Wow, this place is a hoot. Even got to meet Randy himself. This place is like a somewhat organized chaotic painted junkyard. There is just everything there. Toys, furniture, signs, tools, equipment, and more. Randy is very eclectic and likely missing a screw or two, but it is an artistic sight to see. And it’s all FREE. If you have a few minutes or more, take the time to check it out for yourself.

Google
We have been here twice. The first time we were able to actually talk to Randy himself. What a nice guy! This place is free and full of unique, eclectic, and unique art that has been collected and painted over decades. This is definitely something to see if you’re ever in Pittsburgh.

Google
I discovered Randyland on blogs while looking for unique and fun things to do while visiting Pittsburgh. It was a wonderful experience. There are so many unique items and creative, beautiful, unique, and awe-inspiring artwork. It was free to visit however they do except donations and sell merchandise. Everything is on an honor system. We spent about 20 minutes there however we could’ve spent much longer. The neighborhood is very nice with a lot of beautiful historic homes and a wonderful park close by.

Google
We spent only half hour visiting here, but Randyland was definitely an amazing attraction in Pittsburgh. I can see how much the house owner love his life and the world. There was a lovely sand playground for kids and many dynamic paintings and decorations. It was also free for visitors and nobody guarding. Visitors could buy some souvenirs and make some donations for this lovely place.

Visiting Randyland was an unforgettable experience. The explosion of colors and creativity at every corner was mesmerizing. Randy's free spirit shines through each vibrant mural and eclectic art installation, creating a joyful haven. His dedication to spreading positivity and transforming everyday objects into extraordinary pieces of art is inspiring. Randy's work reflects his passion for community and his belief in the power of positivity, which motivates me to pursue my own creative ventures and not conform to the conventional. Randyland is a testament to the power of creativity and community. If you're ever in Pittsburgh, this is a must-see spot that will leave you feeling uplifted and motivated to embrace your own creative path.

Randyland is a magical part of Pittsburgh's Northside. It is a free, outdoor, public art installation by Randy Gilson, who lives nearby and oftentimes pops in to talk and share stories of his life and the reason he made Randyland. There is so much to see that you will probably miss something the first time. More art is constantly being made, too. Randyland is also kid-friendly. There is a small area where you can purchase Randyland themed gifts and/or make donations for the care and upkeep. It's truly one of Pittsburgh 's treasures. Please go visit! Thank you, Randy!

Ren H.

Yelp
It's an art wonderland at Randyland! A small outdoor space that's free and open to the public during their opening hours. I was able to take my dog through the gate to explore which was great. Not much time is needed to check out the unique art created but a fun stop nonetheless!

Yelp
Super crazy cool art installation, clean freaks do not go, as it gets messy/dirty in the back from years of usage and viewing. Really great concept though that everything and everyone deserves love and happiness!!!

Yelp
Randyland, located in the North Side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an art museum widely recognized as one of America's most colorful public art landmarks. Founded by Randy Gilson, it features found object art and has contributed significantly to Pittsburgh's cultural revival, alongside neighbors like City of Asylum and the Mattress Factory. Gaining international attention through viral listicles, Randyland has become one of the most photographed spots on Instagram.

Andrea T.

Yelp
Randyland is a whimsical free public art park in Pittsburgh. It is so colorful and fun. Walking around you can tell the care and large amount of work that went into RandyLand. There is ample street parking and RandyLand is not difficult to find. It is a park that appeals to both the young and old.

Shayna H.

Yelp
A unique and free artistic wonderland created by Randy Gilson. Randy takes what others may see as trash and turns it into a beautiful, colorful wonderland in his own backyard. Everywhere you look is something fascinating that Randy took the time to give a new home. It can take you between 5-20 minutes to look through depending on your interest in this unique style of art. It really brightened my day and I hope it will brighten yours as well!

Kendoll C.

Yelp
very hard to capture the magic & beauty of Randyland in words- quite a meaningful experience. One the outside, it's gorgeous public art, but it is really more than that; on the inside, it's a haven for passion, where oddities aren't really that odd, where kindness, inspiration, and importance is spread-reminding to smile & not worry- a must-visit, I highly suggest taking the time to not only enjoy the impressive repurposing of discarded items- the small details are fantastic- but also read the messages, scripts, and articles posted about to fully appreciate & understand

Heidi M.

Yelp
Clever, creative outdoor wonder!! We stopped by on a snowy cold, winter day and it was a fun 10 mins of exploring outside ! What a charming bright space! A must see!

Jacques I.

Yelp
Randyland is a must-see experience in Pittsburgh. This outdoor gallery of artwork invites all to visit and celebrate upcycled artwork at no cost. However, donations are welcomed and you can even buy some small souvenirs here when you visit. But there is no financial barrier for anyone to see the colorful artwork of Randyland. Randyland was started by Randy Gilson who purchased the property and used upcycled goods to decorate his space, which eventually turned into this colorful, outdoor gallery that brings joy to so many that visit here. There's a welcome wall in many languages, painted quotes throughout the space that reminds us to spread kindness among each other and a deposit box for all your worries! You can't help but smile when you walk around the space. It's open everyday until 7PM. Randyland is located in the Northside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, and is walking distance to Mattress Factory and a few blocks down the main road, towards downtown, there were a few restaurants. For a perfect day in Pittsburgh, Randyland should be included in your itinerary.

Diana F.

Yelp
Holy smokes this place is a must see!! Randy did an amazing job of creating a beautiful, inclusive, magical space. There aren't a ton of things to buy and no one was there but we got a bracelet, a pin, there were clocks, mugs, and other cool things you could self pay as souvenirs. I would say it is free to look around so it's a great value, an amazing sight to see, and the items for sale were affordable. Go check it out. There are rarely other places like this.

Bruce K.

Yelp
"What is useless to one person is valuable to another." - English saying I am a little sad that I didn't get to talk to Randy when I stopped by but I definitely enjoyed exploring Randyland. It's absolutely one man's obsession and it's an impressive collection of repurposed stuff that other people have discarded. Repainted, repaired, displayed, this is bright colors and lots of small details that might be easy to miss. A half hour is plenty of time to explore Randyland, take a bunch of photos and visit their small honor-system gift shop. I have a new fridge magnet! Super awesome to visit this unique Pittsburgh attraction that shouldn't be missed when you see the city. [Review 20432 overall - 641 in Pennsylvania - 1411 of 2023.]

Yelp
Randyland was inspired by a neighborhood littered with trash and old belongings. We spent about 20-30 minutes here and bought some merch. It would be cool if Randy himself sold some art pieces too! It is free admission, but there's a donation box and the merch sold is mostly stickers, magnets, shirts, etc. Parking was easy for us on a weekday (street parking only). Look up the story and the inspiration behind it and you'll see Randyland in a whole new way.

Bella B.

Yelp
A beautiful experience of art, creativity, positivity and love. Randyland is such a welcoming, beautiful place. The interesting painting and found objects art is very unique. There's so many positive messages sprinkled throughout the garden and around his home. The window mirror had me tearing up. I was so moved by everything here. The best part is it's free to visit! I highly recommend you donate or grab some souvenirs because this place deserves the love. Randyland is a perfect place to visit to lift your spirits and feel some calm.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
This was my first ever visit to Randyland but I have been wanting to come for some time. It is a definite must see stop if you are in the area. This is a person's home and not a museum so please keep that in mind. It is pretty awesome all the items Randy has collected and displayed. Everything is in such interesting places. There's different sections of categories like chairs, chandeliers and musical instruments. My kids got to go in a phone booth! Also they got to see and try out a rotary phone. The floor is thin (1 inch layer maybe) of sand so if you don't want to get it on your feet wear shoes.

Denise W.

Yelp
Just check out this colorful place and it is free. You can leave a donation if you want

Kate H.

Yelp
To be at Randyland is to experience joy. Inspiring messages. Bright Colors. Wonderful memories. Free love for all who visit. I cannot recommend enough. Walking around the neighborhood, there are so many other little gardens, murals and nooks. My top spot to visit in Pittsburgh.

Tabitha C.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, such a treasure to have discovered Randy's art that I never knew of! Stopped to go to the Mattress Factory and had a better time and showing of art with Randy which was free! There is street parking, neighborhood area and in mexican war streets part of north side. Randy stops to talk to visitors and is a must to listen to - truly is inspiring to hear him talk so genuinely on the human experience! His willingness to be so open about his life, his limitations (that he has not allowed to be limitations) and his open minded view of art and the world is soul awakening! I encourage all to visit, truly made my day! You go, Randy! Your messages will inspire all who come to see your beautiful work, so wholesome and incredible person.

Lauren K.

Yelp
Randyland is so fun and special to Pittsburgh! Free (but donations accepted), Randyland is an outdoor emporium art gallery of found objects by artist Randy Gilson. He sources unique objects and assembles them into an eclectic outdoor arts maze. Randyland is fun. You could do it in an hour. There's free street parking on the surrounding streets and the experience is self-guided. Go in with no expectations and just take in the colors, the weirdness, the fun, the nostalgia, and all the hard work put into assembling this truly special and interesting place. Part of this outdoor exhibition is sand but you can easily avoid it. Go on a nice day because there's no protection from the elements! I loved the LGBTQ+ positive themes throughout the gallery and the commitment to the community. You'll leave feeling inspired, happy, and thinking differently about how you view everyday objects. A must stop while on your Pittsburgh trip!

Alisha S.

Yelp
This is the most adorable free little "museum." It's beautiful. Definitely make sure to read Randy's backstory. It's very sweet. I loved all the colors and little hidden artifacts in it. Everywhere you look there's something new to see. I feel like you will never see EVERYTHING that's there without noticing something you didn't see before. Make sure to check this place out! Buy some merch or leave a tip for all of Randy's hard work.

Brian M.

Yelp
Wonderful and weird is the best way to describe this funky collection. Walking though his yard is like walking though a twisted mind of unusual thoughts. Great place to take fun pictures.

Niki M.

Yelp
Awesome local flavor. Cool colors. Cool story. My favorite was the brass instruments hanging from the pergola.

Harish V.

Yelp
Randyland's kaleidoscope of colors and imaginative sculptures truly transport visitors to a whimsical world. The attention to detail in each piece reflects Randy's artistic prowess and dedication. The outdoor space is filled with surprises, and every corner seems to unveil a new visual delight. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a cheerful escape, Randyland is a delightful adventure that sparks joy and leaves you with a smile. Don't miss this vibrant oasis in the midst of Baltimore's urban landscape!

Chelsea G.

Yelp
Wow, what an interesting sight to see of painted and arranged repurposed items. If you decide to visit here, you HAVE TO speak to Randy (the creator) and his story behind his art. It gives you a proper perspective and understanding behind his work and vision. Things you should know: I. PARKING This house and garden is within a neighborhood. So that's right, that means neighborhood street parking only. Good luck paralleling. II. SERVICE Admission into the garden is FREE. Talk to Randy if he's there, you won't regret it. III. QUALITY Subjective, like any and all art. IV. CAPACITY There's a steady flow of people coming and going.

Sanjay G.

Yelp
Randyland brings sunshine to Pittsburgh even on the dreariest days. its small house come museum, full of bright colors. It's been bringing smiles to visitors' faces since 1995 when Gilson originally bought the building using funds he had earned as a part-time waiter and proceeded to decorate it with repurposed trash. Randy Gilson has transformed his home into a colorful, living work of art. (i saw him though) Randyland is free to visit, but donations are accepted. It's located in the heart of the Mexican War Streets neighborhood, and it's only a short walk from the Mattress Factory, another popular art museum on the North Side. The museum is open from 10 a.m. until dusk (around 7 p.m. typically), and there is street parking available nearby. Murals providing dozens of Instagram-ready backdrops, practically everybody who visits Randyland leave in a much better mood than they arrived in.

Deanna P.

Yelp
We've visited here several times and are never disappointed. This art therapy outdoor museum is a one of a kind place. You can visit many times and there's always something new to see. The honor system "store" has expanded a lot over a couple of years. The messaging is the same, with new flavors and themes based on the time of year/season. I love going here. It's bright, fun, inclusive, and has real life positive messaging. My kids love it too. Bonus - it's the ultimate place to play "I spy"...

Shawn R.

Yelp
Walk in and out trail when I child more play now no more look out space earth safe life experience recycling family Server life keep continuing dream won't stop doing and proud to look up some one to know key is home and family support neighbors they can do same for all of us have faith come true love one won't stop forever keep proud faith can do it love you all. Randyland keeps positive vibes proud family love to all family caring.

Cassie M.

Yelp
Such a fun, quirky, quick stop! We loved it. It's so unique & random. Plus it's free, so really can't go wrong if you're in the area!

Sydney G.

Yelp
While some reviews disagree with my comments, I think (like most things) not everyone is going to understand this. I also think that if Randy himself wasn't there when they visited and/or if they didn't pick up a pamphlet that explains Randyland, they have no grounding of context. Advice, do your research first or better yet, actually walk around the spaces and read stuff! People like to poop on things they fail to try and understand. That being said, if after you do read and learn you still don't care for it, that's fine. I don't care for "traditional" art museums cause they make no sense to me, but to see someone repurpose things, that I can get behind. Super neat place. When I first saw it some time back on social media, it reminded me of that one seen in the Harriet The Spy movie (if you know you know). It is pretty much like that minus the interactive elements. I appreciated Randy being there sharing why and how he has done what he has done. Randy seems like a good human and I am glad he created and shared this with everyone. Oh and parking is trash.....it is a residential, city, areas. Plan accordingly.

Megan Y.

Yelp
You've definitely never seen or been to any place like this before. It's hard to even put into words what Randyland is. It's colorful and loud and electric and really just doesn't make any sense, but that's what's great about it. Just go and see it for yourself. It's free, but donations are accepted. Randy may also come out to speak to everyone and you'll see that he is also colorful and loud and electric and that Randyland truly is an extension of Randy himself. A lot of attractions in Pittsburgh are walkable. I actually walked here after visiting the Andy Warhol museum, but it would also be a short walk from the National Aviary. If you're driving, you could easily find street parking nearby.

Alexis B.

Yelp
Randyland is hard to define/describe. I guess it's a public art landmark? Randy Gilson has turned his property into a kind of outdoor public art gallery. He found and saved/upcycled (including by dumpster diving) items and oddities and placed them into the outdoor space between a few homes. There are dolls, toys, stuffed animals, mannequins, painted signs, ... there's a little bit of everything, really! You can't miss Randyland. You'll know it when you see it. It's definitely a passion project for Randy, and it's worth stopping by to see this strange and hard to describe site in Pittsburgh! If you have a bit of time, stop by and wander and photograph!

Heather S.

Yelp
Oh Randy this is so dandy! :) Are you looking for a unique and one of a kind experience? Randyland is your spot. Trust me. If you like art and expression of self, go here. There are actually no words in the dictionary to describe the creative bear hug you will receive from this. Bright colors bursting everywhere, strange and everyday objects turned into an art instillation. This is by donation so make sure to have some extra dollars in your pocket. We were only able to see the art yard not the house as well. You would be silly to miss this. Full stop.

Les R.

Yelp
We kept hearing about "Randyland". Have you been to Randyland? Are you going to Randyland? You have to go checkout Randyland. Each time I was like what the ____ is a Randyland? The Internet describes as: "An Outdoor Museum, A Yard Filled With LOTS Of Recycled, Repurposed, Found, Dumpster TREASURES, PAINTED IN 100s OF HAPPY BRIGHT COLORS. Kinda Like A Misfit Puzzle, Resembles The Owner." Also, described as a courtyard museum "and the most painted house in the galaxy". Recommend by friends and locals, we were not disappointed. I see what everyone was talking about. It has a creative, artsy, hippy, community vibe and has such good, fun, energy to the place. We found street parking and just walked down. You gotta check it out if you are visiting or even a local who hasn't experienced it. Just look at some of the pics. It's worth the trip and I bet you find a new detail on every visit.

Cynthia F.

Yelp
LOVE Randyland. Could return many times and still enjoy it. So much to see; inspirational signs everywhere. Great for all ages. Lots of activities for small children. Free street parking.

Kelsey R.

Yelp
One of the coolest places in the city. Not a hidden gem since everyone has known about it, but it a i've never been here when it's busy or anything. Awesome place!!! Never seen anything like this in another city

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Very unique and interesting free outdoor museum. It is made up of a bunch of toys combined together into a large visual and created into "art." A bit overwhelming at first but I could see the beauty of it. "Another man's trash is another man's treasure." If you're in the area, it is definitely worth stopping by for a quick 10-15 minute visit. There is a donation box set up. Street parking available up to 1 hour.

Ken L.

Yelp
This is a very very cool spot in town! It's so colorful and whimsical and you would never expect to find something like this in the middle of town. I love how inclusive it is and how it symbolizes healing not only for Randy but for all visitors. It's not very big so it's a nice little walk around to see the whole exhibit. The only thing is up the stairs, there is a port a potty that smelled. It's very community centric since there were a lot of people just sitting and hanging out when we went. There's giant sunflowers that I loved outside the exhibit too. Definitely a cool place to take people visiting from out of town!

Cianah H.

Yelp
Randyland is such a unique and cool place to visit! It's not an all day event, usually people are there for only like 20 minutes but even if you were there for 3 hours, you still wouldn't see everything there because there's so much to look at! It's a very exciting and vibrant place to be! It is free, but you can always donate via cash or PayPal. Reading some of the negative reviews on this place makes me upset. A lot of people saying "worst 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back" "it's just a bunch of useless junk" "I'd never want to live next to this house" How sad. This may not be your cup of tea, but art is and always will be interpreted in many different ways. Plus, all of the material is recycled and is a part of this wonderful museum instead of being in landfill and/or polluting the ocean. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you're ever in town!

Cheyenne Y.

Yelp
Definitely a must if you're in Pittsburgh! Randyland is different than anything you'll see before, it's colorful and fun and FREE!

M B.

Yelp
Go! Go now! And buy a magnet to support this beautiful place! Its free! Its a def labor of love! If you cant appreciate someone's hard work, effort and creativity...this is not the place for you. This is my kind of place! Pics don't do it justice! But my pics of this place do bring me happy memories!

Danielle D.

Yelp
This was the whole purpose for my visit to Pittsburg. I'm an artist and art teacher and I found it such a inspiration. Don't expect to spend a lot of time here but do expect to be wowed by the color and creativity.

Spencer S.

Yelp
I love living right down the street from this little gem! Open from dawn to dusk, you'll often find families and kids admiring and playing among the statues/sculptures. Randy and his team do a really good job at maintaining the place and making little updates periodically. Be sure to stop in when you're on the Northside!

Dasko K.

Yelp
pretty interesting place to spend a few minutes. Visit the randyland gift store to get shirts/stickers

Arthur K.

Yelp
It's a beautiful place. I thought ok This is cute, this is spunky and great but Then RANDY CAME OUT !! and when he stated talking, the creation of "Randyland" started to make more sense. He's like your crazy uncle, that's really funny and wholesome. or he's your embarrassing uncle but you still love him cuz he's sweet The enjoyment out of Randyland, depends on how Open minded you are as a person, imo. It's not a luxury attraction or anything like that, but it's a culmination of this guys work. He's a loud zany and interesting fellow, and listening to him was like listening to a young kid Talk about something he loves. 5 Stars because Randy is awesome.

Richard C.

Yelp
This place is cool and interesting! It's a wonderland of trash turned into art and other creative things

Natalie B.

Yelp
Randy is an icon! The purest definition of a Pittsburgher- artistic, funny, friendly, hardworking. Visiting his house felt like visiting Wonderland. Your eyes immediately light up with color and beauty. Randy spent some time with us discussing various projects. He spoke at length about finding what most people would consider garbage and making it something lovely. My favorite part was his Hello project. Painting "hello" in every language so that no matter who visited, they'd feel welcome. Randy is a legend and his house is one of the best parts of Pittsburgh.

Nini H.

Yelp
It's kooky and interesting and worth a visit to cross off your Pittsburgh bucket list but (native Pittsburghers might hate me for this) it's a little bit underwhelming. There's definitely a lot to see and plenty that'll make you "go what the )$&@ is going on here". The space was a lot smaller and cramped than I imagined. I went on a rainy day so there weren't many people around but it was still tight walking around the small yard cluttered with random things. I can only imagine what it's like on a sunny day with more people. It's does make for some pretty cool pictures I'll give it that. Took less than 30 minutes to walk around the whole outside.

Unique C.

Yelp
I've never been to any place like Randyland, and if you're reading this.. neither have you. I don't consider myself to be artsy at all, however I really enjoyed all this magical place had to offer. Randy takes random stuff and creates beautiful, unique art. Not to mention, he doesn't charge you to take a tour of his wonderful work. A donation of $1 is appreciated. It's not a very large area; however there is greatness packed in every square inch. This place has a way of making adults feel like kids again! Definitely check out Randyland if you're in Pittsburg.

Andy V.

Yelp
Randyland is probably one of the coolest and most unique places I've been to in Pittsburgh, and maybe in general. First off, it's free. Well, there is a donation box there so it's nice to give something, but I suppose it's not required. This place is like a fun house meets oddity museum meets fun house. It's a little bit of everything and nothing at all, which makes it all the more worthwhile. Randyland is a great place for anyone who likes to show off on social media. It's full of cool places to take that Instagram-worthy photo. The house is decorated with fun chairs, mannequins, mirrors, and fun ornaments. It's get to be here if the weather is nice, otherwise, you'll be a little soggy in your photos. The house is all outdoors, so don't be looking to go inside anywhere, but you'll be able to spend a decent amount of time roaming around the back yard and front portion of Randy's home. There's even a gift shop! Again, it's kind of on the honor system like paying in general. There's a sign for what each item should cost. He has t shirts, pins, mugs and more. Pay the donation amount and take your item. Randy wasn't there during my visit, or if he was, he wasn't outside, but it was a cool place to see. Pittsburgh can somewhat look a little dreary at times so all the bright colors for me was welcomed and much needed. Definitely worth checking out regardless if you're a local and/or visiting the area. This is probably one of the most fun places you'll see.

Megan M.

Yelp
Instagram picture/ reel worthy! Make sure to go with a friend so you can get some cool pictures taken! We went around 11am which is when it opens according to the hours on the yelp page. Street parking it very limited so please be courteous of others and those who live there. I took a lot of great pictures. There are quite a few mirrors you can pose in front of. An abundance of art and just an all round awesome place to stop if you're visiting Pittsburgh.
