Yelp
We had planned to stop at our regular bbq place while in SLC, but it was closed... Yelped the nearest bbq joint and ended up at R&R. Love new food adventurers, but sometimes it's a gamble.
The disappointments:
Value for price... we split the 3 meat platter once we realized we couldn't get out under $50 for two of us otherwise.
The dining area was awful to navigate with a disability that impacts mobility! Access to drink, utensils and condiment cups was iffy.
The tables were dirty! There was only one table clear (not CLEAN, just clear) when we arrived at 2:00 pm. There were only four other groups at that time. So about half the tables had not yet been cleared and still had the number and were piled with the previous occupants trays and food. Honestly, seeing the volume of uneaten food left behind me a little nervous. We also had to swipe paper towel roll and sauce caddy from one of those other tables because ours was completely out.
No corn or greens! Seriously. No collard greens, no green beans, no butter beans. Zip. Nada. Nothing. The only veggie side options were green salad and coleslaw. I reluctantly ordered the coleslaw, which also belongs in the "disappointment" list with its bland flavor and shortage of sauce.
The brisket was flavorful, and fell apart, but was super dry! There were only three pieces. When it's an extra $2.50 it *should* be the best thing in the plate. My +1 was most disappointed in this part of our meal.
What I LOVED!:
The ribs! They were a bit dry, however the fat was rendered beautifully and the bark was delicious.
The garlic mash! Perfectly seasoned, nice chunky real potatoes. Gravy was good too. Everything I hope for in a bbq mash. Muah! Perfecto.
The selection of sauces! Yum. Original, Sweet, Spicy, Carolina Gold.
What I liked:
Smoked sausage was tasty. 7 of 10 here.
The roll. Nice and fluffy, golden, great crumb. Real butter too. Not excellent, but good.
Drink selections include Sweet tea & Red Cream Soda. The sweet tea was good, but not perfect southern style sweet tea. Acceptable though.
What was unacceptable:
Lack of accessibility.
The dining area floor looked pretty gross, or so I thought until I went into the restrooms. Then I realized they weren't soo gross, comparatively. The bathroom floor was AWFUL and the whole room smelled heavily of urine. Trashcan overflowing.
The dining room trash can is NOT clearly marked, and hidden in the far back by the restrooms. This could be a contributing factor to the full dirty tables.
Staff seemed more interested in socializing than attending to customers or ensuring the cleanliness of the facility. On the plus side they were courteous and cut our food out very quickly.
Will I be back???
Sure, I'd give it another go if I'm in the area.
The desserts looked tempting. Plus I'd come during the weekday to see if it was just an off Sunday.
But equally likely that I'll chose a cleaner more accessible dining experience before checking the consistency here.
