The food is great. Service is very lacking.
Came here on 9/21 around 6 pm with my boyfriend and dog. Luckily, seating for us with prompt. We got a corner outdoor seat, which was perfect since we had our dog with us. We got served water by a busser almost immediately and he told us our waiter would be with us soon. About ten minutes later, which isn't soon to me, our waiter finally arrived. Our waiter was a tan brunette. I wish I had gotten her name because she seemed irritated to even be there. No smile whatsoever. It was hard to understand her with the noise in the background and her not speaking loudly. We order all our food all at once right then and there. This detail is gonna be important for later...
The drink I ordered arrived first, which was the chicha morada. It's very tasty. Sorta tasted like some spiced cider. Our side dishes arrived shortly after. Three oysters, beef heart, ahi tuna ceviche, plantain chips, and taqueños. The ahi tuna ceviche was SO DELICIOUS. This was my favorite dish from the restaurant. Plantain chips were perfectly crisp and, to our surprise, went well with the ceviche. The taqueños were good, almost like an upgraded adult version of pizza rolls with the filling center. Boyfriend said the beef heart and oysters were good. There is no sign of our waiter to check up on anything at this point.
My boyfriend's paella then arrives. Only his entree arrives. Mines is nowhere to be seen. Remember when I said we ordered everything right when we arrived? I'm confused about why my entree, the pasta, didn't arrive too since it was also ordered more than thirty minutes ago. Not to mention, it looks super bad when only one person's entree arrives. I was hopeful that it was only a few minutes behind, but nope. It arrived about fifteen minutes later. Boyfriend's paella got cold since he waited for me to get my food. The server and a few other workers came to check in on us because we're visibly annoyed at this point. Eventually, my pasta arrives, and at least it's creamy and tastes good. Our server then checked in on us for the second time. At this point, we've finished up all of our water, and I drank my chicha morada. She asked if I wanted more of the chicha morada, but I declined. We're not given a water refill. Additionally, my boyfriend was wondering what the beef heart was seasoned with. When our server checked in on us the second time, my boyfriend asked her. She said salt and pepper only. There's no way that's entirely accurate. The beef heart has some reddish-brown sauce slathered over it that was also staining the napkin he was using when he wiped his mouth with it. It's a shame that the server can't admit that she didn't know and tried to at least go and find out. Not to mention, this is unprofessional as someone who actually works there and plain dangerous that she doesn't know what the dish is made with.
We finish most of our food and are finally ready for our check. We wanted dessert, but we didn't see a dessert menu online, and it wasn't on the menu we got when we first arrived, so we figured they didn't have any. Our server arrives ready to take our payment with a dessert menu in hand that she didn't even tell us about while standing there with us. We asked to see the menu, figuring it was probably a dessert menu, but then decided against ordering dessert. We're over it at this point and fed up with the service. We pay and leave.
It's a bummer that the service wasn't great. Having a server that wasn't friendly and waiting for my entree that should've never arrived fifteen minutes late despite the other entree being ready. Maybe because I'm from the Napa Valley, I have higher expectations, but then again, I get better service at McDonald's.
