Discover a cozy neighborhood cafe and wine bar in Crown Heights that serves delightful pastries, natural wines, and espresso, perfect for sipping, mingling, or people-watching.
"In a crowded field of bars that specialize in natural wines, Daughter stands out for its laid-back, unpretentious atmosphere and relatively affordable bottles—they’re all $60, and all glasses are $13. If casual wine bars are your thing, note that this Crown Heights cafe is so casual that it actually has cement bleachers instead of regular tables and chairs inside. During the day, they sell coffee and pastries, but at night they serve unique small plates, and we especially like the cold roasted lamb with cucumbers and fresh horseradish, and the muffaletta-like mortadella sandwich on filone from bakery. If the Daft Punk-adjacent music and the Flintstones bleachers aren’t appealing, grab one of the many sidewalk tables set up under a big tree outside. " - Kenny Yang
"Adam Keita, a co-owner of daytime coffee shop Daughter, has been confronting that disparity over the last month from eastern Crown Heights, where roughly 49 percent of residents are partially vaccinated at the time of publishing. He’s been requiring customers who dine inside his coffee shop to show proof of vaccination since mid-August, when the mandate went into effect without enforcement." - Luke Fortney
"Pelah, a Bed-Stuy-based, Sierra Leonean baker, will be serving a menu of doubles, sweet plantain and pecan sticky buns (made from a recipe created by baker Paolo Velez), and other desserts at Daughter on Saturday, August 28th from 12-5pm. All of the proceeds benefit the non-profit organization, Zanmi Lasante, who is collecting funds to provide emergency relief aid in Haiti after the country’s recent earthquake. Check out the menu on Pelah’s Instagram page here." - Hannah Albertine
"Daughter is hosting a Latte Art Throwdown this Friday, June 18th from 5-11pm as a special fundraiser for Heart of Dinner and For The Gworls. If you want to participate in this friendly competition, DM the coffee shop on Instagram and be entered to win prizes for your latte art skills. Everyone else can still catch a panel discussion on inclusivity in the hospitality industry at 5pm, followed by food from the pop-up Decades Pizza, natural wines by Zev Rovine Selections, and beer from Threes Brewing." - Hannah Albertine, Nikko Duren
"Our fingers have been crossed for several months, hoping this Crown Heights all-day cafe and wine bar would finally announce its opening. The time has come. Daughter is hosting an opening party this Saturday, April 24th and Sunday, April 25th from 8am-8pm with a special pop-up menu from Chef Alix Ferguson, and ice cream projects Cold Moon and Bad Habit. In addition to breakfast and lunch options like an egg and cheese and a chickpea salad sandwich, you’ll be able to pick up a couple of grilled skewers, spring salads, and some bigger mains like a braised short rib with guajillo pepper and honey, and a harissa chicken sandwich." - Hannah Albertine
