"Mama Dung started out in the northern city of Nam Dinh in 1986, armed with her grandmother's recipe for a light, clean, pure broth. Now, in this shop, diners choose between a three-day beef-bone stock or chicken broth; stand-out dishes include the phở bắp hoa, featuring crunchy medium-rare beef, and Mama Dung's gà tôm mắm sốt (crispy fried chicken). There is also phở tine – a creative Western-style take on phở, served with golden French fries, beef noodle soup and cheese." - Michelin Inspector

Nice pho spot that got a Michelin nod. Their fried chicken is quite good & their home made hot sauce is amazing. Not a huge fan of their pho-tine (Viet-Canadian) dish but it’s a novelty. The owner Mama Dung is so nice.

Amazing good, service and everything!! Place is clean and organised. Pho done right, and photine (poutine made with pho soup!) is definitely a must try. Chau was our server, he spoke fluent english, amazing service and even the owner Mdm Tung came out to give us yummy sponge cake! Love this place wayyy more than the typical tourist spots which we tried

I discovered this place in the Michelin Guide and visited twice during my stay in Saigon. I tried Pho Ga and Hanoi Style Pho and both were very delicious, but the Hanoi Pho stood out more to me! Both broths were flavourful but light at the same time and I like that they have different portion sizes. I also liked their homemade Kombucha. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, especially compared to other Michelin Guide Pho places I visited. The Restaurant is family owned and all the staff is very friendly! They have service tea and you don’t feel rushed while eating there. Because of this I would chose this place over other Pho restaurants.

A small local restaurant which is doing a good job competing against some much bigger and more established food chains around the city. The location of Pho Chao is really quaint, located in a quiet and low key part of Saigon, away from the hectic bustle of the city center, but close enough to reach in a 10 min cab ride from D1. The pho is really good, fresh, clean broth with some good cuts of meat and some subtle spiced flavours. The condiments were also all represented: hot chilli sauce, satay chilli, pickled garlic, fresh lime, fresh chilli, herbs. It is always a sign of quality when the condiments of a pho restaurant are on point. The menu also has a few surprise items such as, fried chicken, fried rice and “pho-tine”. I tried the Pho-Tine, basically: crispy fries with cheese, beef cuts, shredded carrots and sticky beef stock. The dish was very creative, always good to try fusion food, the fries were tasty. Overall, a solid local restaurant punching way above its weight, but is finding its feet in Saigon and is becoming a bit of a celebrity among the ex-pat community. Worth a visit.

Mama Dung started out in the northern city of Nam Dinh in 1986 armed with her grandmother's recipe for a light, clean and pure broth. Fast forward nearly 40 years and she has established herself amongst the elite as a pure genius in phở-novation with her small but powerful menu of signature dishes. I can confirm that the phởtine is a must try! Not poutine and not pho but a combination of the two, golden french fries are topped with melted cheese curds, carrots, cilantro, onions and a phở gravy that is moorish. The side serving of beef broth for dipping brings this dish to another level and together is nothing short of outstanding! The miến lươn niệu is rich and full of incredible flavour and the cơm rang dưa bò surpassed basic fried rice with beef expectations. But what surprised me was Mama Dung's own gà tắm mắm sốt that was unforgettable.. The fried chicken had a perfect crunchy and crisp skin with a juicy and tender centre and flavoured in a sweet and sour caramelised fish sauce that sets it apart in the world of VFC! With a bib gourmand under her belt two years in a row for good quality and good value cooking, one needs to include incredible hospitality too! Mama Dung is a queen of phở but she remains humble and genuine in her love for feeding the people - Vietnamese or Westerner, you are welcomed with a smile, fed like you're family and parted with a hug and for that she is phở-nomenal!

Nice and clean eatery with friendly service from an English speaking staff. In addition to delicious selections of Pho noodles which take a central stage, other dishes like fried chicken and french fries with stewed beef, cheese, and gravy are not to be missed.

Came here for dinner with my partner and enjoyed it very much. Great service, the guy who served us spoke amazing English and he was so funny. My partner originally ordered the beef noodle dish but they were out so we both ended up getting the pho bo nam. He got a large and I got a small - our server said the difference was really just in the amount of meat. Broth had such good flavor, beef was good. We both also ordered tra tac and it was soooooooo good. I love tra tac and this is definitely one of the better ones I’ve had - not too sweet. 50k for my small pho, 70k for the large, and 15k each for the tea. On a previous visit my partner tried the pho-tine and really liked it. Good take on poutine fries. I haven’t tried it but I will be back to try again another time.

Excellent food - nice and tasty!! Great service from Chau who explained all the sauces and condiments and made recommendations on the menu. On a cool dark side street full of activity. So good we came back again the next day - the beef stew was amazing thank you Chau!
