Rau Bistro: Vietnamese Street Food

Such a cute Vietnamese restaurant with authentic food that I grew up with! We have always ordered through Uber from this place but this was my first time in restaurant with friends. We ordered the 7 course beef and Fondue #1. We LOVED the salads but really, EVERYTHING was delicious! The coconut jello was such a refreshing finish to the meal. 10/10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rau Bistro is my favourite neighbourhood Vietnamese joint. The Banana Flower Salad is exquisite - with its unique texture and refreshing orange and passionfruit sauce - topped with their delicious house made chili sauce. The La Lot Beef appetizer is always on point, accompanied by the fresh herbs and mini vermicelli wraps. Hubby and I are also big fans of their vermicelli bowls, and I love the tamarind peanut soda drink. The food is consistently amazing and it nourishes the soul. We also love the warm atmosphere and friendly service. 10/10! Update: After subsequent visits to Rau, they continue to exceed expectations with quality food and excellent service. Must try their lychee bubble tea - wow!!!

yet another great viet restaurant. huge food variety, and my favorite vermicelli has three different types of protein as well as plenty of grazed veggies. the place seems to be converted from a Korean BBQ, watch for gas pipes under the tables. lots of mirrors that make the place look a lot larger than it is. cozy and comfortable. a nook for reading or playing board games. fast and friendly service. will definitely go back. the coconut jelly is a must try.

Hmm…. Foods looks fabulous and tastes really good. A little bit pricier than other pho places, but I think it’s worth the price. Friendly servers, but when we walked in at 9pm, she told us that we only 5 mins to order before the kitchen closes, but their restaurant open till 11pm, and there are 2 other tables of customers just came in…..? Later when we got our foods she apologized that she has the time mixed up. That’s fine. The waitress seem surprised when I asked for some small plates to share and forks for all my caucasian friends. But she was nice and fulfilled the request. Anyway, everybody on my table enjoyed their foods/drinks/desserts very much. Definitely would come back again to try other items on their menu. *Just little reminder, the heat in the restaurant was really hot. I was sweating the whole time. May be I was just sitting under the vent.

I've never been a big fan of Vietnamese food personally but I think I've finally found the reason to think otherwise. This place is truly a hidden gem that offers your classic phos and subs but also quite a few other authentic dishes you may not have seen on other menus (bonus: there's some great vegan options available too!) I ordered delivery for my first time and was a bit worried about the food being cold by the time it arrived but everything was SO fresh and crispy despite it being near closing time as well. We tried the mega vermicelli bowl and their beef sub. Both were incredibly tasty and the bowl in particular was a great bang for your buck. It comes with four different protein options, crispy rolls, fresh veggies that complement the dish so well, a sweet fish sauce (not sure what it's called but it's similar to nước chấm) and the most delicious vermicelli I've ever had. Overall, a very pleasant surprise. Will definitely be trying out more! I'm looking at you, tamarind soup 👀

One of the best! Green papaya salad (Goi Du Du) served with beef jerky was absolutely delicious! Great sharing appetizer course. First time trying a Tamarind Seafood soup (Bun Canh Chua Thap Cam), and I was absolutely blown away. I have not seen this on any other menu in the city. Great portions of seafood in the soup. The satay beef pho is also top notch. Also had the Bun Mam here in the past, I would love for it to be brought back. Overall 10/10!

Walking in, I love the restaurant set-up, it felt open and modern. Lots of sunlight in the restaurant making it bright photogenic. The food was 9/10 for me. To me, it seems they took traditional Vietnamese food and add a little creativity to it. I had the Wrap & Roll #2. My favorite was the shrimp paste on sugar cane. I wouldn't recommended if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese food, since you basically make your own roll. My partner had the R1 Com Tam and he said it was really good. It came with a small salad, which is different than the traditional way. We didn't like that the egg whites wasn't cooked all the way on the sunny side up. Our friend had the TN2 Mi Quang Ga, he said he liked it and the portion was good. I do think the service could improve a bit, like taking initiative to guide customers on how to eat the dish, or providing more information to help customers decide on their order. The dining experience was overall great. I would totally recommend!

The food here was delicious! We tried the vegan and regular version of the seafood tamarind soup. The portion size was massive and enough for a second meal. Loved the chilli oil they had available at the table as well. I’ll definitely be back!!

This is a hidden gem! You would never guess there was a restaurant in this strip mall that is so unique. They take a spin on Vietnamese and have their own flair with a modern touch Salad rolls to start were large portions, rice paper was made to perfection, generous portion and very nice plating We got * Bung Mang Ga noodle soup with chicken thigh, bamboo, mushroom, vermicelli with green salad on side with a ginger sauce * Mega Bowl, shrimp, beef, chicken, sausage and spring rolls * The only thing we didn't enjoy was the coconut jelly. The texture was to gelatin like and not enough rich flavor Service was very good Bathrooms clean Would recommend!

Fusion Vietnamese restaurant-of the handful of dishes we ordered, the curry pho was tasty. We also ordered beef pho, pork and shrimp pho, and spring rolls which were also ok though not particularly memorable. Nice restaurant with comfortable seating and good service.

Had Rau Bistro on my list of places to try as they specialize in bo 7 mon. They're in the same plaza as Sucre Patisserie & Cafe. We dropped in on a fairly busy Wednesday evening (8:00pm). Every Wednesday is 10% off vermicelli dishes. Minimal service; they never came by to check in or offer water refills. - Herbs - basil, mint, shredded cabbage and lemon wedges. - Bun bo hue (#7) ($17.00) - surprisingly decent kick to their BBH. Broth was comforting. Meats included beef shank, sliced beef, pork balls and pork blood. - Bo 7 mon ($65.00) - beef seven ways is a rare dish (only found it at one place in Vancouver). It easily fed our group of three. We were each given an anchovy dipping sauce and nuoc cham. Beef congee (light, homey), papaya salad with beef jerky (jerky slightly dry), marinated beef salad (kale and tomato were different, beef was tender), steamed giant meatballs (excellent), grilled la lot beef (have had better), grilled satay beef (solid) and vinaigrette beef fondue. Would come back to try their fondue combo and bun rieu.

They have some pretty decent Vietnamese food! As a person who doesn't love Vietnamese food that much since I grew up eating it all the time, this place was actually pretty yummy!

Delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Vermicelli was divine, with perfectly cooked shrimp and crunchy rolls. Lovely, attentive staff.

I love rau bistro. They were located in 4th street and reopened in November 2021 at this new location in centre st. They have a new menu but still carry everybody's favorites. I recommend their bah mi, chicken pho, and the 7 beef course meal. All the crunchy appetizers are also really outstanding. The chicken wings are a must try for sure. There flavors are very different from any other Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary.

I am ambivalent regarding Rau. It was not a great meal but neither was it a bad meal. Authenticity is not synonymous with quality. Most notable to me was the just how stingy they were with the shrimp in the salad rolls. No other Vietnamese restaurant puts that little. All I could taste was lettuce and rice noodles. It was flimsy and fell apart. I ordered the Mega Bowl Vermicelli. The noodles were overcooked and not fully drained. The shrimp were excellent but the meat, particularly the chicken, was very much dried out. This was seriously lacking in flavour. The chili oil was not very hot and was too dry, not enough oil. Flavour was good. Three bucks for a soft drink is ridiculous when virtually every nearby Vietnamese is $1.75 or $2.00. However, even though it came up short on flavour, the price of the vermicelli was reasonable. There are better nearby. Check out the Vietnamese Chop Chop across from Lina's. On a closing note, right at 11:00 PM, like clockwork, they came up said they were closed and started mopping the floors around us. I almost tripped on the wet floor. I am sorry but we were already on our way out. This is pure rudeness. They feign seniors sensitivity with a paltry 3 selections which is the same 3 for the kids menu. It is not very wheelchair accessible, a very tight fit. I will not return. I miss the days when the premises housed the Happy Hill.

Authentic Vietnamese restaurant. It offers variety of foods with generous portions. Friendly services. I definitely recommend it. If you have a chance, try the Rose Naugat.

Food was really good We had the 7 meat course, vermicelli chicken +bamboo, tamarind chicken wings, springs rolls (made with banh Trang) and papaya salad - all really good! We ordered so much off the menu! Our server was so accommodating and friendly. Will definitely return

Second time at Rau Bistro they did a slight facelift from the previous restaurant. Added lots of little cute decor and made it feel more warm and welcoming. Great service and food was really good. They improved on food preparation time compared to the grand opening, assuming it was new, and they worked out the kinks. Hubby had the curry soup which he enjoyed and said he would order again. I the tossed noodles, not a common dish at other Vietnamese restaurants.

Very unique, fresh and tasty Vietnamese food. The Salad rolls are huge. The spring rolls are extra crispy and you can get them with extra greens on the side so you can make your own Spring roll lettuce wraps. The shrimp and cuttlefish vermicelli bowl was perfect. Highly recommend.
