaurant can feel cozy and intimate. The area where the bar (and a tree) was looked more lively and had beautiful lighting. I caught glimpses of the outdoor patio which also looked great. Plenty of street parking.

Amy K.

Yelp
I am a local here in Alpine. I've eaten at the Reata for almost 20 years. You used to get bread with dinner and you used to get a lot of food and didn't mind paying the price for it. Now, you get nothing. My wedge salad was to go. It was yellow and wilted with not enough dressing and barely any pico. The wedge was 2" wide! I am tired of paying top notch prices for mediocre food. My wedge and a BLT sandwich cost $46 with a tip! I will not be eating at the Reata again.

Heather L.

Yelp
Had a great meal and service! Charming little place tucked off the main st downtown area. We Lemon crusted salmon and shrimp penne. The biscuits and butter were delicious! Highly recommend!

John G.

Yelp
Fourth visit to Reata - Alpine. Food was wonderful, service was even better, in a wonderful West Texas ambiance. Great experience, well worth the price.

GARY H.

Yelp
Coming from Arlington and was told by several friends to try Reata. I'm glad we did. Reservation for 7:15 ran a bit over but understandable as this place was packed. Ordered a Dos Equis beer with onion rings. Beer was cold and some of the best rings i ever had. Sour cream chicken enchiladas were awesome loaded with cheese and the sauce was outstanding. Girlfriend had the poblano chile reneo. Super good. Server was great. The outdoor patio was in full swing and great vibes all around. All in all a super great experience and great food. What more could you ask.

Jane J.

Yelp
We had the steak special. It came with steak, mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and broccoli. To say the least it was very disappointing. The steak was chewy and full of fat. The potatoes were inedible because they had a lot of pepper in them. On the upside, the broccoli was tasty, as was the coffee and crème brûlée! The waiter was amazing! I was very expensive! Can not recommend this place!!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Service was great! Joseph was very friendly and attentive. The biscuits were good. We got the jalapeño poppers for an app. I thought they were ok. My boyfriend really enjoyed them. We both loved the grits that came with them. We spilt the steak. I must say I had high hops but we were let down. The quality was not there. It was bland, chewy, and over cooked. The mashed potatoes were the best thing! We also really liked the max and cheese. The house wine is the only cab you can get by the glass. It was a major let down but for the $5 happy hour I guess you get what you pay for.

Meggie C.

Yelp
We had such a blast at Reata! The staff were fantastic, ambiance was lovely, and everything we ordered was absolutely amazing. Will definitely come back! We ordered: onion rings, wedge salad, tortilla soup, carne asada enchiladas, and the buttermilk pecan pie. Yum!

Patricia A.

Yelp
I have ordered food from this particular restaurant a couple months ago and the food is the bomb! I ordered both my fiancé and myself an enchilada plate and man, it tasted so good! It's worth either dining or ordering take outs! The staff there are so super friendly as well! The place does get busy, but regardless, it's still a very friendly and laid back atmosphere! Everyone seems so happy and cheerful, something that's most needed; especially, when operating a business! I will most definitely be ordering out again!

Yelp
I went to Texas last week to see the eclipse, and that night ended up staying in Alpine, TX (incidentally, the Holland Hotel was awesome). We visited Reata Restaurant and loved it. It may have been a little busier than usual due to the eclipse, and there was a wait for a table. I know that because the couple in front of us, probably in their 60's, were trying to get a table. I think it was the first time they ever had to make a reservation, which they did not already have (though the restaurant accepts them). The reason it seemed to me like their first-ever reservation was because, when told there would be a 30-45-minute wait, the woman said, "what am I supposed to do, stand here and wait??" Seriously? The woman who worked there was so excellent and professional and patient, despite her shock. She had owner vibes, but I don't know if she is, or a manager, or what her position is. She probably doesn't deal with "Karens" very often in the Big Bend region of Texas, but she knew what to do. She asked, "would you like to put in your name?" The rude customer started walking away from the employee, then said curtly "put it under Bruce," as she continued to leave the restaurant. The employee said, "hold on, there's more information I need." The Karen said "OH, IT'S COMPLICATED, IT'S NOT EASY!!!" All she needed was to give her phone number to get a text when the table was ready. Geez! Anyway, they gave the info, and they left. I shared my shock and disgust with the employee at how a person can behave that way simply because a restaurant is full. I don't know if that couple simply didn't want to sit outside (I arrived there when she was already complaining that there was a wait), but needless to say, my daughter and I were promptly seated outside in the lovely back of the restaurant. The grounds were great; there is artwork and trees, and the tables and chairs were beautiful, too. The service was wonderful, and the food was excellent. I had the carne asada with enchiladas, and my daughter had the grilled chicken sandwich. We loved it. If we ever visit Alpine again, I will definitely have a meal at Reata Restaurant again.

Cissie M.

Yelp
Omg ! Such a great little place. GREAT food and drinks. Lovely waitress. We enjoyed it so much. Going back soon!

Brad C.

Yelp
We had dinner recently at Riata. It was great as always. We had: Tenderloin Tamales Jalapeño & Bacon Mac & Cheese Citrus Crusted Chicken Carne Asada topped with Cheese Enchiladas. Chocolate Bread Pudding Tamale. Service was great as always at Riata. We will be back.

Gaz H.

Yelp
More restaurant than you have any right to expect here in Alpine. The dining room and atmosphere punches way above its weight. The kitchen keeps up and puts out a quality product. They take reservations online--this is a popular place with the local crowd and it makes sense for you to do that. Cowboy up!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Looks to be one of the fancier place in town. It has a good Texan-fusion-modern menu. The bar and courtyard is beautiful. Service was great, folks were very attentive and friendly. The pecan biscuits and herb butter was the best. I could totally just eat those for my meal. Otherwise the entries were decent, some dishes were too greasy and oily, the kind that doesn't make your stomach feel great afterwards. The portion is very big, true Texas sized meals. However the food made me extremely thirsty afterwards which is a sign that they used MSG in their cooking. Be aware. Not a bad place for a stop to have a meal.

Tanja N.

Yelp
On our recent trip thru Chihuahuan desert, we spent the night in Alpine, TX. For such a small town we were pretty surprised to find "cowboy" restaurant with such an impressive service. It was a quiet night in May, they were still surprisingly busy.. honestly we were shocked when we were greeted by the hostess on the entrance. Definitely didn't expect that level of service in such a small town. The waiter really took his time to explain the menu and since we were really hungry did give us a warning that portions are big. Still till we actually saw our food come out, we didn't know how big. I couldn't even finish my tortilla soup, which was absolutely amazing. Cheese enchiladas were suppose to be my main dish, took them to go. My teens barely made a dent in their chicken pasta dish. I only wish we could have spent another night, I would have loved trying out more items from menu!

Kae J.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a historic building i. The downtown area. Had a nice birthday lunch here. It was very nice and classy inside. The service was excellent! The chicken fried chicken was tasty, and so was the crème brûlée. If you're in the area, give them a visit.

Chris C.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by the check in hotel staff. This is a busy weekend with car shows and music festivals so it's a good thing we made a reservation for 5 pm when it opened as it was totally full by 6. There is free dinner time parking at the bank across from the restaurant which is super convenient. Rustic design with high ceilings, heavy solid wood furniture, taxidermy animal heads on walls. Several dining rooms big and small - we were in one with a fire place and a big western painting with 4 tables set up with 2 and 4 tops. Had ceasar salad with steak, chicken nachos and pecan pie. All quite delicious, pecan pie had very nice melt in your mouth crust although pricey at $10. Service was good, food came quickly even though they were busy. Definitely a good restaurant anywhere and an absolute must try in Alpine.

Jeff B.

Yelp
We went to Reata for a belated birthday dinner on our trip to Alpine and the Big Bend Region. The ambiance was fantastic, and the food surpassed that. We had the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which was very good, and a Jalapeno Cream soup that was amazing. We split the Chicken Fried Chicken entree, which was definitely in the top 3 I've ever had. Even splitting it, there was almost too much food since we were saving room for dessert. We decided on the Chocolate Bread Pudding Tamale. It came out with a little birthday candle and a card signed by the staff, which was so nice. The pudding was absolutely delicious as was the ice cream on the side. I'm quite glad it was my belated birthday dinner so I got a bit more than half of that dessert! It was so good, I think this might become a regular birthday celebration dinner (and we live near Austin!).

Yelp
On our way to 10-Bit Ranch we stopped at Alpine to buy a few groceries and came across Reata. We were surprised people were waiting on the cute western porch for the doors to open at 5 pm. Unusual early dinner for us as we are not sure what is waiting for us 68 miles from here, expecting off-the-grid true experience. Order my usual old fashion, it was above average, pretty good. My husband decided to have a "light" dinner. Ordered the creamy crawfish, tenderloin tamales, small Caesar salad - all from the appetizers' list. Well, no light affair at all, portion were big, and the tamales was a full plate with 3 full size tamales. He enjoyed his food "I was happy"' he expressed. I had the dinner Avocado Caesar with tenderloin strips. Excellent, the tenderloin was cooked just right and melted in my mouth. Overall: food was good, service was adequate - a bit in a hurry, music was excellent. If you go make sure you have reservations, it is a very popular place. We were lucky because it was unusually early for us.

Yelp
At Reata in Alpine, Texas, the culinary journey this time (have eaten here many times) was akin to stepping into a comfortable, yet unchanging world. The chicken fried steak, a Southern classic, was satisfying in its simplicity, but lacked a certain flair that could elevate it beyond the ordinary. The hamburger, while hearty, echoed a similar sentiment - competent but crying out for a modern twist. The vegetable plate, was okey dokey.... And provided needed freshness to the meal, yet it too seemed to yearn for a dash of innovation. It's clear the menu, steadfast in its offerings for a long long long long long time is in dire need of a culinary facelift to match the evolving tastes of its patrons. Our server was great. Reata could regain its glory but seems to heavily and perennially rest on its laurels.

Joshua H.

Yelp
Great place for lunch. Got busy fast after 1130am open. Really fast. We got seated out back on patio for two without an rsvp ahead. Got served within 15 mins of ordering up. The CFS and CFC entrees both very good but the CFC we agreed was better. Side options are also well done and tasty. Nice patio space to take in a meal with.

Lisa Z.

Yelp
Driving through Alpine on our way to weekend in Big Bend (no joke, make sure you have all your provisions for your trip before leaving Alpine!) and looking for dog friendly lunch spot. Yelp directed us perfectly! What a beautiful enclosed and landscaped shady back patio! The staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming with fresh water for our dog bowl and treats offered to our pups. The food was really tasty and not just the standard you find at every restaurant. Especially enjoyed the huge portion of tenderloin tamales with pecan on top. Service was prompt and friendly. We took the buttermilk pecan pie to go for another treat later! Definitely recommended and a don't miss if you're traveling with your dog!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I attempted to eat here during our visit in October 2020; unfortunately it was closed due to staff COVID outbreak according to the sign on the door. Excited to be back in Alpine and Reata was open for business! Our food and the service here were nothing short of amazing! The server had a very spunky, outgoing personality and joked with us throughout the night. We asked for her recommendation between the house Merlot and Cabernet; she suggested the Merlot and we were quite pleased (especially for the price). I had the Fried Poblano Chile Rellenos and 2 Bacon Wrapped Crab Stuffed Jalapeños which was to die for, I was stuffed after halfway through and kept nibbling because I couldn't stop!! Boyfriend had the chicken fried steak (he's a cfs connoisseur) and he said it was delicious; he cleaned his plate ;) Lorrie (hope I'm remembering her name correctly, but posting receipt she wrote her name on because she) deserves accolades for such fantastic service and conversation. She went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and even gave suggestions on breakfast in the area when we inquired; she is a true gem!

Eric B.

Yelp
We decided to hit the Reata for a working lunch with some contacts in Alpine. Its a nice historical building that has a western atmosphere and pays homage to Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean.... love the classics. Get there early for lunch because this place is pretty popular and fills up quick. I decided to get something light and went with the tenderloin tacos... the meat was cooked to perfection! Nice and juicy! Place in the little soft Tortillas with a little pico, chives, sour cream and salsa, these little tacos hit the spot!!! Just enough to fill you up but not enough to make you unbuckle your belt. If youre looking for a popular historical place to eat.. ya definitely have to hit up the Reata.

Kiet B.

Yelp
We made reservations for an early dinner and we were definitely not impressed. My wife ordered a pasta dish which was subpar for $27. It was very oily tasting. I've tasted better from grocery store microwave pasta. I had the $27 chicken fried steak which was extremely tough with cold bland gravy. The waitress got my wife's order wrong and also forgot about my drink refill, there was never an apology or an option given to correct the order issue. I'm usually pretty easy going about issues at restaurants but at these prices everything should be spot on. This was our first and last visit.

Yelp
We rolled through town on a motorcycle road trip after camping in Big Bend for days. We wanted a hot shower and some good food. Let me tell you we definitely got the good food at Reata. Of course, I relied on my Yelpers to make our dinner choice. Definitely call and make a reservation. This place fills up quick and we stopped in a Wednesday night. Our only choice was sitting in the bar and you can tell by the decor it was cool with us. Beer was cold and staff very friendly. I had the chicken fried steak and was it amazing!!! One of the better I've had. I savored every bite. The mashed potatoes were obviously homemade and just as good. Now the beans I had were just ok but not bad at all. One of the guys had the burger and said it was remarkable. I ended the night with their pecan pie. WOW !! So scrumptious. Flaky crust and out of this world flavors! If you come through town you won't go wrong stopping here.

Yelp
Cheese Enchilada plate: sauce is more of a sweet red mole sauce, not red chili sauce, it was a little too sweet for us. Heat level a little low, cheese was barely melted. Beans and rice served on plate. Beans would be better served in a cup. The rice was a plain rice pilaf with bits of asparagus. Tasty, but not the expected spanish rice, and only about 1/3 of a cup. A little chintzy for a rice side. Fortunately we were not too hungry. A few tortilla chips would be appreciated. The bread was very sweet and was ok on it's own as a dessert, but too sweet for bread. The servers were working their tails off. They were pleasant and helpful, but they need more help. The atmosphere is cozy, west Texas chic, reservations are probably a good idea as there is limited space.

William H.

Yelp
We had dinner here one evening and the food was very good. Even though the restaurant was busy, the service was excellent. We would definitely eat here again.

Doug F.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 6 at 8:00 for inside! The hostess greeted us as rudely as I've ever been greeted at a restaurant. We waited outside for our table as directed and she finally stuck her head out screamed our name and screamed "outside is all I have!" As we went outside she peeled off and we proceeded outside u til she raised her voice again letting us know NOT to go ahead. By the time our waitress even reached us the night was definitely off to a very rough start. 30 minutes in, still no appetizers. Appetizers began trickling out. 2 salads, then 5 minutes later 2 warm appetizers, then 5 minutes layers the cup of tortilla soup. The skin on the cream gravy was so thick you could tell it had been sitting there a while. No explanation, no apology. Entrees rolled out the same way. A couple here a couple there and then finally the last two. The taste was good but the meal experience was not up to par at all. I'm writing this as we sit and wait on our starters. I'll add details about the food after the meal.

Yelp
((((READ BEFORE DINING)))) This was our first time to dîne here. We recently moved to terlingua and were looking foward to dining here for quite sometime. The ambiance was nice as was the friendly server, that is as far as it went. Our wine glasses came out filthy as the wine droplets stuck to the side of the glass inside, the biscuits were delicious the first time the next round requested were dry and burnt. As we waited for our meal, the table beside us got calamari and the fishy smell was so bad it was in the air . That is not how fresh calamari smells and can't believe the guest were eating it. Finally our food came out and it was disastrous my wife's salmon was dry and overcooked her rice was cold and corn just average. My son ordered a pasta dish that was very bland and had no flavor I thought it was him but no I tasted it and it was horrid, the lady told us it was a white wine sauce which was inaccurate because you could not taste the reduced white wine no flavors of seasong just overcooked watery buttery noodles,FYI my boy loves white wine reduced pasta. Next my dish the asada with enchiladas was good but lacked sauce as my rice was cold as well and here's the big thing who and I mean who decided rice with ginger would be great on a Mexican dish it was inedible was just a very poor decision on the chefs behalf, the lady said they only make one rice of the day and that simply is inexcusable unless you're cooking at home for your own palate. We thought gringos food was bad but this place was right there with them. The owner needs to have a sit-down with the prep chef and executive chef about food temps , freshness of seafood, preparation and last cleanliness of wine glasses. Just look at there posted pics of the asada enchiladas every pic is different preperations , plating and crema on top which mine never had, inconsistent. If you find yourself and guest in Alpine do not be fooled by the stars on this establishment they are either from people that love bad calamari or locals that haven't been out and tasted what the world has to offer. One family came in and were told they were packed and let's just say as they walked out I talked to them and their children and said they were not missing out and three miles down the road there was a restaurant called Spicewood which supercedes Reata by leaps and bounds as I tell this to anyone reading this. Even Sazzon has better quality food and I feel there service is not that great but would dîne there because their great menu and tres leches cake(In-house made). Any how take what you want with this post what do I know I'm sure the owner and chef are pondering the thought. Well I'm a retired executive chef that has been preparing many cultural dishes for over 25+ years. Spice wood and Sazzon are as good as it gets in alpine , I you have a large group than Spice wood as Sazzon it not setup to entertain a party of 5+ without dishes coming ot in an untimely order eating in front of your guest while they wait for their dish or eat a cold dish , but as long as it's a small table your good other than that Spice wood has a beautiful ambiance with gorgeous mountain views and cocktails that will have you craving more especially they're smoked old fashion. I hope this helps you on your venture out here in Alpine with your loved ones and guest. Do not be fooled by the antiquish building and decor that's as far as it goes. This actually reminds me to cancel the Mother's day reservation I made there . Take care and godbless.

Yelp
We eat here every time we're in Alpine. We prefer to eat in the bar area ( next to the tree if possible) I always have the tortilla soup . My wife had the beef enchiladas and loved them

Yelp
The Reata Restaurant is in a cool old house with artwork on the walls. I tried the citrus crusted chicken with rosemary honey mustard sauce and it was delicious!

Yelp
Was staying in Alpine and apparently this was the go-to place for a nice date night. Reservations are currently required. Ambiance - Very Texas steakhouse-y, typical of West Texas. Service - Efficient and attentive. They have a limited COVID19 menu. Food - We had the chicken fried steak and Penne Pasta with Grilled Shrimp in Alfredo Sauce. Both were decent but nothing outstanding. Also had the azul margarita which was very sweet, but that was to be expected. Overall, nothing special but it's probably one of the few places in Alpine for finer-dining. I felt like it was a bit too expensive, but once was enough for me.

Yelp
GREAT AMBIANCE! GREAT SERVICE! The onion ring appetizer was very good and my husband and I enjoyed our chicken fried chicken. The best though was the buttermilk pecan pie, very light and not to sweet. Oh and the old fashions were very good also. NOTE: Restaurants in Alpine are not open every day. We happened to go on a Wednesday night to this one without reservations but they still seated us.

Yelp
After reading a few reviews, we took note, and when we were 20 minutes out of Alpine made a 6:30 reservation. We were immediately brought to our table. The server, Joseph, arrived with a friendly smile and took our drink orders while we surveyed the menu. It's a one page menu but a good variety of entrees, appetizers and desserts to select from. Since we are on vacation and didn't want take home we asked if they do split orders. Yes, they do and do the split in the kitchen. Mom and I shared the chicken fried chicken and it was served with corn, mashed potatoes and gravy. It came out hot and tasty. My sisters split the chicken fried steak and served with mashed potatoes and gravy. They also ordered a side of jalapeno macaroni and cheese which was split between the 4 of us with a generous serving for all. Again, based on previous reviews I asked for biscuits. YUMMY Pecan honey biscuits. They are on the sweet side so we didn't need desserts and also because we were full. They didn't charge extra for the split orders nor for the biscuits. All in all a welcoming place to enjoy a tasty dinner in Alpine.

Yelp
There's no other place to consider eating than Reata in Alpine, Texas. It's the best in West Texas. The bread is out of this world. We had the tamale appetizer and then had the enchiladas, citrus chicken and steak tacos and weee blown away. We were even considering coming back to eat here on our way out of Big Bend. We are from Fort Worth and never tried that Reata location either, however that's on our list. Thank you for a great experience.

Yelp
Okay, this place has character. There's deer mounts on the wall wearing masks, paintings of cows, and heavy wooden tables. We called in a reservation for the 5 of us last Tuesday. (They had outside seating as well, but we were told it was fly season, so we opted inside). Our server was helpful and gave us many suggestions (like my roomie and I splitting the Reata's salad, more on that later...). My friends had said that the drinks were good and strong. To start off with, my friend had a cup of the tortilla soup which was literally like a bowl and we had to try an order of the calf fries (on my bucket list- dont ask). It came out hot and topped with onion rings. They are interesting... the first bite good, the second not so much, the second calf fry better than the first. Definitely not like chicken, not like seafood with a gamey aftertaste. Would I get them again? I don't know. Unfortunately, close to $10 is a lot just to try something you're not sure you'll like and should come in smaller sample sizes. The menu was a little more extensive than what is found online and consisted of a variety of burgers (noticed a teen boy at the table next to us barely even touched his burger before he and his family left), enchiladas, salads, chicken fried steak, and blackened salmon- to name a few things. Our table got two of the seasonal pasta (sun dried tomato and chicken with a side of cheesy garlic bread) that were absolutely massive, the field greens salad topped with steak (our server's suggestion), goat cheese, and candied pecans, and a split order of the Reata's Salad Bowl for $9.95 (which was a good choice to!). Prices ranged from reasonable to a little more expensive depending on the item. Reata's salad consisted of a pasta, ranch, a subtle pecan mash, romaine, chicken, and supposed to have a pesto sauce. It seemed like a lot of food at the time, but was ready for a snack around midnight or so. 2021 #21

Yelp
This place is incredible! Whenever my hubby and I come through Alpine, we try to get to this place. Ambiance is cool and drinks are tasty. We've had chicken fried steak a couple times and it is exceptional. It's hard not to get it every time!
