"Changing of the Guard Every day at noon at the Plaza de Armas (also called Plaza Mayor), trumpets blare, drums pound, and cymbals crash as the guard changes outside the presidential palace. Enjoy the Spanish fanfare like a local: from a plaza bench with an ice cream cone. The Plaza is also the site of festivals, concerts, and the much-loved annual National Pisco Day when the fountain spouts free high-proof grape brandy for all."

Must Visit in Lima! We happened to be there on a Sunday and there was a cultural parade happening! The parade was so long and nice to see the cultural dance side of Peru! We also saw the change of guards (wasn’t so exciting)! But overall, a very exciting place and it’s a must visit!

Lovely main square of Lima, this time was all closed due new government measurements. Looks more organised from time to time you can go in and take photos. I love the Spanish influence architecture especially the wooden balconies and the government palace. I advise to come day light and wait for the artificial light to do the magical work. Photos are just breath taken.

Historical site... big space surrounded of palaces and the cathedral. Colonial architecture. Surrounded by bookstores, restaurants, and looots of people offering tours.

I was entranced by this public art project. After the Spanish conquered and colonized Peru and moved into Lima, the women started a fashion trend of wearing long silk dresses and headscarves that covered everything except one eye. Nobody is entirely sure how the trend began, but there is speculation that it was connected to the Muslim influences in Spain. I wonder how they managed with limited depth perception and all those skirts!?

Photos taken Dec 21st, so the plaza was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. Try to take a seat somewhere and enjoy the beauty, especially at night with all the lights.

Lima’s plaza is more impressive than most squares in Europe. The night view of the cathedral and the Presidential Palace is stunning, and the large plaza is lively with many people. Definitely visit at night!
