"Bring on the Dancing Horses Descended from horses brought over in the 16th century by Spanish conquistadors, hundreds of wild horses rule the little island of Vieques. The horses, an attraction in their own right, dot the landscape wherever you go. With every encounter, I couldn't help but slow down and admire their beauty. They are naturally intelligent and curious, so don't be surprised if they approach you or your vehicle looking for little treats. For a guaranteed encounter, look no further than Sun Bay—where I snapped this picture. Here, they graze, take frequent sand baths, and (if you're lucky) cool their hooves in the blue waters of the Caribbean. By Sabin Ousey"

This is one of the island’s popular beaches. There’s a $4 per car entry fee, but plenty of parking is available. You’ll often see horses roaming around the lot, which is a unique touch. The beach itself is beautiful, with clear, warm water and a public bathroom area for convenience.

Lovely beach, very popular with locals and very crowded on the weekends. The crowds and the seaweed at the shore and a few little rocks and stones add up to my rating of 4 instead of 5. This is not my favorite beach in the area even though this beach has more facilities. Probably much better for families. I prefer my beaches to be a little more secluded, and I don’t mind not having facilities and will trade that for seclusion.

My favorite GOTO beach in Vieques. The only beach to charge a four dollar fee (per car) to get in but well worth it! Easy to get to and you park your car right on the left side of the road .... The beach area is only a few feet away. Lots of palm trees and other trees that provide shade. You are apt to see sea turtles swimming back and forth and I often spot small rays in the water. Tropical fish can often be spotted as well.

Went to Sun Bay today it was amazing wils horses were everywhere. The beach was accessable with our golf cart. The beach was white sand and very clean no seaweed. The water was flagged red but it was beautiful blue and turquoise - beautiful.

It's definitely a must-see on the island. We took the dirt path to a more secluded area. At night, we saw fireflies, so unexpected. Great sunset, but lots and lots of bugs at dusk. It's such a beautiful beach. Rough road, but doable with a scooter.

An attractive beach. Few ppl were here when I came on Sunday with a little bit rain. Water from the ocean was clear and not cold in December. It has a good location 5min by cars away from restaurants. I saw several people driving their cars in the bay. I didn’t know whether the cars could be allowed to get in. But there were some dead logs, seaweeds, horses’ poop, and trash.

The middle of the beach has more rocks and shells. The west side has bigger waves but smooth sand. As it’s harder to get to (no cars), it’s more quiet. The east side has calmer water but definitely more people. The beach is long and the water color is nice. They have plenty of palm trees for shades.

The beautiful beaches just don’t stop coming on this island! This is a lovely stretch just outside of Esperanza, replete with families of horses, picturesque palm trees, and crystal waters. It can get busier but for good reason, and in not a disruptive way. Enjoy!!
