Nestled in a serene, brick-walled haven, this omakase-only eatery delivers meticulously crafted sushi and sashimi, reflecting Chef Hiroyuki Naruke's artistry.
"Q Sushi is a very traditional omakase spot on 7th St. in a windowless, but very calm room. You’ll find fish that’s flown in from Japan daily, businessmen sitting at the bar drinking sake, and a single sushi chef who’ll hand you every cut of fish himself. It’s expensive - you’ll pay $165 for 19 courses of sushi - and doesn’t involve anything particularly unusual, but this is simple sushi done at the highest level. Q is a nice spot for a fancy night out, especially if you’ve made it your personal goal to try every good sushi place in Los Angeles." - jess basser sanders, brant cox
"One star. Chef Hiroyuki “Hiro” Naruke’s dramatically designed and intensely focused omakase restaurant in Downtown LA retains its star." - Eater Staff
"Authenticity and tradition are paramount in this little sushiya. From the moment you walk in, to the rapid succession of courses that follow, everything in this dining room seems steeped in a sense of calm. Chef Hiroyuki Naruke prepares every item and thoughtfully serves each diner. Edomae-style sushi arrives as an omakase of fish, while other courses may commence with sashimi and nigiri. Case in point—amberjack sashimi with onions and soy, where each morsel is sliced, seasoned and set before your eye. This may be tailed by nigiri such as Hokkaido scallops, kohada, and fatty tuna. The pleasure of dining here extends right to end with the simple, spongy, and fluffy block of tamago." - Michelin Inspector
"If you’re looking for a throw-down sushi experience Downtown, Q Sushi is where to go. On a busy stretch of 7th St., the windowless room is quiet, calm, and very fancy. There are a few tables up front, but you’re going to want to sit at the 10-seat bar where you get to watch one guy make your whole meal. There are only two seatings per night, and you can choose from either a $165 option or a $200 option. If you’d like to try an even more premium menu, give 48 hours advance notice and see what they come up with." - brant cox, brett keating
"Downtown Los Angeles in a word? Colorful. And in three words: loud, congested, and hectic. Which is what makes us especially grateful for the succinctly named Q Sushi. Beyond a heavy wooden door on bustling W 7th Street, Q Sushi is a transporting and utterly serene getaway in the middle of the endless energy of the city. Classical music alongside perfunctory service devoid of small talk, it’s the kind of place that lowers your blood pressure as soon as you walk in. It’s also the kind of place that was recently awarded a Michelin star for its omakase-only experience. So settle in and clear your schedule—you’ll be here for about twenty mind-blowing courses. "
