"Forming part of Regent’s Park, Primrose Hill deserves a separate mention due to its outstanding scenery. Located at the northern end of the park, across from Prince Lambert Road, the hill is one of London’s protected viewing points due to its panoramic vistas of the city’s skyline. Of course, like most of London’s parks, Primrose Hill has an interesting history that places it at the forefront of significant duels and battles. Shakespeare’s Tree is a single tree that stands toward the bottom of the hill, planted in 1864 to commemorate William Shakespeare’s 300th birthday." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"People all around London flock to Primrose Hill for the breathtaking 360 degree view. On summer days the hill is covered in picnickers taking in the sun. On winter days, there's always a dog walker or two, and when it snows, this is a prime sledding park."

Yelp
I don't know how anyone could have anything negative to say about Primrose Hill. Perhaps I'm biased as it's the closest park to me (Hampstead Heath being the second) but I just find it so idyllic. On a warm day you'll find many people having picnics, walking their dogs, or just enjoying the view. There are also many cafes and shops within walking distance, so if you find you want something to eat you can easily get to a cafe in 10-15 minutes walking. I personally recommend Lemonia or Alma for a nice lunch. Overall I think Primrose Hill is magical and I will spend every possible second of free time I have there

Briana N.

Yelp
An amazing spot for a picnic or even to just watch the sun rise or set. Being on the hill gives you an amazing view of the city skyline and it's just so beautiful!

Yelp
Before gnawing on turkey legs and slabs of rare prime rib, Henry VIII used this patch of greenery as his hunting grounds presumably while his six wives looked on with royal comportment. The only thing that has lasted through the last six centuries is the patch of greenery which Jamie W. and I trodded upon after walking along the Regent's Canal. It was a swelteringly hot day in London except for one slight breeze we felt once we made it to the top of the hill summit. From there, you get quite the unexpected views of central London. A crowd did gather but nothing like the masses that swarm the Sky Garden or the Shard. I suggest offering to take photos of people in front of the view in order for them to reciprocate in kind. Most were very accommodating, and for those few who demur and refused to take your picture, there's a special place in hell for them where they're constantly blinded by flash bulbs. The walk down the hill was also lovely as you see civilized people doing civilized things like having a white tablecloth picnic or creating a landscape painting under a leafy tree suitable for a mid-priced motel. We just crossed Prince Albert Road to walk through Regent's Park, one of the city's more splendorous parks. RELATED - Exploring London? Yelp
Walked up here last night when it was absolutely freezing cold and windy but well worth it! The walk uphill is challenging in the cold and wind but when you get to the top and look back at the skyline of. London you will feel refreshed. The view of the city from here is nothing short of spectacular! The nightlights add to the beautiful vista! I highly recommend checking this out and one crucial tip would be do not look back until you reach the top of the hill.

Demi A.

Yelp
A beautiful view of London. It was absolutely breath taking in person. If you are in the city, this is a must visit. I went on my last day and was wishing I had made plans to hang here and have a picnic because the sunset was amazing.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Highly recommend visiting Primrose Hill while in London, especially if the weather is nice. Not only is it a nice place to take a stroll in the park, the views are spectacular. Depending on where you're coming from, the hill can be a little bit of a climb (not super difficult), but it's so worth it when you reach the top. There's plenty of seating and it's a great place to people watch. When we went, not only were there dogs galore, but there were several bands playing music and lots of peeps doing impromptu photoshoots, all while the sun set in front of us. Someone told me the weekends are crazy with people, but if you're free mid-week and looking to get some nice outdoors time, you should spend some time here, especially if you want that city view!

Lera F.

Yelp
I came here once on a trip to check out London before moving here, and need to come back!! At the top of the hill, there are amazing faraway views of the London city and all the tallest buildings of the skyline. The little park itself has green grass and is criss-crossed with a couple paths that are nice to walk on :) Also London is quite flat in general so this Primrose *Hill* park is a nice change from that! ;)

Yelp
This area is really great for all those of you who want to work out in the open air. There's 16 different stations on this "trim trail" and believe me - once you're through with them, you literally fell like a different person...especially the next day, when all of your muscles start acting up! There's loads of fit people working out here - some accompanied by their personal trainers, some in small groups and some even by themselves. But everyone here seems to be on the same mission: to get fit. (Speaking of personal trainers, you may want to do some research for personal trainers who use this as part of their workout territory - Tim Hayes Personal Training comes to mind.) The biggest perk of this trim trail - however - is the beautiful view on beautiful bodies: I mean, who doesn't like to watch a Tom Cruise look-alike do pull-ups...especially when the shirt's off ;-) (The training area is situated behind the hedge next to the public toilets and across the road from the London Zoo bird avery.)

Cam H.

Yelp
These houses in Primrose Hill are colorful and beautiful. Chalcot Square and Chalcot Crescent are where you'll find the famous rainbow houses (this will save you a few minutes walking around). It is a very quiet and residential area but a great spot for photos!

Ruth V.

Yelp
I love Primrose Hill! Lovely park with great views of London any time of the day or the year. Great place to have a picnic in summer when the weather is nice. It is worth a visit if you are around Regent's Park or Hampstead. It is a pretty area with lots of cafes and coloured buildings!

Tracy K.

Yelp
While in town last week, a friend took us to Primrose Hill to partake in Guy Fawkes Night activities. It was a little chilly and rainy, but a surprising number of people turned out, and we all had a good view of the area fireworks. Despite the fact that fireworks are illegal in the park, a few people were also lighting off some of their own. I'm sure this park is lovely during the day time, and especially during warmer months.

Henri R.

Yelp
I love this place. It's got one of the best free views of London in the morning as the sun is rising behind the skyline. It's also one of the best places to view the NYE fireworks for free. It does get a little crowded so beware. In the summertime the park can get a little crowded with people enjoying the sun. It's very near London Zoo and Camden Town.

Laurence T.

Yelp
Definitely one of my most favorite places to visit when visiting London. The views from here are spectacular. The local area is beautiful too, with lots of small restaurants and cafes around.

Leon C.

Yelp
Unbeknown to me Primrose Hill is not only my favourite spot for a picnic in my beloved north London, it is also a cracking spot for celebrating new years eve. As 12 o'clock came and went, Primrose Hill was packed with revellers enjoying the embankment fireworks due to the height advantage. Tons of lanterns were set off, along with a few fireworks of our own, not to mention the festive drink and cheer that was bandied around a plenty. Without question the thousands of people who were there certainly had a fantastic time.

Esther K.

Yelp
The first time I saw Primrose Hill was when I was child watching the film 101 Dalmatians. I still remember the scene in my head but at the time I hadn't realized that drawing was based on a real location out in London. Fast forward some decades later and this time I'm in the exact same spot standing on the hill and gazing at London landmarks from a distance. It was lovely. It was pretty quiet on the day we went however I imagine it's busier during the warmer months with picnic-ers, joggers, dog walkers, bikers, what have you. Lovely park, lovely dogs/people, lovely neighborhood. I'm definitely returning.

Catherine H.

Yelp
If you are getting a bit tired of the busier nearby Regent's Park, why not venture to this more quiet park usually frequented by regulars and locals. This is a lovely park located in a very posh part of Camden, which also happens to have a literal hill. If you reach the top of the hill you will be treated by a very beautiful view of London which is always worth the short trek up there. This really is the ideal location to come down for a picnic and some frisbie fun on a sunny afternoon, before hitting the local alternative Camden pubs.

Joseph T.

Yelp
Primrose Hill is a very pretty little park just North West of Regent's Park. As Catherine mentioned in her review, it is ideal when Regent's Park seems a little too much like a thoroughfare. Also, unlike many other London parks, there aren't really any activities, tennis courts, that sort of thing, which is suits the place's pleasant relaxed nature. The hill itself is hardly substantial with, though because London is so flat it is high enough that you can see out across the town beyond the City. These views combined with the general feel of the place make it ideal for picnics, or lolling about with friends.

Chantelle T.

Yelp
It seems quite underwhelming from the base of the hill, my first impression was 'oh so that's it?' It's very easy to hike and surprisingly, has lovely views of the London skyline. It's a nice little surprise and worth stopping to see if you're in the area or walking through the Regents Park.

Oskar B.

Yelp
Beautiful views of London. Reminds me (in that regard only) of Dolores park in San Francisco.

Qype User (kristi…)

Yelp
Ahhhhhhh, my favourite park! Set against the backdrop of candy-coloured rich-folk houses, this park is one of the best. It has both flat playing fields at the top side and a gently sloping hill that offers one of the best views in London - across the city including the London eye, canary wharf and Houses of Parliament. The toilet block is in good nick, there's an encloses playground for little-uns and you're practically guaranteed a good celeb spot. AND, when you run out of booze, you totter along Primrose Hill high street and there's a Nicholas wine shop waiting to serve you a cold bottle of rosé or two. Many a great summers afternoon has been wasted here.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Primrose hill is one of my favourite places in London. It's connected to Regent's Park, you just have to cross a street. It's a little quiet and beautiful oasis near Camden, with a sweet high street connected full of adorable shops and delicious restaurants. The hill is steep and special because you can see all of london from the top. It's a wonderful place to go always. It's not gated, and there are lights at night.

Kenny C.

Yelp
If you have the time to walk up the hill, it's totally worth it. I had no idea how cool the view would be and was in the area, so decided to do the "hike". It's not too strenuous of a walk, and the views from the top are amazing. You can see the Shard, the Eye, Big Ben, and basically the entire London skyline.

Laura N.

Yelp
Sure you might huff and puff on the way up, but the thing that will really take your breath away is the view from the top. With a sunset to your back and an incredible view gently laid out in front of you, this is one of those quiet sacred spots that make you realize just how much you love living in the mayhem that is London. Take a camera, take a picnic, take a book, take a partner, or just take your time and enjoy. It's like a veritable "reset" button. (I recommend pushing it a few times before taking out the entire game in an angry frenzy and giving it a full gusted blow.)

Matt B.

Yelp
In my opinion the view from Primrose Hill is the best in London, with every major landmark visible on a clear day. It is also good for New Years Eve, as all the fireworks on the Embankment are visible without the hassle on being in the crowds on the Embankment.

Vivienne L.

Yelp
I like to walk and jog a little around this park... that is if the weather if good outside. It's usually a little gloomy and sometimes it drizzles but I always come out after the sun comes out. It smells so good outside after a little rain and I love being able to people watch, but most of all I love being able to see all the happy dogs run around catching frisbees in the air. I love London, and whenever I come here I feel at home.

Corinna H.

Yelp
Ok, so I may be a die-hard fan of Hampstead Heath, but I come to Primrose Hill to watch the sun go down. One of London's orangey, pink, and blue pollution endued palates of swirling clouds (the closest you're going to get to a perfect sunset down here) is best watched from this spot. Close to the film-set-pretty streets of Notting Hill it's a very picturesque area, with whitewashed houses and picture-perfect gardens winding away from the hill itself. It's not as grand as Parliament Hill, but the sweetness of its nature draws in the old romantics to view dusk settle before heading onto one of the chic eateries in the area. Primrose Hill is possibly one of the most perfect settings to begin an evening if you're in the area (guys take note!) as it's simply gorgeous.

Mei S.

Yelp
On a clear day, you can see the whole of London, from London Zoo, Post Office Tower, Centre Point, London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, "the Gherkin" to the Shard and Canary Wharf in the East. A fab park too with a children's playground at the bottom of the hill and across from Regent's Park and London Zoo. Also a great place to catch the New Year's Eve fireworks, if unable to get a ticket to the fireworks in Central London.

Alex S.

Yelp
Sometimes you need a break from the hustle-bustle. Sometimes your lungs scream out: "fresh air, you haz? THXKBAI". When that happens...consider Primrose Hill. It's a park. Beautiful at all times of the year, the city views from here are stunner. Go at sunset or - for the truly bold - go for sunrise. People are out there instagramming *without using a filter*; it's just that naturally beautiful. Green, lush, but also small enough as a park that I don't get turned around and disoriented (sorry, Hyde Park). Good transportation options around the perimeter. Grab a coffee, friend, book, blanket, camera, fave tunes (essentially: some of your favourite things) and make it better by heading to the Hill. Trust. Yelp note: a dangerous place for dog-envy...I wanted to fill my pockets with liver treats and Pied Piper-style lead ALL THE DOGS ON PRIMROSE HILL HOME WITH ME

Yinnie C.

Yelp
Waaaay overdue post on primrose hill. I ventured a few times last summer and it was wonderful, didn't see any celebrities sunbathing away. (I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE DAILY MAIL GOT ALL THOSE PICTURES OF CELEBS FROLICKING?!) I see none. (or maybe I'm just out of touch with the celebrity world?) The scenery is amazing, as you can look towards the south of the river, much like Greenwich Park's similar view from the south looking towards the north. It's a great view to take in on a summer's evening. But haven't been brave enough to venture that far in the winter! LOL

Anna Z.

Yelp
Primrose hill is a wonderful place to enjoy the rarely wonderful weather of London. I went this year for an early afternoon stroll at the end of October, and it was beautiful. There were people jogging, having picnics in the grass, walking/playing with their dogs, families walking about and enjoying the views. The leaves were changing which was a sight to see, as well as a wonderful view of the city. Definitely not a sight to be missed, for a local or a tourist! Enjoy :)

Peter B.

Yelp
Great place to see beautiful views of the London skyline. Enjoy a walk through Regents Park, enjoy a picnic, or just relax away from the city. This is located in a very cute neighborhood. My little brother loved Primrose Hill so much he proposed to his wife here. Check it out for yourself.

Agi K.

Yelp
Ahh Primrose Hill - I remember the days when I could strap on my roller-skates (skates children not blades) and fly uncontrollably down the main path...screaming like a banshee as my dog tried desperately to keep up with me and bizarrely not hitting anyone (despite trying) or anything - (well other than the large tree place neatly in my path and that was just the once). Nowadays - this place - or so it seems to me - is heaving with people. If I was single or indeed if I owned a long enough raincoat I would just come here on weekends to perv...soak up the atmosphere of all the beautiful people. Yes believe it or not you - yes you in that bikini thing over there - are beautiful a person. All inferences aside this is a great park to picnic in during sunny times for all the family and for all you indie/hippy types out there (take a bath!!!) who have like 30 friends who turn up matching Pete Doherty Trilby hat ('cos their cool). Kids playground is revamped. So by the time the sun hits - hey wait it has just hit - the kids should have lots of fun. There was an outdoor gym area for the jocks but this was recently under redevelopment. I confess I don't know if it is still being used for the same purpose. In any event this place does have a good atmosphere - and given a choice between sitting here or the much larger and less crowded Regents Park - I would and do go here....after all I am a beautiful person...oh god i didn't just say that - pass me a bucket.

Sarah O.

Yelp
Allow me to tell you how much I love Primrose Hill. I love Primrose Hill SO much that my friends and I kept Picnic-ing while it was pouring down rain. I love Primrose so much that I try to hold my bladder as long as possible so I don't have to leave the park to use the loo. I love Primrose so much that I don't mind the children running around (AS long as they're properly supervised/on a leash/don't TOUCH me)...Clearly, I love Primrose. Primrose Hill is my ultimate little park, next to Regent's, which means you can always hop over there for more action if necessary but really? the chill attitude of the park speaks volumes: it's well known but only really touristy at the top of the hill. There are loads of trees on one side of the hill and there is a particular one that is low enough to the ground and dense enough that you can actually sit under it when it's raining and stay completely dry (hence the picnic in the rain...but dry). I do occasionally go jogging here when it's warm and the hill is MURDER! but in a good way. Just make sure you dodge out of the pictures when you make it to the top of the hill....or make funny faces like you're puking. Might as well have some fun if you're going to be in pictures near Dame Judi's Bench. and you know she'd agree because she's cool like that. There's also a fantastic wine shop down the road that's extremely helpful (must figure out what the name of it is and yelp it) and will give you great deals when you tell them you're on a picnic. I can't express my love for this park with any more words so I'll just say... That'll do, Pig, That'll do.

Sinan O.

Yelp
Primrose Hill provides Londoners with one of the best view of London. The walk up a steep hill is more than rewarded. You are given a panoramic view from east to west and at the top there is a plaque giving a description of what you are looking at. The view is fantastic. The gates stay open all night so during the summer nights, there could be people there anytime, it is definitely a romantic spot. On Fireworks night, the puts on a great display, I have been a few times and the view with fireworks going off throughout London, along with the amazing display that the park provides, I don't think you can find a better place. The only problem is parking, so if on the next 5th of November you plan on going to Primrose Hill, get there early.

John O.

Yelp
Should not be missed whether you are a local or tourist. Best time to visit is late afternoon for sunset, but also a gem early morning for a jog or nice walk. Also a great playground for kids and steps from the London Zoo! Enjoy!

cailen s.

Yelp
This is a beautiful park with some of the most scenic views of London you can possibly find. It's located in a posh neighbourhood and you just may catch sight of a celebrity or two here. It's well worth the walk up the hill to get a south facing view of London. Then you just walk down into the Camden market. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon.

Justine L.

Yelp
Great park for views of the city, fresh air, and exercise. We came in hopes to take pics of the city at sunrise, but the view goes against the sun. I'd try for sunset if you're looking to take photos. In general, very nice park filled with people working out and walking dogs.

Ashley V.

Yelp
Huge park. Get up that hill, don't look back til you've reached the top, and enjoy the purty view. Lovely park, hill with a nice view of the city...makes me wish I had a dog to walk.

Thomas A.

Yelp
So here I am... walking Primrose.. I can't be the only person that gets Girls Aloud embedded in their heads when visiting this park, but I'm not ashamed of my appreciation for GA or Primrose, so I'll openly admit to both. For a while, this became my 'running' park, and has a good loop around the perimeter as well as the epic hill in the middle if you're ever feeling ambitious, though be careful that you don't look like you're about to collapse when you reach the top cause you'll be in a bunch of tourist's photos looking like a mess. The top of the hill provides a great view of London, if you have a panoramic setting on your camera, now might be the time to figure out how to use it. They film movies & tv shows up here now and then, so if you're a cinema buff, try to think of all the scenes involve the benches (like Judi Dench in Notes on a Scandal). If you're after a great place to laze around in the sun with friends or just escape the city and read the papers, Primrose is one of my favorite spots.

Yvonne D.

Yelp
This is a really lovely park! I'm glad the hotel staff recommended us to walk here. It was much closer to use than Regents. It's an easy stroll and very spacious. I felt very relaxed here. I think we were a bit oversold on the "best view of the downtown skyline" but nevertheless it was pretty nice. Typical London fog covered up some of the view but we got the jist of it.

Zara L.

Yelp
As you wheeze on the walk up the hill, you may spot written on the path "The view is so nice". The words can still can be made out although now rather worn and faded. These are lyrics taken from Blur's "For Tomorrow" and despite modern life being 'rubbish', once you are up the hill the panorama will take you away and make you forget temporarily about your woes. I have spent many a nostalgic sunny lazy day picnicking here with friends and in more recent times my boyfriend has forced me to go running up the hill. Yesterday was the first time in while I was struck with how lucky I actually am to live near somewhere so special and scenic. The sun finally out after a heavy afternoon of rainfall, the hill was much quieter than usual. We stretched out on the grass and basked in the warmth with the whole of London spread out before us. Serene, peaceful and romantic - a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

Corinna S.

Yelp
What a great view! And the best thing is: It's free! Just go up the Hill in the middle of Primrose Hill Park, which is right next to Regent's Park, and enjoy the great view over London. Not far away, in Regent's Park Rd, you can relax in a little cafe or restaurant and enjoy life in London.

Qype User (MissCa…)

Yelp
Primrose Hill is the best park in London - if not the world. When you're walking to the summit of the hill, you see that someone has rather charmingly painted the sentence 'But the view's so nice...' in white paint on the pavement. I'm not entirely sure if this is a reference to 'For Tomorrow' by Blur, but I'd really like to believe that it is. If you've got the right amount of lower body strength, do be sure to walk all the way to the top so you can stand and look out at all of London laid out below you like a glorious patchwork quilt of possibilities. Back when I lived in Camden, my favourite thing to do after a big night out was to come here at 5am in the morning and watch the dawn break over North London. Even better, because it's not that far away from London Zoo, you'll hear all the tropical birds greeting the sun with a glorious dawn chorus of hooting and hollering. If you're not such an early riser, it's still a great place for picnics, lovers trysts and impromtu games of 5-a-side football. Even better, if you hang about for long enough, you might even get to see some of those Primrose Hill set swinger type people that the News of the World are always so fond of writing about.

Qype User (daniel…)

Yelp
Primose Hill (including Regents Park) is a part of a cluster of parks underneath the Royal Parks. Right next to Regents Park, Chalk Farm (on the Northern Line) or Regent Park (on the Bakerloo line) are the nearest London Underground stations. Primose Hill eclipses the other London parks, if stunning views float your boat. From the top of Primose Rose hill you can literally take in some of the most beautiful views of central London and beyond (depending upon which way you look and this isn't an exaggeration). Primose Hill is a perfect location for for sprawling out on a checked blanket, with a picnic basket and a couple of bottles of LPR (Lauren Perrier Rose) on a beautiful summer's day (or night). There are also serveral great pubs and restaurants bordering the park providing an escape route when it gets a bit chilly (we are in England, you know...).

Chloe M.

Yelp
Primrose hill is such a pretty, relaxing site. My boyfriend took me when we first started dating, we went to fly a kite and watch the sunset. It was lovely, you can see a lot of London, lots of fun to try and name the different buildings and areas. The park was quite busy, the people were also friendly, lots of children playing and dog walkers and some others sitting with their blankets too. After sunset, the lights in the park came on. This was nice because they weren't too bright, but calming and went well with the atmosphere.

Liam N.

Yelp
A must-see for anyone visiting London. A serene piece of land with outstanding views of the bustling city- it really is it's own little world.

Robin S.

Yelp
Not sure how I ended up here but my buddy Tom said it was the place to picnic. We had food from a local grocery/department store (very odd) and then brought a bottle here. It was chilled. The sun was shining but it felt a bit over-rated. Londoners seem to be freaking excited by the weather. Lots of skin. I guess I should feel lucky, but really I just want more food options!

Chloe M.

Yelp
Even on a cloudy day the park was busy and full of dogs (yay!). It has a really nice atmosphere and I could imagine it being a perfect location for a summer picnic. The view of the park with the London skyline in the background is cool although it's actually quite difficult to capture it well on camera. The actual park itself isn't that pretty but I guess it's the views that make it. The surrounding area of London is really pretty and there's lots of lovely cafes and pastel coloured buildings.

Samantha M.

Yelp
One of the best things to do on a warm sunny evening in London is grab a picnic or some fish and chips and head up to Primrose Hill for the most spectacular views out over London. Watching the sun set from up on this hill is pretty close to perfect!
