"The curved balconies of this Bauhaus landmark overlook the lively café scene on Agia Irini Square, named after the domed church that anchors the piazza. Inside, it’s a paean to the 1930s—all moody black marble, grey terrazzo floors, and tubular bronze lighting—with dusky-pink sofas, sage-green throws, and a dash of modern art to keep things fresh. Guests have free access to yoga, meditation, and martial arts classes at the deeply calming Zen Centre on the first floor. Detox with sliders and a spritz at the all-day restaurant downstairs, a prime perch for people-watching. With a savvy concierge to help navigate the surrounding bars, markets, and galleries, and the Acropolis just overhead, this is a smart base for exploring both ancient and modern Athens. Address: Perianth Hotel, Limpona 2, Monastiraki" - Rachel Howard

"The 1930s building that the Perianth Hotel calls home is a true modernist landmark, and its owners have sought to preserve its unique aesthetic heritage, enlisting local architects K-Studio to create a “neo-Modernist” tribute to the era of the hotel’s construction. The décor is uniquely tailored to the hotel, in keeping with the optimistic spirit of early modernism." - Mark Fedeli

"Perianth opened its doors in summer 2018, creating a welcome design-led outpost in the buzzing heart of the city. Its 38 rooms and suites all have king-size beds and balconies – many with views of the Acropolis – plus terrazzo floors, marble side-tables and custom-made furniture. The Sgoumpopoulos family spared no expense when renovating the 1930s modernist structure, hiring Greek firm K-Studio to transform it into a sleek affair with unfinished concrete walls, brass detailing and calming shades of grey. Amenities include Athens’s Zen Center for yoga and meditation classes, Italian restaurant Il Baretto and meeting rooms. Furry friends are welcome to stay too."

We stayed at Perianth Hotel for five nights in January and had a great experience. The hotel is centrally located in Monastiraki, within walking distance of everything. There’s a lively plaza with terrace bars playing loud music until late, especially on weekends, but the double-glazed windows help reduce the noise. Weekdays are much quieter. The rooms are modern, with very comfortable beds and excellent shower pressure. The included breakfast was amazing, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely stay here again when we return to Athens!

Great hotel. The room was very big, as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. One round of drinks from the bar fridge was complimentary. Well positioned, easy to walk to sites around the city. There were many restaurants within close walking distance. The breakfast was amazing. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I booked a Superior Acropolis Room at Perianth Hotel, trusting the photos on their website showing a direct Acropolis view. Instead, we were placed in a room facing a wall. What followed was an appalling experience where we were repeatedly disrespected, dismissed, and treated as though we were the problem.||||Misleading Acropolis View:||When we raised the issue, staff first claimed the website photo was of a suite—not our room. After much insistence, they checked their own website and confirmed it was, in fact, the same room type we booked. Then came the absurd explanation: “You can see the Acropolis if you lean out sideways from the balcony.”||Disrespectful and Patronizing Behavior:||Rather than acknowledging the glaring difference between what they advertise and what they delivered, they condescendingly suggested that I "should have researched the room better." This was not only insulting but completely unprofessional. A hotel’s website is meant to provide clarity—not trick guests with clever wording or misleading pictures.||Unreasonable Solutions:||The manager—only reachable by phone—offered an “upgrade” to a suite for an additional €120 per night or a refund. Given it was 6 PM and we had elderly grandparents in two other rooms, relocating was impossible. Instead of resolving the issue with understanding and empathy, they treated us as if we were unreasonable for expecting the room we booked.||At every step, we were met with dishonesty, excuses, and an attempt to outsmart us. The staff’s patronizing tone and dismissive attitude turned what should have been a relaxing stay into one of the most frustrating and upsetting experiences of my life.||||To anyone considering this hotel: expect misleading descriptions and photos, and prepare to be treated with complete disrespect if you raise any concerns. There are far better places to stay in Athens where honesty and guest satisfaction matter.

This hotel is lovely. It's perfectly placed in the city, besides cool restaurants, and the staff was lovely! Our balcony had a view of Acropolis!! Zen, the masseuse realigned all my chakras with the 60 minute and my husband said he loved it too! The in room cleaning was top tier AND they provided wash cloths. I would happily stay again. Gladly.

Dishonest and Disrespectful – Worst Hotel Experience I booked a “Superior Acropolis Room” expecting the stunning views shown on their website (photo attached). Instead, we were given a room facing a wall (also attached). When we raised the issue, the staff claimed the photo was of a suite, only to backtrack after we forced them to check their website. The manager, unavailable for three days, was eventually reached by phone. His response? He argued that leaning out over the balcony to glimpse the Acropolis from the side counted as an “Acropolis view.” When we asked about the room in the website photo, they lied, claiming it faced the same wall, only to later admit it was on the opposite side of the hotel with a direct view of the Acropolis. Despite this, they refused to move us, insisting all such rooms were booked. The staff’s dismissive and dishonest behavior made this one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. They repeatedly tried to outsmart us with word games and lies. I strongly advise against staying here to avoid being treated with such blatant disrespect. The manager eventually offered to “solve” the issue by upgrading us to a suite for an extra €120 per night per room or refunding our money. Unfortunately, with two other rooms booked for elderly grandparents, moving all of us at 6 PM was impossible. We were left with no choice but to endure the lies and disrespect. This was not just disappointing—it was deeply disheartening. Dear Perianth Hotel Team, Thank you for your response below, though I find it deeply disappointing. While I appreciate your effort to explain, I must emphasize that your reply further highlights the dismissive and patronizing attitude we experienced during our stay. The issue was never about a misunderstanding of the room type description. It was about honesty, transparency, and how you handled our concerns. "Acropolis view," and refusal to acknowledge the disparity between the advertised photos and reality were incredibly frustrating. To then suggest I “should have spent more time researching the room” is both disrespectful and unprofessional. Guests trust a hotel’s website to accurately represent what they are paying for—this is not a failure on my part but on yours. Furthermore, when the manager offered an “upgrade” to a suite for €120 more per night, this felt less like a solution and more like an attempt to capitalize on our frustration. I stand by my experience and my review. Your unwillingness to acknowledge the legitimate concerns of a paying guest and your efforts to shift blame are truly disappointing. I hope this feedback encourages you to treat future guests with greater honesty and respect.

One of the best places we’ve ever stayed! You will never find better Customer Service anywhere, and the breakfast is amazing. The view of the Acropolis is spectacular. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Very nice staff, great breakfast options. You can either choose from the menu or get the whole buffet breakfast with plenty of choices. I loved the homemade cinamon walnut cake and energy bars made fresh daily at the hotel. It is also convenient for small groups, as we didn't stay at the hotel rooms but we had breakfast only. I can not rate the rooms, but the location, the facilities and shared breakfast space architecture is stunning and very aesthetically pleasing.

Visited the hotel for second time and it was amazing! Clean hotel, central location, spacious rooms and very polite staff. They even upgraded my room to junior suite without asking for it. Will be staying again and again for sure. Keep up the good work guys!
